ÂEducation should be a right, not a privilege – Bernie Sanders
They say that children are the true wealth
of a prosperous nation. In future, it is the children who will strengthen the society.
With a firm belief in this very ideology, and under the guidance of Mrs. Usha
Agarwal & Mr. Durgesh Agarwal, SSSK a charitable trust was found 8 years
ago. Ever since its inception, SSSK has been working tirelessly to help the
forgotten children by providing them the ability to become independent with a
strong education base.
THE EYEOPENER & INCEPTION:
Mrs. Usha Agarwal having dedicated 14 years
of her life to Global International School. Consequently, spent 3 years of
research on early childhood. All these years contributed immensely to shape her
knowledge about child learning and she learned that formative years play a crucial
role in laying a strong foundation in children.
Later, one of her visits to Ambaji was an
awakening call which made her realize the importance and significance of
education in both Rural and Urban parts of the country as she noticed how
children of the village battled for a future and self-esteem.
With an understanding that living a life of
privileges is not something everyone can fancy, and sometimes even the most
basic things like a chance to be educated and eating a fresh meal seems like a
challenge. This irony and stark discrimination between the privileged ones and
the forgotten few was what drove DA Group to start their journey & saw the
foundation of SSSK being laid.
What started with a small step of giving
these kids a chance to see the world from a height, soon turned into a passion
of giving these kids a more concrete way of scaling new heights. Mrs. Agarwal
who had a firm opinion about the importance of primary education decided to
help the kids by giving them a chance to learn.
Ever since then she has been trying to
create a pathway to transform these children into responsible individuals for
the developing nation by focusing on their education, healthcare and
empowerment.
It is the determination and unified effort
of Mrs. Usha Agarwal and Mr. Durgesh Agarwal that SSSK has today undertaken more
than 100 children and is providing them education.
AREAS OF WORK:
EDUCATION:
Education is both the means as well as the
end to a better life; means, because it empowers an individual to earn his/her
livelihood and the end because it increases one’s awareness on a range of
issues  from healthcare to appropriate social behavior to understanding one’s
rights, and in the process evolve as a better citizen.
SSSK is committed to provide primary and
secondary education to
underprivileged children along with remedial and bridge courses to
individuals who are under difficult circumstances. SSSK believes that whether
you are addressing healthcare, poverty, population control, unemployment or
human rights, there’s no better place to start than in the corridors of
education.
HEALTH AND HYGIENE:
He who has health has hope; and he who has
hope has everything” India has made rapid strides in the health sector
since independence. However, access to healthcare still remains a
challenge.
While people in rural areas suffer from
adverse health conditions owing to mainly two reasons Âfirst the lack of
education and thus lack of awareness; and second the unwillingness to lose a
dayÂs wage in order to reach the nearest medical facility.
SSSK has worked to provide quality healthcare services
at doorsteps, for the needy and has promoted health awareness and
contemporary healthcare seeking behavior among the underprivileged
that addresses problems of mobility, accessibility and availability of these primary
services with a special focus on children and women, there by
revolutionizing the health care system.
EMPOWERMENT & REHABILITATION:
SSSK has always aimed to strengthen women
by giving them identity as informal workers and providing them with a life of
dignity and making them independent by offering adequate training and skills to
work.
The Organization works towards the
realization of both individual and collective self-esteem and inner strength of
socially excluded women and adolescent girls through innovative community
practices while working to secure womenÂs identity and rights.
SSSK also addresses issues related to
domestic violence and crime against women and help them build self-help groups
to establish a sustainable livelihood.
FOOD & NUTRITION:
SSSK has designed interventions to reduce
hunger among communities by providing ration kits that ensure reliable meals to
children and adults.
The organization not only strives to
eliminate hunger but also aims to counter malnutrition.
WAY FORWARD:
With a mission to enable people and
encompass diverse segments while working in partnership to secure, protect and
honour the rights of Individuals SSSK will be coming up with a school &
Sports Centre that will not only accommodate 1000 children but also offer
vocational and skill development courses to the parents of these Children.
The Organizations approach is to create a wave of change in the lives of people by developing the potential of women and children in order to drive long lasting equitable changes by strategically promoting quality healthcare, inclusive education, gender equitable and sustainable livelihood opportunities.
