Bangladesh to construct a memorial for Indian soldiers

The India Saga |

In a rare gesture, Bangladesh will construct a monument in the memory of Indian soldiers martyred in the 1971 Liberation War against Pakistan, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the country’s independence.

Liberation War Affairs Minister of Bangladesh Mozammel Haque told Indian High Commissioner Riva Ganguly Das when she met him recently in Dhaka . In the liberation war of Bangladesh, 3900 Indian soldiers died and about 93,000 were wounded.

Bangladesh Minister  made the comments when outgoing Indian High Commisisoner Riva Ganguly Das paid him a farewell visit. “We are constructing the monument coinciding with the 50th anniversary of our independence” crucially backed by India, a Ministry spokesman quoted Mr Haque as saying. Earlier Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina honoured the Indian soldiers who were killed during the Bangladesh Liberation war in 1971.

The Minister recalled with gratitude the cooperation of Indian government and its people during the Liberation War. The Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka  said that Bangladesh and India were tested friends.”Some people are out to spread misleading information purposely to worsen the relations between the two next-door neighbours but the Bangladesh-India ties are not so fragile,” she said.

She requested the Minister for taking up initiatives for translating the books on the Liberation War in Hindi. She also expressed India’s willingness to become a part of the golden jubilee celebrations of Bangladesh’s independence in 2021. An official familiar with the monument project said the government has selected 3.5 acres of land at frontier Ashuganj of Brahmanbaia district bordering Agartala.

The site which has been selected has historic significance. “Indian Army fought Pakistanis some decisive wars in 1971 along with our freedom fighters in Ashuganj,” the official said.

He said the construction of the monument was expected to begin by this year and is expected to be completed in the next two years while its abstract architectural design was aimed to reflect the bonding between the two neighbours.

Mr Haque congratulated the outgoing Indian High Commissioner on her next posting as Secretary (East) in the External Affairs Ministry, saying the relations between the two nations will reach a different dimension during her tenure. Bangladesh earlier felicitated Indian soldiers and veterans and honoured the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and several other distinguished Indians for their role in 1971 Liberation War.

Bangladesh has National Martyr’s Memorial on the outskirts of Dhaka where ceremonial homage is paid to all 1971 martyrs. The war in 1971 began after the sudden crackdown at midnight on March 25 that year in erstwhile East Pakistan by Pakistani troops and ended on December 16 as Pakistan conceded defeat and unconditionally surrendered in Dhaka to the allied forces comprising Bengali freedom fighters and the Indian Army.

Mohd. Badar Concerned About Huge Losses, Job Insecurity In Event Industry

The India Saga Saga |

The Indian media & entertainment industry, which was worth Rs. 1.82 trillion in 2019 as per FICCI, is staring down the barrel at a loss of Rs. 25,000 crores, Rs. 3000 crores out of which already account for the industry losses during March-April 2020. The lockdown has affected the industry at multiple levels and it has concerned industry experts like Mohd Badar, founder-director of HBN Events Pvt. Ltd.  Expressing worry over this matter, he says, “While the movie business and event management has been put on a back foot, the OTT platforms have gained viewership and revenue both. With that, the stark socio-economic divisions within the country and the different needs of different industries have also come to fore.”

The most affected in the industry, just like elsewhere, are the migrant laborer’s and daily workers. Mohd Badar revealed that in an SOS signal to the Government of India, the Events and Entertainment Management Association has revealed that work has come to an absolute standstill in an industry employing over 60 million people. The association claims that 10 million of its staff has been directly affected and their livelihood is at risk for the near future as well, owing to COVID-19 pandemic. The Association claimed that the effect of Corona outbreak has been unprecedented because all the national as well as local events stood either postponed or cancelled. Experts suggest that the lockdown impact is going to last for months, if not years.

On one hand, shooting for movies has stopped altogether since March 2020, leaving daily wage earners high and dry with nothing but their savings to fall back upon. Even though various organizations like the Production Guild of India, TWICE, CINTAA and numerous superstars have stepped forwards to take care of these workers, the efforts are just not enough keeping in view the sheer volume of the industry.

In case of the event industry, besides the 10 million people employed directly, industry provides employment to more than 50 million people through its affiliate sectors like hospitality, tourism, advertising, food and beverages, etc. In view of the outright cancellations of public as well as private events, conferences, exhibitions, meetings, the lifeline is almost choked now. With the brakes put on everything, everywhere, the industry is not able to pay salaries, either.

Eventually  Mohd Badar says, “While other industries such as the real estate, hospitality, transport, manufacturing, etc have begun to write the new normal in whichever way possible, the events and entertainment industry is still trying to ascertain the losses and ensure that it can cross this threshold of Corona pandemic in one piece.”

Mohd. Badar is a name to reckon with in the field of event and entertainment management for the past 10 years through his association with corporate and private events. He can handle multiple projects simultaneously and take care of the minutest details. Through his ability to manage and motivate, he has been able to build a synchronized team of professionals who help him in his ventures. Badar’s outstanding skills and his team lend magic to a number of projects organized on different scales.

His humanitarian spirit is no less worthy of mentioning. His NGO, the Innovation Welfare Society, works to provide quality education for the children belonging to the poorer sections of the society. Through its multiple programs, his NGO also uplifts downtrodden women.

Besides, he remains very active on the social media too. He uses his Instagram handle, badar.emagination, to give his followers a glimpse into his happening personal and professional lives.

How European Nations are emerging as good allies for India

The India Saga Saga |

India and Europe have decades old strategic relations. Many European countries have been seen participating at various occasions like the Vibrant Gujarat fair to gain access to the growing Indian market or trade deals.

However, the COVID-19 pandemic has erupted tensions among various Nations. India and Europe are surrounded by interest-oriented neighbours like the US, China and Russia which are using this hard time as an opportunity and making efforts to reform and rebuild a strategy to overpower the Nations.

During the pandemic, the world has seen that China has a hostile behaviour towards various Nations including its closest neighbour India. Recently, it had several confrontation with India from border conflict to water and trade disputes. It also earned a global condemnation for its rigid policies. As per many reports, China is involved in gathering and misusing the crucial data through its apps. Recently, India also took a big decision and banned 59 Chinese applications following its violent clash at the LAC, leading to a great economic impact on Chinese companies like WeChat and TikTok.

In 1998, even the US tried to crash down on India by imposing hard economic sanctions that were laid in the middle of India’s efforts to become a more liberalised economy. On the other hand, European Nations have also faced several territorial and political disputes with Russia. However, Russia and China have always been backing each other. The two Nations also announced to pursue a “constructive partnership”. In 2001, they also signed a treaty of “friendship and cooperation”.

Recently, Russia refused to take a stand on the dispute between India and China but the EU backed India in the matter and also held a virtual EU-India summit. A few days back an agreement was renewed between India & the EU to diversify scientific and technological cooperation focused at fostering their collaboration in transport, e-mobility, clean energy, Health and similar sectors in the next five years.

The EU also released a blueprint for cooperation with India, declaring it as a geopolitical pillar in the multipolar Asia, crucial for maintaining the balance of power in the region. Paris and Brussels always insisted Europe to consider India as the best strategic partner.

Europe has also decisively stepped back from China’s policy designed completely on economic engagement to check Chinese influence domestically and internationally. Considering its recent moves, Europe can certainly prove to be the best and most useful partner in the long-run.

5G transformative tech, India should be careful of Chinese 5G, argues a new book

The India Saga |

A new book has cautioned about the precariousness of Internet which can prove  to be Achilles’Heel of India as the most of the telecom hardware is of Chinese origin and many Indian telecom companies are under massive Chinese debt.

It says that the decision on 5G, pending with the Indian government, is indeed an existential question – deciding the fate of its democracy and economic sovereignty, cautions “India Wakes – Post Coronavirus New World Order’’.

“In India, we see telecom as a money machine entangled with scams and schemes. Those who walked into free 4G are now being asked to pay. It is a zoo where one enters free of cost to see the lion, finds it out of the cage, and runs to the exit only to find a fee to get out safely. The Indian government never allowed BSNL to have 4G, thus making it obsolete and fit for closure. So, when the U.S. and China stake billions of dollars of trade over 5G, one in India wonders what the fuss is all about,’’ it says.

The authors — Bart S. Fisher,  noted U.S. attorney and international trade lawyer Bart S. Fisher and Arun Tiwari, Indian scientist and co-author of several books with former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam – argue that it is not commerce for which the U.S. has taken a tough stand against China on 5G – the fifth generation of mobile communication.

They say that it is the revolutionizing military potential of this technology, significant enough to make China a world power, challenging the United States. “Also, there is a lot of heartburn about the way China has stolen the best technology developed in the U.S. and is now offering it in the global market as a competitor. Let there be no doubt about it that for India, a Chinese 5G will amount to a total surrender of sovereignty to China forever,’’ Mr Fisher and Mr Tiwari warn.

Dwelling upon 5G, they say that it will be at least 20 times faster than the best 4G network today, enabling faster downloads of movies or smoother streaming. But on 5G driven phones, loaded with Artificial Intelligence, companies would  know not only about your today but also about your tomorrow – your plans, your risks and where you are heading to – even before you decide on your next  steps, which would be based on your temperament and conditioned patterns already known to your phone.

In a detailed section on “The Internet World’’, the book predicts that the situation will become more complex and precarious as 5G will not only eavesdrop on people to people communications but also hook them to the vast network of sensors, robots and autonomous vehicles through Artificial Intelligence.

“You  will known if the shoe you bought is transmitting your location at every step, or your watch is hearing what you are talking, and your e-mails are being read by a machine that will “design’’ a future for you that will be worse than any fate that you may have ever feared or imagined,’’ the author duo say.

“With the ability to carry much more data, much lower network latency (network response time), energy consumption, and much better stability than the previous generation of technologies, 5G is expected to transform digital communication.

Using 5G, data can be transmitted at up to 10 gigabytes per second, much faster than using a 4G network, and the latency is reduced to under a millisecond, or 1 per cent of that of 4G. Most of the things would be voice-controlled with no need to even look at your mobile phone just as, after 4G, one does not type anymore; one just touches the screen, and eventually, even that will go,’’ it says.

The book says that 5G will finally bring all human beings online. Artificial Intelligence, with the capability to imitate human intelligence, will perform a wide range of tasks starting from thinking to learning, reasoning, problem-solving, and much more!

“It will initially seem fun and exciting, as was free 4G, but eventually, it will not only control you, but also manipulate you for sure. Even if American 5G will not be too different, it will certainly not destroy Indian businesses for forecasting and flooding cheaper Chinese products in the market, which would be a fait accompli if Chinese 5G is used by India. Concepts like liberty, freedom, and democracy do not exist in China, so how do you expect them to be honoured?’’ the authors say.

Summing up the precariousness of the Internet World, the authors say it is time to look at the Internet seriously, make it secure, see what is lurking beneath its surface, and ensure that personal liberty, democracy, and free market are not lost through the heist in the cyber world.

The book, written over past six months,  also dwells at length on intensifying rivalry between China and the United States and argues that India should take advantage of the opportunity that U.S. decoupling from China will provide, including supply chain movement away from China and into India. “India Wakes’’ is a volume that studies the fate of the triad – India, China  and the U.S. – in the post Coronavirus new world order.

IN A TOUCHING GESTURE, PRESIDENT OF INDIA GIFTS SPORTS CYCLE TO BUDDING CYCLIST

The India Saga Saga |

In a gesture of motivating youth for nation-building, President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind chose a struggling school boy Riyaz, who dreams of excelling as cyclist, to gift him a racing bicycle. The President also wished him to become an international champion of cycling race and realise his dream through his hard work.

The bicycle delivered to Riyaz today (July 31, 2020), a day before Eid-al-Adha, comes as Eidi in true spirit of the festival that is marked by gifts given by elders to youngers. Riyaz’s story is quite educative for those struggling youth who come from the underprivileged class of society and yet dare dream big in their life.

A student of Class 9 at Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya at Anand Vihar in Delhi, Riyaz originally belongs to Madhubani district of Bihar. His family members – his parents, two sisters and one brother – live in Madhubani, while Riyaz stays in a rented accommodation in Maharajpur, Ghaziabad. To supplement his father’s paltry income as a cook, the boy in his free time works in an eatery in Ghaziabad as a dishwasher.

Riyaz’s passion is cycling, and he practises hard after studies and work. In 2017, he won the bronze medal in the Delhi State Cycling Championship. He went on to participate in a school games event in Guwahati, according to the District Magistrate, Ghaziabad, and achieved the fourth rank at the national level.

Enthused by his achievements so far, the boy has raised the bar and has been taking professional training from a coach, Shri Pramod Sharma. He regularly trains at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in Delhi. Unfortunately, he had to depend on a borrowed sports cycle for his practice, and all that the budding champion wanted was a cycle of his own. His wish has finally been granted on the occasion of the Eid. The President came to know of Riyaz’s story of struggle through reports in the media.

Complimenting Riyaz for his achievements defying all odds, President Kovind wished him very best in the life and said that his story should serve as worthy of emulation for the country’s youth who must come forward for nation-building by  dint of their dedication, hard work, courage and honesty.
