Rs 44,015 crore in GST evasion has been found since May 23

TheIndiaSaga Team |

On Sunday, the Ministry of Finance said that the Goods and Services Tax (GST) authorities had found 4,153 false companies suspected of evading input tax credit (ITC) worth approximately Rs 12,036 crore between October and December 2023. Of the 36 states and union territories (UT), Maharashtra ranks first with the greatest number of 926 bogus firms that have engaged in suspected tax evasion totaling Rs 2,201 crore. However, Delhi has demonstrated a higher incidence of tax evasion, with 483 bogus firms suspected of evading taxes totaling Rs 3,028 crore.

Haryana leads all states/union territories in the number of fake firms per lakh registered firms, with 81 of them. Delhi comes in second with 61 fake firms per lakh registered firms, Rajasthan with 59 fake firms per lakh registered firms, and Maharashtra with 54 fake firms per lakh registered firms.

Central GST officials found 2,358 of the 4,153 fraudulent companies that were discovered during the October–December quarter. “A total of 41 people have been arrested in these cases, 31 of whom were by Central GST Authorities,” the Ministry statement stated. “This has helped protect the revenue of Rs 1,317 crore, out of which Rs 319 crore has been realized and Rs 997 crore has been protected by blocking input tax credit.”

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) and state/UT governments, in conjunction with the GST authorities, have been taking action against fraudulent firms to reduce fraud and boost compliance. Tax authorities have launched targeted campaigns against the issuance of false invoices without any supporting supply of goods and services and non-existent/bogus registrations.

In mid-May of last year, a special campaign was launched under GST to combat fraudulent registrations. In April of last year, The Indian Express published a report detailing multiple cases of fraudulent companies avoiding taxes by supplying manpower for services instead of goods from Gujarat to Bihar. These companies did this to avoid creating e-way bills, which are required for the interstate transportation of goods valued at more than Rs 50,000.

Additionally, there have been cases where Aadhaar has connected companies to random people’s mobile numbers. These people then began receiving OTPs and multiple GST registrations from the same address. In many of these cases, fictitious documents were produced. After discussions at the highest levels of government, tax authorities discovered these fraud cases under the GST regime, which led them to launch a special campaign against frauds linked to registration in 2023–2024.

Maldives India Out plan will hurt them Financilly, Politically and Militarily

According to the Ministry, since then, 29,273 false companies implicated in alleged ITC (Input Tax Credit) evasion of Rs 44,015 crore have been found. “This has prevented ITC from taking $3,802 crore, saving Rs 4,646 crore; the remaining Rs 844 crore are from recovery. It said that 121 arrests have been made thus far in the cases.

To increase revenue collections, tax authorities have identified registration-linked frauds as one of the main focus areas for tighter scrutiny in the financial year 2023–2024. No significant changes to the GST rate are anticipated before the general elections, which are anticipated to take place in the coming months. The GST registration procedure has prompted the government to take several actions. Three additional states have started pilot programs involving biometric-based Aadhaar authentication during registration: Gujarat, Puducherry, and Andhra Pradesh.

The government has also implemented steps to reduce tax evasion, including the filing of GST returns in a sequential manner, the use of data analytics and risk parameters to identify fake ITC, and the generation of system-generated notifications for reconciling the discrepancies in tax liability between GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B returns and the ITC available under GSTR-2B and the ITC availed in GSTR-3B returns.

Maldives India Out plan will hurt them Financilly, Politically and Militarily

The world’s most popular leader and Indian Prime Minister recently visited Lakshadweep, bringing controversy over social media. Days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Lakshadweep, Maldivian deputy minister of youth empowerment Mariyam Shiuna posted a tweet that sparked a massive social media outrage. Many Indian celebrities, including actor Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan, and former cricketer Aakash Chopra, joined the calls to boycott the island nation. Zahid Rameez, a senator for the Progressive Party of the Maldives, also made a controversial statement regarding the following. He questioned whether India could provide better services than the Maldives in a social media post.

In response to a video promoting tourism in Lakshadweep, an Indian Union territory in the Arabian Sea, the ministers had disparaged Modi on social media platform X, calling him a “clown,” “terrorist,” and “puppet of Israel”.

After the derogatory remarks, former Maldivian president Mohamed Nasheed urged President Mohamed Muizzu to distance the government from Shiuna’s disparaging remarks about Modi, the Maldives government later on Sunday distanced itself from them. He said, India is “instrumental” to the security and prosperity of the Maldives, and he asked Muizzu to assure New Delhi that the remarks don’t represent official policy.

After taking office in November of last year, Muizzu announced during the election that he would change the Maldives’ “India-first” policy and expunge the small number of about 75 Indian military personnel stationed in the nation of over a hundred islands. Even in his election campaign he supported the ‘India Out’ movement and supported the Chinese motive.

Maldives India Out plan: Disagreement on the Hydrography Pact

There has been some debate in the Indian media regarding the Maldives’ recent decision to end a cooperative hydrographic survey agreement with India. Signed amid the 2019 Maldives visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the agreement was regarded as a representation of India-Maldives defense relations. A few weeks after the island nation formally requested that New Delhi remove its Indian military forces from its territory, Malé made its move. Malé also chose not to attend the most recent Colombo Security Conclave meeting in December 2023, perhaps further highlighting its misgivings regarding defense engagement with India.

Delhi High Court sets deadlines for organ transplant cases

TheIndiaSaga Team |

On Thursday, the Delhi High Court set deadlines for the authorization committee to interview potential donors and make decisions regarding organ transplant cases following the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Rules, 2014.

“An organized and timely transplantation decision-making process” as envisaged by the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act and the 2014 Rules would be “nullified if timelines are not prescribed for various steps,” a single-judge bench of Justice Prathiba Singh declared.

Judge Singh concluded that, in light of the crucial significance of pre-transplantation interviews, deadlines under the 2014 Rules needed to be established. By notification, the state government or Union Territories shall establish one or more authorization committees under the Act. These committees shall be composed of members who may be nominated by the state government or Union Territories under the terms and conditions outlined in the notification.

“Such a time-bound strategy is essential to preserving the efficacy and integrity of organ transplantation protocols. Additionally, this would support Article 21 of the Constitution’s Right to Health. The high court emphasized that internal timelines must still be adjusted to guarantee the authorization committee’s systematic operation, even though the committee’s satisfaction is vitally important to this process.

It further stated that the application for living donor transplantation must be processed within a maximum of 10 days of the date of the application. Within a maximum of 14 days, the documents about the recipient’s and donor’s domicile status must be verified. The court further stated that any chance provided to the donor or recipient to finish the necessary paperwork must be informed to them within the time frame specified by the Rules.

Justice Singh added that the interview ought to be set up in two weeks following the receipt of the application, which should take four to six weeks. It further stated that the committee was to interview the donor and recipient one or two times during these two weeks, arrange for a meeting of the donor and recipient’s families, and communicate the decision.

The court stated, “Ideally, the entire process—from submission to decision—ought not to exceed six to eight weeks.”

The intent, as well as the letter and spirit of the 1994 Act and the 2014 Rules, are all at odds with the prolonged waiting periods of two to three years that have been experienced in certain cases due to non-compliance with timelines. Such protracted wait times can result in severe psychological and physical distress for the recipient and donor, as well as their families. Consequently, the court stated that for the donor/recipient and their respective families to continue with the decision-making process, there must be clear and timely communication regarding the application, whether it be oral or written.

The high court noted in its 42-page ruling that pre-transplant interviews are essential because the authorization committee needs to make sure the donor is not doing this organ donation for financial gain. The court did state that the interview and documentation process must be completed in a “time-bound manner,” failing which the process’s intended outcome may be compromised.

Making decisions quickly is important for both the donor and the recipient, as well as for their families. In actuality, the procedure’s complexity tends to discourage organ donation, which would also be counterproductive to the Act’s intended goal of promoting societal harmony. The high court emphasized that the Act and Rules are meant to regulate organ donation rather than to discourage it.

To guarantee that deadlines under the 1994 Act and 2014 Rules are prescribed for all the steps in the process of considering applications for organ donation, the court called for the judgment to be placed before the Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, following consultation with the pertinent stakeholders.

In 2020, a kidney patient filed a plea with the high court, requesting that Sir Ganga Ram Hospital perform a kidney transplant and that the authorization committee provide the required approval. In 2021, the patient had passed away.

How to Get Your Dream Bollywood Wedding Lehenga without Breaking the Bank

The India Saga Saga |

Bridal lehenga, dazzling with sequins and elegance, it’s the stuff of Bollywood dreams and will elevate you to ultimate queen status for your special day. But these designer fantasies are often very expensive. What can a bride do on a tight budget? Fashionistas, fear not! You don’t have to spend your entire wedding budget to achieve a Bollywood-worthy lehenga – all it takes is a little imagination and ingenuity.

Here is how to get Your Dream Bollywood Wedding Lehenga

1. Be a Savvy Shopper:

  • Embrace the Off-Season: Put an end to the craziest wedding season! Shop between April and May and September and October, when stores have bridal clearance sales with steep discounts. A gorgeous lehenga may even be yours for a little portion of its original cost.
  • Befriend the Second-Hand Market: Pre-owned lehengas are a veritable gold mine just waiting to be uncovered. Look into websites such as Carousell and WeddingSutra, or even stop by your neighborhood consignment shops. The secret treasures you may discover—many of which are in perfect condition—will surprise you!
  • Channel Your Inner Designer: Go beyond store-bought clothing. Investigate regional fabric marketplaces such as Mumbai’s Bandra Road and Delhi’s Chandni Chowk. Stunning textiles can be purchased by the meter and then expertly tailored to your specifications by a local tailor. In this manner, you obtain a one-of-a-kind item that exactly suits your budget and expresses your distinctive style.

2. Prioritise and Play with Proportions:

  • Less is More: Ditch the full-body embroidery! Focus on one piece of the lehenga like a heavily beaded blouse or dupatta and keep the rest simple. This way you can avoid spending money on expensive embroidery work while creating a dramatic visual contrast.
  • Fabric Magic: Choose luxurious textiles like velvet, silk, or handwoven fabrics like Bandhej or Banarasi. Heavy embellishments are not necessary to accentuate the natural elegance of these fabrics. They also overlap beautifully, giving you the bridal flow you want.
  • Mix and Match: It can be mixed and matched! Wear a statement dupatta or a modern blouse with a classic lehenga skirt. You can even add antiques like grandma’s dupatta or a beloved necklace for a personal touch and family history.

3. Accessorise with Style:

  • Jewellery Junction: An outfit with jewelry can work wonders for a lehenga. Instead of bulky bridal sets, go for bold earrings, a little maang tikka, or a stack of vibrant bangles. To put together a distinctive and reasonably priced ensemble, you can even borrow items from friends and family.
  • Footwear Fantasy: Give up your stilettos! Choose cozy juttis or mojaris that go well with your lehenga. They’ll have you dancing all night long and give your appearance a hint of Indian style.
  • Floral Flourish: A lovely and affordable option to accessorise your lehenga is with fresh flowers. Create a gorgeous floral haath phool, tuck a few jasmine strands into your braid, or weave roses into your dupatta. They not only smell amazing, but they also give your bridal look a hint of the charm of nature.

Love’s Sweet Embrace: Gift Ideas for Valentine’s Day 2024

Remember the influence of hair and cosmetics! A gorgeous haircut and flawless makeup can make even the most basic lehenga look amazing. Try a variety of looks to determine what will make you feel radiantly gorgeous and confident on your wedding day. You can locate the lehenga of your dreams that makes you sparkle brighter than any diamond without burning a hole in your purse if you follow these suggestions and add a dash of Bollywood inspiration.

Music composer Samarth Saxena shares his affair on Pind Daan, with filmmaker Divyansh Pandit

TheIndiaSaga Team | Updated :

On the 9th of November this year, short filmmaker Divyansh Pandit released his latest work, Pind Daan, a short film, with Yatin Karyekar and Aadil Jaipuri in the lead roles. Revolving around a strong social issue, this short film was screened at cinepolis in the presence of the legendary director duo, Abbas Mastan. Alongside them, stood the legendary lyricist Sameer Anjaan and singer Shaan, who were brought together on Pind Daan for the song ‘Aakhri Jung’, which was released on music label – Wild Buffaloes Music, also founded by Divyansh. With music by the young and ‘immensely’ (as Divyansh refers to him) talented, Samarth Saxena, the song has been widely appreciated. It was not deprived of praises from Abbas Mastan as well during the screening.

We asked Divyansh to throw light on how he handpicked such a young talent for such a profound subject and this is what he had to say, “Samarth’s age can be really deceiving. Going by my intuition , I knew he was a bomb waiting to blast and that is why I looked beyond his age. I like to have my music in place before I begin writing anything and that’s why I had put up a story on my Insta account stating my requirement for a music composer along with the flavour I was looking for. Now this is where it gets interesting. DMs of various music composers began pouring in. I was going through them and in a few days, I received a text from Samarth. It was so inspiring to see that he did not send me any request to work on Pind Daan, instead, he straight away sent me a musical piece in sync with my brief. I was like
wow! Now, the musical piece was nowhere close to what I wanted but what attracted me was his attitude and I just got him on board.”

We asked Samarth about the reason behind this proactiveness and elaborated saying, “Since it was Divyansh, I knew he would come up with something which won’t be conventional. So when I saw his insta story, I was really kicked about it. It might sound really weird but after days of trying to compose a tune, when I saturated it, it finally came to me when least expected. In my dream (chuckles)! Believe me, I am not exaggerating a bit, I woke up with a tune in my head and immediately called up Divyansh. This is how Aakhri Jung happened to me.

After I finalised the composition, I recommended bringing a legendary singer on board, I will not mention his name and on the other hand, Divyansh recommended another legend, Shaan sir. I mean, who is not a fan of Shaan sir? But I couldn’t fathom his voice given the range of the song. Divyansh’s conviction was solid and finally, we went to Sameer sir for his views. The very next thing was that I was recording with Shaan sir and i’ll be very honest to my work, he nailed it.“

Samarth Saxena has been exposed to music ever since his childhood. His father, Prashant Salil, is a composer, arranger and a renowned santoor player, trained under the maestro, Late Pandit Shivkumar Sharma. Samarth credits Pind Daan to opening portals of his talent that were yet to be seen.

We dove deeper into Samarth’s inception in the world of music and he stated, “Being born into a family of musicians and artists, and having been trained right since childhood, my go to form of expressing my emotions has always been music. I feel like what I can’t put into just words, I put into music much more easily”.

Elaborating his new found accord with Samarth, Divyansh said, “There are two words that I repeatedly use for Samarth. ‘Immense’ and ‘Divine’. Immense, because the boundaries of his talent are nowhere in sight, and divine, because…well, his egoless attitude and being absolutely pure at heart are traits that vividly reflect in his work. This was evident when the track was widely praised by many film critics and dignitaries. In fact the track is available on our music label, Wild Buffaloes Music. so all in all, I am absolutely up for collaborations with such a powerhouse of talents.”

Pind Daan was recently posted by actor Amitabh Bachchan on his social media accounts and since then, it caught quite some traction on random meme pages. The short film is available for viewing on the Wild Buffaloes Entertainment YouTube channel.

TheIndiaSaga Team |

Jeffrey Epstein, the financier who died by suicide in 2019 while facing sex trafficking charges, has cast a long shadow over the rich and powerful. Now, that shadow has grown longer with the unsealing of hundreds of pages of court documents from a lawsuit against his former girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell.

Who was Jeffrey Epstein?

A millionaire who was well-known for his social circles with politicians, sports stars, billionaires, and academic wealthy individuals, Epstein was first detained in 2005 in Palm Beach, Florida, on suspicion of paying a 14-year-old girl for sex.

In 2008, the financier was allowed to plead guilty to a crime involving a single victim by the prosecution, even though numerous other minor females had reported similar incidents of sexual assault. He participated in a correctional work-release program for 13 months.

What are the court documents?

The previously unsealed materials are a component of a case filed by Virginia Roberts Giuffre, who claims she was mistreated as a teenager by Epstein and Maxwell. Emails, depositions, and other formerly private information are included in the documents.

The most explosive aspect of the unsealed documents is the inclusion of names that were previously removed. These names reportedly include:

Prince Andrew, Duke of York: The Queen’s son has faced scrutiny for his friendship with Epstein and has denied any wrongdoing.

Bill Clinton: The former US President has said he took flights on Epstein’s private jet but has denied any knowledge of Epstein’s illegal activities.

Jimmy Kimmel threatened to sue NFL star Aaron Rodgers over the ‘Epstein list’ fiasco

What do Epstein’s documents reveal?

Although the details of the documents are still being examined, it is anticipated that they will provide fresh insight into Epstein’s actions and the scope of his network. They might also offer more proof against Maxwell and possibly link other people to Epstein’s misdeeds.

The public’s interest in the Epstein case is expected to be sparked again by the release of these records, which may result in additional inquiries and legal action. It serves as a reminder that everyone is subject to the law, including the wealthy and powerful, and that justice for Epstein’s victims will never be served.
