Pakistan passes Afghanistan as most terror-hit nation

The India Saga Saga |

Pakistan has beaten Afghanistan as the nation with the most mass terrorist attacks and death in South Asia, the annual Global Terrorism Index report disclosed by the Australia-based Institute for Economics and Peace stated. Pakistan listed the second-largest jump in terror-related deaths worldwide last year. The count increased significantly to 643, a 120 per cent increase from 292 deaths in 2021. The loss of people in Pakistan represented the most significant year-on-year increase in the previous decade. The report says that due to a significant increase in fatalities, the sixth position on the index has been attained by Pakistan, mainly in military personnel who constitute a minimum of 55 per cent of all victims of terrorism.

The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) was accountable for 36 per cent of terror-connected deaths in Pakistan, which was a direct nine-fold surge from the previous year. According to the IEP report, the BLA has recently overtaken Tahreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) also known as Pakistan Taliban, which they recognised as the deadliest terror outfit in Pakistan. The BLA’s lethality figure has escalated to its highest level with attacks killing 7.7 people per attack in 2022, compared to 1.5 per attack the previous year. In 2022, there were a total of 233 deaths associated with BLA, and the majority of them, specifically 95 per cent, were soldiers.

The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) is claiming to be resisting and fighting for independence for the Balochistan province adjoining Afghanistan and Iran. On the other hand, Pakistan, the United States and the UK have designated both the TTP and BLA as terror organisations. As per the Global Terrorism Index report, the lethal attack attributed to the BLA in 2022 took place when its gunmen bombed and hit two separate security check posts for the Frontier Corps in February last year. Even though no official death count was confirmed, the BLA claimed that they were responsible for the strikes and that they had killed 195 military personnel in both attacks.

According to the Global Terrorism Index, the majority of terrorist activity is still focused on the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan, where 63 per cent of attacks and 74 per cent of fatalities occur. The report suggests that the overall rise in deaths across the country can be attributed to the escalating terror activities of groups such as  TTP and the Islamic Khorasan. The TTP has been waging terrorist attacks against Pakistani security forces to seek an Islamic Sharia-complaint state like the radical Taliban have established in Afghanistan.

The Afghan Taliban has a branch known as Pakistan Taliban, which is closely allied with them. The Pakistan Taliban’s leaders and commanders are situated in Afghanistan and they are believed to plan acts of terrorism across the border from there. The Islamic State Khorasan has carried out numerous attacks along the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan. These attacks occurred primarily in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), followed by Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and c. In 2022, the deadliest attack by  ISK in Pakistan took place in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, where a suicide bombing during Friday prayers at a Shia mosque resulted in the deaths of at least 56 people, as noted in the report.

Yoga Scholar Pragati Seth teaches how persistence & hard work can take one a long way

The India Saga Saga |

Life is an unpredictable saga, sometimes there are ups and sometimes downs. Maybe in some events, it just throws unforeseen circumstances and we have no choice but to stay strong. How did it all begin?

The journey of learning yoga and completely engulfing in it began with some people advising Pragati Seth to start yoga as she was already a dancer and had what it takes to become a well-versed yoga practitioner. She heeded their advice and began by just doing yoga as a form of physical exercise. While pursuing her Bachelor of Science in Medical Science (B.sc.) degree from Bundelkhand University, Jhansi, Pragati honed her abilities. Due to her background in medicine, she had the opportunity to interact closely with professionals in the medical sciences and learn more about yoga.

All the practices, interactions and deep research got her so inspired by the art that she went on to complete her master’s in yoga and naturopathy with a focus on hospitality (M.sc. Yoga). Furthermore, she was given the wonderful opportunity to take part in India’s largest research project for Banglore Svyasa (Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhan Sansthan) for a project called ‘Stop Dibatese Movement’ because of her dedication and commitment. Due to sudden unfortunate events, her family’s financial situation got unstable, however, her mother always stood by her no matter what. Pragati on other hand started teaching dance to students for fun and also to become self-independent. Moreover, she continued studying and got her degrees while learning all about yoga and becoming a professional in it.

The most important thing that Pragati followed was perseverance. No matter what life threw at her face, she always fought and stood firm while continuing to work hard. This makes her an inspiration for all. She teaches everyone that no matter what may come, one always has the power to figure it out and make all the dreams come true. Even after her marriage, she was lucky enough to get a husband who supported her through everything and Pragati Seth ensured to explore each dimension that she could and aced many of them.

Significant Milestones and Future Prospects

Pragati’s contribution to the field of yoga has been getting recognition for quite some time now. Owing to this, the yoga scholar was awarded the prestigious ‘State Yogini Award 2023’ at the International Yogini Award Ceremony. Now she will be participating in Vogue Star Mrs India Finale 2023. Also, she played the lead role in the movie Ladies First which was based on women’s empowerment.

The future plans for Pragati Seth include setting an even stronger benchmark in the industry and making a bigger name for herself as a Yoga Scholor and Health Coach. India may have ‘bad’ news for smartphone makers

The India Saga Saga |

The Indian government is considering the implementation of new security rules that would require smartphone manufacturers to allow users to uninstall pre-installed apps, as per a news agency report. The report, which cites two sources and government documents, suggests that India is likely to propose these regulations soon, and also mandate the screening of significant operating system updates.

A senior government official, one of two individuals who declined to be named as the information is not yet public, stated that India’s IT Ministry is contemplating these new rules due to concern about spying and abuse of user data, according to the report. According to officials, “Pre-installed applications can pose a security vulnerability and it is crucial to prevent any foreign nations, including China, from exploiting it, as it is a significant national security concern.

The world’s No. 2 smartphone market could face extended launch timelines and players including Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo could suffer losses in business from pre-installed apps due to the new regulations. However, official details of the new rules are not known yet. Currently, many smartphones are sold with pre-installed applications that are impossible to remove. Some examples include the Apple Safari browser, Samsung’s payment app Samsung Pay and Xiaomi’s app store GetApps.

Under the unofficial proposed regulations, smartphone manufacturers will be required to provide users with the ability to uninstall such applications. Additionally, a lab authorized by the Bureau of Indian Standards agency will verify the compliance of new smartphone models with these regulations. This information comes from two sources who are familiar with the plan. One source said to a news agency, the government is also considering mandating screening of every major operating system (OS) update before it is rolled out to consumers.

In the context of security concerns, India has already banned more than 300 Chinese apps, including TikTok, ramping up scrutiny of Chinese businesses since a 2020 LAC clash between the neighbours. It has worked as a catalyst for intensified scrutiny of investment by Chinese firms. Many countries have reservations about pre-installed apps. India is not alone in this league that demands that smartphone makers allow the removal of pre-installed apps.
