The Prime Minister’s Office and official residence remain in chaos after protesters invaded the residence following the resignation of Ms. Hasina. The images of students invading the official residence have gone viral on many social media platforms.  

Following the collapse of the Bangladesh government with the departure of Sheikh Hasina, an interim government led by Muhammad Yunus is formed. Muhammad Yunus has taken oath on August 7^th as the head of an interim government at Bangabhaban. President Mohammad Shahabuddin administrated the oath to the 84-year-old Nobel Laureate. The former managing director of Grameen Bank, Yunus, was sworn in as the Chief Advisor, a position that is similar to that of a prime minister. It is important to note that no one from Ms. Hasina’s party, Awami League, was present at the ceremony.  

Who are the members of the interim government? 

It comprises a 16-member council of advisors that are assigned to lead the crisis-ridden Bangladesh for a short period of time. Additionally, the council will also overlook the transition of power from the interim to the elected government. Student leaders Nadid Islam and Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan have joined the interim government in Bangladesh headed by Muhammad Yunus. Additionally, Brigadier General (retd) M. Sakhawat Hossain, Farida Akhtar, AFM Khalid Hossain, Nurjahan Begum, Sharmeen Murshid, Supradip Chakma, Bidhan Ranjan Roy and former Foreign Secretary Touhid Hossain are a few prominent figures among the advisory council members. 

Violet Protests  in Bangladesh

The political climate of Bangladesh has been volatile as early as the January 7 elections, when Ms. Hasina’s Awami League had a landslide victory. However, the voting system was widely criticized to be unfair and corrupt. The first major wave of student-led protests began in June, due to the Bangladeshi high court restoring a thirty percent reservation in government employment for veterans and family members of those who fought for freedom in Bangladesh’s 1971 War of Independence. The violent nature of the protests is clear since it is reported that 450 people were injured. The students demanded a job allocation system that was based on merit and hence, launched an anti-quota protest. Moreover, the nation’s Supreme Court eventually reduced the quota, but students were enraged at Ms. Hasina’s handling of the demonstrations and her alleged use of an offensive term for the students.  

The protest was further aggravated with students demanding the resignation of Ms. Hasina. Additionally, the clash between the agitators and the police took an ugly turn. Over 100 people were dead, while dozens were injured across the nation. Following this violent encounter, lakhs of protestors filled the streets and paced towards the Prime Minister’s official mansion in Bangabhaban. 

The Indian embassy stated, “In view of the ongoing situation in Bangladesh, the Indian community members and members and the Indian students residing in Bangladesh are advised to avoid travel and minimize their movement outside their living premises.”

Furthermore, many Indian students residing in Bangladesh have been impacted by the social unrest. The Indian High Commission in Dhaka has issued a statement in this regard, urging for Indian citizens and students in Bangladesh to stay indoors amidst the anti-quota protests. This news comes after Bangladesh shut down all public and private universities following the political unrest in the country.

Sooraj Cherukat, who goes by the name of HanuMankind was born and brought up in Kerela, India, until the 4th grade. Thereafter, he grew up in Texas, United States, only to return to India. His multicultural upbringing is reflected in his art, as he is known for his fusion of desi hip-hop and western musical elements. Furthermore, this explains his southern accent with which the rapper performs. Thus, HanuMankind is a trailblazing artist who has masterfully combined his western influences with Indian roots.

At midnight on August 8, when Indians were half asleep, the golden boy from India won the first silver medal for his nation in the Olympics 2024. To win the men’s javelin Olympic gold again in the finals of the Paris Olympics, Neeraj Chopra threw the second-best throw of his career (89.45 meters). However, it was insufficient to bring gold home gain. Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan won the gold on Thursday, August 8, setting a new Olympic record of 92.97 meters. This was Pakistan’s first track and field gold medal at the Olympic Games. 
 
Neeraj Chopra made only one legal throw out of six and added an Olympic silver to his impressive trophy chest. Leivars admitted she didn’t anticipate the recognition her script would receive. “I wrote it and sent it off without expecting much,” she said. “When I got an email from the head of the awards asking me to call him, I panicked, thinking I’d done something wrong. Instead, I found out I was shortlisted. Winning was a surreal experience. I wasn’t prepared at all – my glasses and phone were on my lap, and when they announced my name, everything just fell.”

India’s professional wrestler, Vinesh Phogat is disqualified from the Paris Olympics 2024. The female athlete who was competing in the 50 kg freestyle wrestling category, is now completely out of the tournament. This heartbreak comes due to the wrestler’s weight being over the limit for the event. Hence, the Indian star was announced to be not eligible for the upcoming final match.  

As per the rules of United World Wrestling (UWW), the wrestlers advancing to the finals must go through another round of weigh-in at the start of the day. Phogat usually participates in the 53 kg category but reduced her weight down to 50 kg for this season’s Olympics. However, on Day 2 of her weigh-in, Vinesh was found to be overweight with a slight margin of 100 grams. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has filed an appeal regarding the matter.   

It has been reported that the Indian wrestler was desperate to lose the extra weight after finding out that it was up by 1 kg. She did so by cycling and engaging in other physically exhausting exercises. After her desperate attempt, she had managed to sweat 900 grams. Additionally, it is being reported that the female athlete didn’t sleep the entire night. The Chief Medical Officer of the Indian Contingent, Dr. Dinshaw Paudiwala came forward with the statement that the team had left no stone unturned to reduce the wrestler’s weight. However, the disqualification has sparked many controversies, including questioning the coach and supporting staff for not managing the athlete’s weight correctly.  

Setback for India

The deeply saddening news comes after the assurance of having secured an Olympic medal. Vinesh Phogat made a record by becoming the first Indian woman to reach the final of a wrestling event in the Olympic Games. Her abrupt exit from the tournament means that India will be deprived of its confirmed silver medal. The medal would have also marked the first silver for the Indian contingent in this season’s Olympics.  

Right after Phogat’s exit from the final race was confirmed, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to X, to express his condolences for the star athlete. Bikaner, July 2024: As a means to further enhance the healthcare infrastructure and system of Rajasthan, the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Shri Bhajan Lal Sharma, inaugurated the Sant Shri Dularam Kularia Primary Healthcare Center (PHC) in the Moolwas village of Nokha Block of Bikaner, Rajasthan, on Sunday, 28^th July.    

The handover of the Sant Shri Dularam Kularia Primary Healthcare Center (PHC) to the state government was motivated by the aim of helping the community and fostering a sense of welfare. The healthcare center is built by Mr. Narsi Kularia, Managing Director of Narsi Interior Infrastructures Pvt Ltd Mumbai, and Mr. Jagdish Kularia, Director of Narsi Interior Infrastructure Pvt Ltd Mumbai. The PHC is built in memory of Mr. Narsi Kularia’s father and Mr. Jagdish Kularia’s grandfather, Sant Shri Dularam Kularia. In addition, the CSR initiative by Mr. Narsi Kularia, laid the founding bricks of this healthcare center in 2020 with the objective to promote better healthcare and wellness in Seelwa. 

The special inauguration ceremony welcomed the esteemed presence of dignitaries such as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan- Bhajan Lal Sharma, Union Law Minister- Arjun Meghwal, Union Tourism and Culture Minister- Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, State Health Minister- Gajendra Singh Khimsar, and Food Supply Minister- Sumit Godara. Their applause echoed throughout the procession of the event and was a witness to the noble cause behind the setting up of this healthcare center.   

Spanning over 12100 square yards and constructed with a budget of Rs. 15 Crores, the PHC is home to state-of-the-art technology. Moreover, it is equipped with high-tech medical facilities such as a fine operation theatre, 24-hour pharmacy, an OPD for immediate first-aid, CBC facilities, and advanced X-ray machines. Besides this, the PHC offers 14 beds for women and 8 for men. Lastly, one of the most notable features of this healthcare center is its 50,000-litre rainwater harvesting tank, set up with sustainable development as its flag-bearer.  

Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, the Union Minister of Tourism and Culture, thanked the Narsi family in his native language of Marwari, and said, “I thank the Kularia family for investing the money in the right place and repaying the debt of the motherland. In addition to the healthcare center, the Narsi family also designed the interior of the New Parliament Building and Bharat Mandapam. The Kularia family invests its earnings in social welfare without any hesitation.” 

Furthermore, praising Mr. Narsi Kularia, the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, said, “Service is considered the ultimate religion here. We imbibe the principle of ‘Nar Seva Hi Narayan Seva’. We work with the feeling that if you serve a man, it will be equal to serving the Hindu god Narayan. The government will also give full support in such pious works.” The Chief Minister has also promised to upgrade this Primary Healthcare Center into a Community Healthcare Center.  

During the progression of the event, Mr. Narsi Kularia said that thousands of people from the surrounding villages of Charkra, Seelwa, Dawa, Tant, Kedli, Badhda, and more, will be able to benefit from this healthcare center.
