Priyanka Gandhi’s new avatar; Chandan on Forehead, Durga Stuti on her Lips

The India Saga Saga |

Priyanka Gandhi, on Sunday, at Varanasi, during Kisan Nyay Rally was seen in a complete ‘Devoted Hindu Woman’ like avatar. Seen sporting Chandan and Tilak on her forehead and reciting Durga Stuti, she addressed a massive crowd of farmers and was all guns blazing against the BJP government. Attacking PM Narendra Modi, she said, the PM visited Lucknow but not Lakhimpur Kheri.

In a move to regain the Hindu Voters, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was seen in a completely new avatar on Sunday at Varanasi which also happens to be the constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Congress leader was seen sporting Chandan and Tilak on her forehead and was also seen reciting ‘Durga Stuti’ at the mega Kisan Nyay Rally.

Highlighting the recent violence and deaths at Lakhimpur Kheri, Priyanka said her party will fight BJP as it fought for freedom from the British.

Garnering large attention for her positive role in the aftermath of the Lakhimpur Kheri Violence when she visited the families of the kin to assure them of justice. She, on Sunday, launched the Congress party’s campaign for the Uttar Pradesh Elections which is due in February next year. Launching a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, she accused Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of shielding Union Minister of State Ajay Misra and his son Ashish Misra who has been accused of mowing down protesting farmers in the Lakhimpur Kheri.

Addressing the ‘Kisan Nyay Rally,’ Vadra questioned PM by asking why Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who visited Lucknow last week, did not visit the families of eight people who had died in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident. She said, “The CM is shielding the minister from the public forum. PM came down to Lucknow to see the performance of ‘Uttam Pradesh’ and ‘Azaadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ but couldn’t go to Lakhimpur Kheri to share the grief of the victim families.” She further added that while ‘families of all the victims said they want justice’ the government has been shielding the minister and his son. She also launched a blistering attack on PM Modi and CM Yogi for calling the farmers ‘terrorists’ and ‘hooligans.’

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, earlier, was also praised for her positive role when she went to visit the family of the girl who was raped in Hathras. The famous dip at the Sangam in Prayagraj a couple of months ago, stopping at Mari Mata temple on the outskirts of Lucknow on October 7 before heading towards Lakhimpur Kheri and now sporting a Chandan and reciting Durga Stuti goes to prove that with her new avatar, she is trying to woo the lost Hindu Voters for her party. Now, in Varanasi, she also visited Kashi Vishwanath and Durga temple.

Delhi may see Power Blackout amid Coal Shortage: Delhi CM, Centre gives assurance

The India Saga Saga |

Delhi may see a Power Blackout as over half of India’s 135 coal-fired power plants, which in total supply amounts to roughly around 70% of the country’s electricity, have fuel stocks of less than a day. The warning came after the Delhi Power Minister held a meeting with the representatives of power distribution companies to discuss the ‘power crisis.’

Satyendar Jain, Delhi’s Power Minister, on Saturday, after attending a crucial meeting with the representatives of power distribution companies said that there is only one day stock of coal left in the thermal power station from where the national capital gets the electricity. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, elevating his colleague’s pitch, also warned of a power crisis that could hit the National Capital as seen in some parts of the eastern and northern states.

Taking it to Twitter, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal wrote, “Delhi could face a power crisis.” He also shared a copy of the letter which he wrote to  Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagging a shortage of fuel in power plants in and around Delhi. Several states including Gujarat, Punjab, Delhi, and Tamil Nadu have raised concerns over impending blackouts. Punjab has already imposed rotational load shedding at several coal shortages at thermal power plants. The plants are left with coal stock for up to five days, an official of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited was quoted by a news agency.

“There is politics going on. If you create a crisis, it will seem that some great work has been done by solving it, Satyendar Jain said. Mr Jain also said, “All three companies in Delhi are distributors and not the power producers. We depend on the centre’s plants. If the supply does not come, then after two days there will be a blackout in the whole of Delhi.

Hitting out the opposition parties, Union Power Minister RK Singh, on Sunday,  said, “A panic has been unnecessarily created about the coal shortages and this is due to miscommunication from GAIL and TATA.” He further added “The country has four days reserve and we have sufficient power available. We are supplying power to the entire country. Whoever wants, give me a requisition and I will supply them.” The supply routinely drops during the monsoon season as mines get flooded, he clarified.

On Saturday, Union Coal Minister Pralhad Joshi had said that the increase in the international price of coal and heavy rainfall in the country this year contributed to its shortage. “If you compare with the past many years, coal production and dispatch have been the highest in September and especially in October. In another three to four days, things will be alright,” he further added. The Union ministry of power has listed four reasons for the depletion of coal stocks, including an unprecedented increase in demand for electricity due to the revival of the economy, after chief ministers of Delhi, Punjab and Andhra Pradesh flagged the issue of shortage of coal at power plants. The power ministry said that an inter-ministerial sub-group led by the ministry of coal has been monitoring the coal stock situation twice a week as declining coal reserves sparked concerns of a power crisis in the country.

The power minister constituted a Core Management Team (CMT) on August 27 in order to manage the coal stock and ensure its equitable distribution. Representatives from MOP, CEA, POSOCO, Indian Railways and Coal India Limited (CIL) have been tasked with ensuring daily monitoring. The CMT is closely monitoring and managing coal stocks on a daily basis and ensuring follow up actions with CIL and Indian Railways to improve the coal supply to power plants. CMT in its meeting held on October 9 reviewed the status and the situation is likely to improve in the upcoming days as told by an official on the ground of anonymity.

Pune’s Bangia Sanskriti Samsad celebrating Durga Pooja in the truest sense

The India Saga Saga |

“Puja is all about serving humanity. We have decided to shun all pomp and show this Durga puja. Lauding the initiative, The Bangiya Sanskriti Samiti said “Goddess Durga will be happier if the puja organizers reach out to the poor and the needy.”
Durga Pooja is just around the corner and artists and decorators are busy giving final touches to theme-based pandals in the city. Many of them have, however, decided to celebrate the festival with less pomp amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Durga Puja organized by Bangiya Sanskriti Samsad is the oldest Durga Puja in Pune, Maharashtra going back to 1940, a eighty two year old pandal, perhaps one of the most celebrated one! Initially it was named as “Greater Poona Sarbojanin Durgotsav”, Until 1966, the pandal had their base in two different locations, held alternately every year- kirkee and ShivajiNagar. As the years passed by the Pandal gained humungous popularity and the committee felt the need for a poojo pandals to be established in various parts of the city.So three Durga Pujas were organized in 1967. One in Kirkee, one in Camp area near AFMC and the other in Shivajinagar which is the present one.

This Puja was held in a plot near Rahul Theatre till 1980. In 1981 the Puja venue was shifted and this time it was held in an open plot opposite to Fergusson College on F. C. Road. The pandal soon entrenched emotional bond amidst the Bengali’s and non Bengalis as well resulting a demand for a bigger space. However In 1984, the Puja Pandal was organised on the premises of Congress Bhavan, Shivajinagar. Since then and till 2019 prior to the Covid Pandemic the Durga Puja was held in Congress Bhavan premises for a prolonged period of 36 years.

Bangiya Sanskriti Samsad, a socio-cultural organization of the Bengalees in Pune was established in 1965 whose main aims and objectives are to organize socio-cultural activities in Pune irrespective of cast, creed and religion. In course of time the Bangiya Sanskriti Samsad made its own building named Samsad Bhavan in Bhosale nagar. In 1987 the Sarbijanin Durgotsav came under the aegis of Samsad and since then Bangiya Sanskriti Samsad is organising this Durga Puja every year.

Last year, in 2020 in the midst of peak Covid situation we organized the Puja in a very limited scale in our own premises, the Samsad Bhavan in Bhosale Nagar taking all precautions against Covid pandemic. Entire premises was properly sanitized and entry of the devotee members at the time of Puja were limited adhering all social distancing norms. The Puja rituals including Puspanjali were also shown Online, so that members could passively participate in the rituals and offer Pushpanali sitting at home.
The Bangiya Sankriti Samsad have been organising various socio cultural functions for the audiences who attend the festivities. They have also striked a change in the society by encouraging and gathering people from all walks of life. Recently in the year 2019, they organised a ‘Sindoor Khela’ funtions for widows, Transgender and economically backward women thereby giving a message of social acceptance.

The Idol makers, the Dhaki ( a traditional drummer clan originating from Calcutta) , and the Priests all come from Various places in west Bengal to take part in the Puja rituals. The Pooja Festivities are undoubtedly a major earning for them year around. Unfortunately the pandemic had affected all- so how would these be spared. Uncertainty and unceasing fear restricted their travel. The BSS Committee sensitively approached them with some major financial help that could suffice some major expenses. Further on The BSS Committee unequivocally donated funds to Idol makers, Drummers, priests, corporation cleaners, the caretakers of the Pandal and many others. Nonetheless this year the situation continues to be the same. The Committee has made a budget provision to donate and help these artisans this year also for their loss due to pandemic.

The Committee consists of some creative members like – Shri. Arun Chattopadhay , Shri Bireshwar Mitra, Shri Subhasis Bagal, Shri Shivaji Mookherjee, Smt. Madhumita Gosh, Smt. Rakhi Chatterjee and Smt. Sujata Paul.
Here’s saluting them for their noble causes and wishing them good luck!

Raunak Singh: the Sikh who leads relief work all over India

The India Saga Saga |

Growing up in a religious household in Cuttack Odisha. Singh was never too far from a gurudwara.

Raunak Singh, founder non-profit aid and relief organization Sikh Aid, has taken it upon himself to create a world that believes in equality and charity. Through Sikh Aid, he has been reaching out to various corners of the earth helping those in need and in turn rekindling people’s trust in humanity.

In today’s intolerant world where judgements are made based on one’s race, religion and beliefs, the crucial need of the hour is the promotion of love and revivement of our faith in mankind. Though this change in attitude cannot happen overnight, even simple acts of kindness can go a long way in attaining a world that believes in equality and charity.

The idea of taking the concept of langar in Sikh community kitchen to people or regions that needed it the most gave birth to Sikh Aid organization in 2017 in Cuttack, Odisha. Singh recalls the moment vividly as it was the during first wave of covid 19 in india when daily wage workers were travelling by foot to their homes due to lockdown.
Singh provided aid to them by providing them langar and drinking water.

Sikh Aid is based on the principals of sikh’a first guru , Guru nanak dev ji which is “Naam jaapo , Kirat karo , Vand chakho”.

In India, Sikh Aid has played a prominent role in providing relief to various areas hit by natural calamities like the Vishakhapatnam cyclone, floods in Jammu and Kashmir, and Gujarat earthquake, among others. “Over the last three to four years, we have developed a fantastic team in India,” says Raunak Singh CEO of Sikh Aid.

Though Sikh Aid is a small organization, with the backing of a large group of volunteers and generous donors, it has organized aid missions all over the India.
Raunak Singh provides a basic idea on how the missions work: Each mission comprises of a volunteer group or aid workers who undergo risk assessments to ensure they are safe when they are travelling. The organization gets access to local contacts like churches or mosques to get a clearer idea on language, cultures and sensitivities of the region. “Once in the country, the team spends days or months working with the local groups to make sure that what they do is effective. We share our experiences on aid work to enhance it.”

Funding comes mainly from All community; Sikh Aid does not receive any government funding. “About 50 percent is funded by the Sikh community from around the world. If it is a major disaster, then the gurudwaras step forward as well,” says Singh, adding that the organization has had a lot of non-Sikh supporters in india.

In the next five years, Sikh Aid aims to develop a larger team of staff and train more individuals and aid workers to do more operations. “Especially longer terms operations in development and education in places like Odisha . What I would like to do in India is health clinics for women and children so that women have the most basic health care. And in Africa, sanitization and water.” Says singh humbly.

In conclusion the selfless Sikh wants “people to follow in the footpath of Sikh Aid so that we build something around the world and give something to the next generation. Build bridges not walls, reach out without having any issues on faith, race or religion and be the humanitarian we are meant to be.”

Hemant Sharma puts in the effort to transforming Indian Sports

The India Saga Saga |

This is an account of youthful exuberance teaming up with passion, hard work, and a dream of transforming Indian sports, primarily grassroots football.

The success story of Hemant Sharma, the co-founder of IT MAGIA along with his co-founder partner Arpit Gupta and partner Actor, Splits villa and MTV Roadies host Rannvijay Singha, is quite remarkable. Working towards building a strong foundation for a harmonious ecosystem of sports for the nation’s kids, youth, and adults, Hemant has come a long way from taking his love for the beautiful game (Football) and finally converting it into a smoothly running sports and events management business.

Over the short span of 6 years through his venture, he moved further to work on an array of tournaments and leagues in the country on varying levels and sectors such as corporate, grassroots, embassies, and many more. The Legends Cup, earlier called Federation Cup which started with just 16 teams in 2012, is today India’s largest corporate football tournament with more than 400 teams participating over a period of 2 days in over 6 states and more than 15 cities.
IT Magia today has worked with over 2500 corporates around India which include the likes of Deloitte, Ernst & Young, Adidas, Red Bull, Budweiser, Huawei to name a few. They hold a place in Limca Book of Records for Organising the largest football corporate tournament in India, and proudly call themselves the creators of the first-ever semi-professional football league in India, Creators Premier League. They also established something called StreetBall to enhance the basketball experience in the country. It soon became a rage and was touted as one of the best basketball amateur tournaments in the country.

Hailing from a traditional air force family, Hemant Sharma always enjoyed sports preferably cricket, only to find his passion in football at the age of 13 when his family moved to Thailand. The journey that started during his teenage days with a simple aim to do something for all sports enthusiasts, turned into the advent of something new back in India at the age of 19. Life took him from being a captain of the college football team at Delhi University to an organizer of his first corporate football event called the Federation Cup.

ITMagia has also become a pioneer in football Infra in the city, currently running more than 11 football centers in the city to promote and develop football. They were the first to launch Adidas The Base in the country which was considered the Mecca of Football. From international coaches to training programs, the vision of ITMagia is to develop grassroots football and one day to see the Indian team play in the World Cup.

Being well-traveled due to his father’s air force job, Hemant had experienced diverse landscapes and cultures, different views and expressions, which contributed to shaping his open-minded personality and a desire to establish himself as an entrepreneur. Thankful to his inspirations i.e his parents, for providing him a life full of opportunities, he as an entrepreneur also envisioned building a platform that established and facilitated a harmonious ecosystem of sports for the country’s kids, youth, and adults.

He combined his passion for sports with his entrepreneurial mind to initiate IT Magia along with his two partners.
“It all began with a clear idea to promote football, which is a team-building sport, in a country driven by cricket. Corporates who rarely get time for physical activities from their busy schedules could now get some time out while playing together as a team. I am thankful to my partner and brother, Arpit to have shared the same vision or else this would not have been possible”- Hemant Sharma.

Hemant aims to grow further and connect the unconventional league format with more sports in years to come. That is the next big target and going by his track record, it’s a sure-shot thing to happen, in the near future.

Bhumik has been invited to multiple private Garba nights to get together with fewer people. People cannot afford to miss his energy and music at this festival. The Garba nights are still eager to see Bhumik perform with all guidelines being in place. Bhumik also mentions, ‘I am overwhelmed with the reaction people have this year. With the restrictions in place and festive at peak people are finding new ways to celebrate Garba nights keeping in mind the new normals.
