Govt: India administered over 60 crore Covid vaccine doses

The India Saga Saga |

India administered 37,593 new coronavirus infections, while the active cases increased marginally to 3,22,327, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on August 25.

An increase of 2,776 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours

The cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country surpassed the 60-crore mark on August 25, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said. India took 85 days to touch the figure of 10 crore. It then took 45 days to cross the 20-crore mark and 29 more days to reach 30 crore, the minister informed.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Wednesday said more than two crore additional COVID-19 vaccine doses are being made available to States this month to vaccinate all school teachers on priority before Teachers’ Day on September 5.

Schools across the country were closed in March last year ahead of a nationwide lockdown to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus infection.

The Centre had allowed the reopening of schools as per the COVID-19 situation in October last year. While several States began partial reopening of schools, there was a complete closure again in April when an aggressive second wave of COVID-19 hit the country.

With an improvement in the COVID-19 situation again, several States have begun reopening schools now, even as concerns have been expressed over the staff and teachers not being completely vaccinated.

“In addition to the plan to provide vaccines to every state this month, more than 2 crore vaccine doses are being made available. We have requested all states to try to vaccinate all school teachers on priority before Teachers’ Day, which is celebrated on September 5,” Mr. Mandaviya said in a tweet in Hindi.

Trinamool Congress urges ECI to hold By-polls, BJP opposes citing Covid

The India Saga Saga |

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, on Monday, urged the Election Commision of India (ECI) to hold the long due By-polls in the state. Citing the improved situation of Covid-19 in the state, she requested the ECI to hold elections for seven constituencies in the state without any delay. So far, there has been no clarification from the ECI in regards to dates of elections.

“We request the ECI that already four months are over since the West Bengal Assembly Elections and it’s our humble request to the Election Commision that they must announce polls dates immediately and do not encroach upon the democratic rights of the citizens. The covid situation in Bengal is totally under control and it’s high time for ECI to announce the dates and allow people their right to cast their vote and elect their MLAs,” Banerjee said.

However, the principal opposition party- BJP has objected to this demand. The state unit has written a letter to the high command in New Delhi stating that holding the By-polls for the vacant seats is not conducive due to the Covid-19 situation in the state. BJP Bengal president, Dilip Ghosh said, “Yes, we wrote a letter to the central leadership objecting to conduct by-polls in the state at this point of time.”

Ghosh further added, “The Trinamool government is not even allowing public meetings and gathering in the state and there are many other restrictions in regards to covid. They are not even declaring the municipal elections dates in the state which are pending for years. Therefore, we felt that it is not conducive to hold the by-polls in the state.”

Currently, there are 6 vacant seats in the state. Dinhata and Santipur assembly seats fell vacant after Nishith Pramanik and Jagannath Sarkar resigned as MLAs after winning their seats to retain their Parliament membership. Similarly, elections could not be held in Samserganj and Jangipur seats due to death of candidates during the recent state polls. Kharda seat also fell vacant after the MLA Kajal Sinha passed away and Gosba too fell vacant due to a death of the winning candidate. The high profile seat of Bhawanipur was left vacant as Sovandeb Chattopadhyay resigned making way for Mamata Banerjee who was defeated in Nandigram.

BJP is also targeting TMC by accusing them of trying to ensure that Banerjee remains on the chair of CM. As per the Indian Constitution, it is mandated that anyone can run the state as CM but he/she will have to get themselves elected as a Member of Legislative Assembly in next six months to retain the chair. In Banerjee’s case the elections must be conducted by November 5, 2021.

However, political analysts feel that ECI could organise the By-polls in September end as October will see commencement of Durga Puja. Escalating their effort in building pressure upon the Election Commision, a 5 member delegation of TMC comprising of MPs Saugata Roy, Sukhendu S Ray, Jawhar Sircar, Sajda Ahmed and Mahua Moitra will be visiting the Election Commision office today in New Delhi to submit their written replies urging to hold early elections.

WHO Official : India May Be Entering Endemic Stage Of Covid

The India Saga Saga |

COVID-19 may be entering a stage of endemicity in India, with low to moderate levels of transmission, according to World Health Organization Chief Scientist Dr. Soumya Swaminathan. When a community learns to live with a virus, it is said to be in the endemic stage. It’s a far cry from the epidemic stage when the virus has taken over a population.

She expressed confidence that the WHO’s technical group will approve Covaxin as one of the organization’s licensed vaccines, adding that this may happen by the middle of September.

“As far as India is concerned that seems to be what is happening and because of the size of India and heterogeneity of population and immunity status in different parts of the country in different pockets, it is very very feasible that the situation may continue like this with ups and downs in different parts of the country, particularly where there is more susceptible population, so those groups who were perhaps less affected by first and second waves or those areas with low levels of vaccine coverage we could see peaks and troughs for the next several months,” Dr. Soumya said.

According to data released on Tuesday by the Union Health Ministry, India added 25,467 new COVID-19 cases, while active cases decreased to 3,19,551, accounting for 0.98 percent of total infections, the lowest level since March 2020.

Sixteen of the 78 Afghan evacuees who arrived in India yesterday tested positive for the coronavirus. All 78 people have been quarantined as a precaution. All 16 returnees are asymptomatic, meaning they don’t show any signs or symptoms of the virus. Because of the increasing security situation following the Taliban’s surprising sweep to power last week, India has increased its efforts to evacuate its residents as well as Afghan citizens fleeing their country.
According to the Maharashtra health department, the number of Delta Plus coronavirus cases has grown to 103 after 27 new infections were detected in the state.

Rahul Gandhi’s scathing attack on Govt says ‘Centre selling India’s asset created over 7 decades’

The India Saga Saga |

Addressing the press on Tuesday, the Wayanad MP accused the government at centre of selling India’s precious assets. The main focus of the press conference was the ‘Asset Monetisation Plan’ which was unveiled by the government on Monday.

The government on Monday launched a 4 year National Monetisation Pipeline which is worth an estimated Rs 6 Lakh crore. The purpose of this plan is to encourage private players by transferring them some rights to operate and generate revenue without solely handing over ownership to them.

Giving a stern warning to the government, Rahul said that the new plan will lead to creation of monopolies and significantly hurt the future employment prospects for the youth. He said the Prime Minister is just working for 2-3 big industrialists and not for the common public.

“The Narendra Modi-led government is in the process of selling India’s crown jewels built by all the previous governments with public money over 7 decades. I want to tell the youth what the country is selling and which asset is going to whom,” Gandhi said at a press conference. The press conference was also attended by senior Congress leader P Chidambaram who  called the plan a ‘Scandal’ and ‘Grand Closing Down Sale’.

Scaling up the attack on the Prime Minister, Rahul said, Modi used to say that Congress had done nothing in 70 years but the assets which are now given away as a gift to these few industrialists were created during their regime during the last 70 years.

Defending the privatization policy of UPA, Gandhi further said, “We are not against privatization but our privatization had a logic. We didn’t privatize strategic industries and we consider railways a strategic industry because it transports lakhs of common people and also employs lots of people.” We were strategically smarter when it comes to privatization as we privatized chronically loss-making industries and the companies which had minimal market share, he added.

Commenting on Railways, Airports and Ports, Gandhi further said “These are strategically given to private players and the whole country knows in whose hands these assets will land up.” He also warned Railway employees of their future. Chidambaram raising the tone of Rahul said “The exercise was done without setting a positive objective and he wondered how can the government go ahead without even consulting the stakeholders like railway unions, port workers etc.

Development projects can give a better support to labour families – Meraj Alam

The India Saga Saga |

The nationwide lockdown and the corona pandemic have put the country’s development plans on hold. Fifty development schemes worth crores of rupees are currently stalled. Apart from canals, dams, roads, bridges, buildings, work has also been stopped in many big projects due to lockdown. Many have been postponed. How many projects under construction have been suspended. Anyway, the pace of construction works in the country remains slow, out of which this closure will have a bad effect on it. The work has also been stuck due to the MPs and MLAs putting their money for the epidemic. Growth rate in the country is at a 30-year low. It has reached. The Covid-19 pandemic has had a direct impact on India’s economy. In such a situation, development will go to the trough.

There is a plan to restart the construction works in the guidelines of the lockdown. So that the economic situation can be improved to some extent. Economic and development are complementary to each other. Today both of these are in balance in the country. That all the villages of the country will be connected by roads. Now that a new challenge has come before the country, there is no possibility of it in such a situation. The impact of Covid is on education, tourism, culture, entertainment, business. Students’ examinations have stopped, tourist places are closed, Teej festivals have to be celebrated by being closed at home. Due to the observance of social distance on the occasion of marriage, people are postponing the marriage, which has affected the business. The Covid-19 pandemic has started giving birth to a new kind of culture. The development of technology is a result of this. Video conferencing has been seen for the first time through new, modern apps. Internet services have increased. In the country, more than half of the work is being done sitting at home, using technology. Online studies are being done as well as online examinations are being prepared.

This epidemic is giving rise to many problems on one hand, solutions are also being found. India’s future is going to be smart. The way India has handled the increasing cases of Corona and has shown its self-reliance is commendable. The kind of situation prevailing in the country, at such a time, all the youth of India came forward with innumerable technical ideas. One of which was Meraj Alam, born in Darbhanga, Bihar and grew up in Mumbai. Meraj Alam has worked in the digital world for more than 2 years. After which he has realized that the future of the country is going to be made with the help of digital and technology. It will be surprising to know that Meraj Alam is only 20 years old but at such a young age, he has started shaping his career, although today he has gone a long way in this.

Meraj Alam believes that the whole world has been affected by Corona and in such a situation, if the development and construction works run by the government are started, then a large section will get employment again. Today once again life is returning on track in the country but construction work can play an important role in providing relief to the rural laborers. Even today, more than half the population in the village is dependent on agriculture or labor. Now that the market and industries have started, in such a situation, by starting these construction schemes, the pace of development works of the government will be accelerated and these families will also be able to cooperate.
