Sromona alleviates suffering of people through her humanitarian approach

The India Saga Saga |

Getting up and doing something is the best way to avoid feeling hopeless. Waiting for good things to happen is a loss of time so instead of doing that, fill the world and yourself with hope. So one must go out and make good things happen as soon as possible. Working towards the same, She has been constantly working for the development of the people by reaching the remote areas of the country.

The journey of Sromona started when she believed that helping others comes from within rather than from being exposed to other people’s grief. However, some people are born with this trait, while others feel driven to look away from other people’s suffering when they observe it.

An architect by profession, she has done freelancing for the past six years and now plans to explore some other field of her interest. Also having a keen interest in art therapy she has started taking classes from Udemy, post completion of the course her plan is to enter an MBA program in Marketing which will strengthen her career path and help her envisage & have a master- plan for herself.

Helping out people from a very young age she began social work by helping her uncle’s NGO named Liluah Nivedita Sangha, North Howrah, which is widely known to people for their tremendous work throughout the year. But her direct involvement began in the last few years and within no time she gathered a group of people divided into multiple help groups to reach out to different needs and areas of tangible and intangible requirements.

Talking about the feeling, Sromona said, “ I believe, those who honestly like to help less fortunate, help others anyways and not for anything in return or fame or money. When I started my individual activities years back, never felt like the works need highlights or to put the same in social media. But this year, when the entire nation has been going through a grim time, from the beginning of March due to the second wave of the COVID-19 outbreak, there was no other option to reach out to people except the social platforms. Also, what I felt was, using the social platform has helped many others to come forward and encouraged them to start their own help groups.”

Last year, during the first outbreak of COVID-19, she and her husband Sayan volunteered to aid as many people as they could in Delhi, beginning with the neighbourhood where they lived. They attempted to assist migrant workers with food and drink and extended our hands to a few NGOs, working with Smile Foundation in New Delhi. They sought to assist them financially this year because they were physically stranded in Kolkata owing to the closure.

After the second wave of COVID-19, West Bengal was hit by a national calamity known as the YAAS Cyclone (similar to the ‘Amphan’ cyclone last year), which inundated numerous villages in rural Bengal, leaving no dwellings or agricultural areas behind.

After contacting a local volunteer from a certain zone, they formed a team and established a relief camp with a variety of foods, medicines, and other necessities. During the COVID wave, they were all awake for the last two to three months, helping and providing aid/help to asylum seekers. Their phones continued to ring at all hours of the day and night, and they only managed to sleep for one or two hours per day on an alternate route between us.

Managing multiple tasks at once is time-consuming and needs patience, but if you are truly passionate or determined, it is simple to keep going for the long haul. However, how we manage ourselves, our method of work, and our systems all play a role.

Due to her constant hard work to help people and make her own identity since 2018, she has been awarded: ‘Lead Boutique Store from her own production house Studio FIVE, Kolkata in 2019- by Prestigious Team IIBA Bangalore.

‘Lead Women Entrepreneur NITI, 2020’ and was recognized by CAT publications like ZEE News, ANI, Yahoo News, New Delhi Times, Business Standard, Pashimbanga Khobor, Punjab LIVE, MP Chronicle, Maharashtra Barta and to name a few.

‘Lead Women Business personal, from New Delhi, in 2020” – by IIBA, BrandVoltz Production.

‘REMARKABLE WOMEN AWARDS, Jaipur in 2021 to be the owner of women photographer in the category of BnW Nature Photography, from New Delhi.’

Passion is essential, but keeping the ball rolling and spreading our wings demands a disciplined approach and adequate planning. But, at the end of the day, it all comes down to one simple question: whether putting a smile on a stranger’s face is enough to motivate you to get up every morning and do it all over again. This thing keeps Soromona motivated to work for their welfare.

We are obliged and happy to be able to publish her journey and achievements.

“Never give up!”, manifests Engineer turned blogger, Rachna Singh

The India Saga Saga |

In this changing world, there has been a slight change in the perception of how we see women around us. In the modern-day, initiatives and plans have been implemented to ensure that females are treated equally with men. Their birth should be celebrated, and they should be given equal rights and opportunities, notably in terms of education and work. Gaining recognition, Rachna Singh a software engineer by profession and lifestyle consultant has been a true inspiration to many women around her.

Hailing from a farmer’s family she has faced a financial crisis while she was growing up. To complete her studies she took an education loan and with that, she proved to be the first woman engineer from her village. This was one of the biggest achievement of her as it was her first step towards achieving her goals.

Completing her schooling from a hind-medium school, her childhood was not that idyllic for her since she couldn’t get enough of it. She didn’t want to spend the rest of her life in the hamlet simply to marry in her twenties, though. She was always looking for new ways to attempt new things and push the boundaries.

From being an engineer to a fitness blogger, her journey was not easy as it seems to be, there were several constraints and limitations. However, many people chastised her when she first began blogging, what she’s wearing, why is she doing this. These were the only inquiries her father received from family members which made her feel as if she has chosen the wrong field.

Due to this, Rachna wept and felt guilty many times as she was putting in so much effort and receiving criticism in return. But with her never giving up attitude she continued to pursue it with more dedication and what added more to her confidence was her parent’s support. Rachna’s achievements are the product of her hard work, as well as the blessings and unwavering support of her parents.

Being a true motivation to all the girls out there who may not have access to many resources and assistance. She suggests that one should never give on their aspiration, if you desire something, there will always be a way to obtain it. You just have to work for it.

With a positive attitude towards life, she is an established blogger influencing many young women around her with the constant work she is providing through social media platforms.

Fuel prices hike in India for 38th time

The India Saga Saga |

Despite international benchmark Brent crude prices falling by $1.61 a barrel or 2.06 percent at the Friday close, compared to its peak of $77.16 on Monday, fuel prices hike for the 38th time in 68 days on Saturday, with petrol prices rising by 35 paise per liter and diesel prices rising by 26 paise per liter.

Since May 4, a day after the results of five assembly elections was announced, India’s domestic fuel tariffs have increased by 10.51 per liter for petrol and 9.15 per liter for diesel. In New Delhi, petrol costs 100.91 rupees a liter, while diesel costs 89.88 rupees.

While the state-run Indian Oil Corporation’s (IOC) fuel rates in Delhi serve as a national benchmark, retail pricing for the two fuels varies by location due to differences in state taxes and local levies. In five metros — Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, and Bangalore – petrol prices have already surpassed $100 per liter.

In Mumbai, a liter of petrol costs 106.93 rupees and a liter of diesel costs 97.46 rupees. The highest fuel prices have been recorded in Ganganagar, Rajasthan, where petrol costs $112.24 per liter and diesel costs $103.15.

Pump prices are also high, according to officials at state-run oil marketing businesses, since companies are recouping prior revenue losses, including the 66 days since February 27 when rates were not hiked due to assembly elections in four states and one Union territory.

During the 66-day rate freeze, state-run retailers dropped politically sensitive fuel and diesel pricing by 77 paise and 74 paise per liter in four minor increments, respectively. However, the benefits to customers were rapidly negated in the first four rounds of rate hikes, which began on May 4.

Bhushita Ahuja: Helping with the queening of the pawns

The India Saga Saga |

Bhushita Ahuja, a passionate young 16-year-old girl takes it upon herself to empower the well-deserving kids coming from humble backgrounds through chess. Her foundation, Samvedna, teaches 500+ underprivileged kids chess from across 7 states in India. Her story is an inspiring one, the way she transformed from a sportsperson to a change-maker, fuelled by her passion and desire to give back to the game that had shaper her personality. Bhushita embodies the fact that age is just a number and she acquires personal satisfaction and a sense of fulfilment from her noble actions and as a believer of karma, feels it’s her duty to give back to society.

Bhushita started playing chess when she was 7 years old and the game was taught by her mom who had read the benefits of teaching kids this sport in a parenting book. Being an individual who loves to challenge herself, Bhushita soon found her immersed in the world of the 64 squares, joined an academy to learn the game professionally and got involved in tournaments. She won the Delhi State U-17 women championship in 2017, played for Delhi in Nationals at Jalandhar and represented the country in Teplice Open and Commonwealth games. Bhushita would often spend 8-10 hours a day practicing chess. As you may have realised, chess had become a part of her system and she was deeply passionate about the game. However, when she entered 10th grade, she had to make a very difficult decision. It was either chess or studies because both required a lot of dedication and it wasn’t possible to give both fields equal justice together. As she was only 15 at that time, leaving behind academics was not that encouraged by those around her and therefore with a heavy heart she decided to pursue chess as just a hobby. But it was like she had stepped in too far to be able to back out so easily and that’s where the idea of Samvedna came in her mind. A feeling, a desire to give back to the society through chess., an initiated that she started with her younger brother, Bhavik.

As a background, her mom is a full time social worker and she still remembers, she took her to a slum when she was 10 and made me play chess with a few kids there. Bhushita says, “I was playing against a boy who was 3-4 years older than me and around 20-30 people had gathered around to watch the game. That moment stayed with me and it is what inspired to me to target the underprivileged kids and teach them chess! Not only would chess help them develop essential life skills and have a positive affect own their academics but it’s also not a bad career path. “

They had decided the cause and step one was to gain the necessary funds to execute the initiative. They planned to organise a tournament to launch Samvedna and so, preparations for the same began. They got ONGC to sponsor us, spread the message in all their chess contacts and invited Gautam Gambhir and the Sports Minister, Kiren Rijiju as chief guests to the event. On 14th and 15th December 2019, the tournament took place at The Banyan Tree School, New Delhi with a participation of over 250 players. Well, making this event a success was not exactly a piece of cake for them… there were several challenges they faced in their path. For example, in the first week of marketing, they had 0 registrations and we were utterly shocked, on the brink of cancelling the event. However, they took their own chess learnings into consideration and just like the pawn doesn’t turn back, they decided they’ll not give up and instead change their strategies. So they started personally calling up parents and convincing them to make their children take part and gladly this worked. End all be all lesson was- Where there’s a will, there’s always a way. After the tournament they started 2 physical centres in the slums of Delhi and then were hit by Covid… the classes had to be shut and they were unsure what to do. But then they thought, ‘So what if things have shifted online? On the brighter side, if we start our classes digitally, we don’t have to limit ourselves to a specific geographical region, opportunities will be limitless. That’s what we did, got 20+ coaches from across the country to teach students in various regional languages, We collaborated with several NGOs and were able to educate 350+ underprivileged kids from across 7 states in India and the journey goes on…

Bhushita feels sports are essential for all round personal growth and therefore she envisions establishing a healthy sporting culture in the country. She wants to promote chess among girls as she feels there’s a stark gap in that sector and she also wants to introduce chess to senior citizens cause it poses several benefits for them. Bhushita feels when you give, you get more- give opportunities to those who require it and get respect and internal joy in return. Apart from chess Bhushita has several other feathers in her cap. She is an author, having written the book, ‘Open Your Wardrobe for Answers’ based on clothing psychology and she is also a motivational speaker- having addresses large corporates like Tech Mahindra and IRCTC as well as several colleges internationally. Bhushita feels dreams are what don’t let you sleep at night and when you really have the right intension coupled with the right kind of motivation, you are unstoppable. The ‘queening of the pawn’, a popular chess rule that allows the weakest piece on the board to become the strongest piece on the board- metaphorically represents what Bhushita is trying to achieve through her efforts. One drop at a time makes an ocean and even one source of light is enough to navigate through a dark tunnel… Bhushita’s story inspires us to be torch-bearers of change and create a positive impact that will be remembered for years to come.

Tata Tele Business Services Helps The Transition To Technology-Aided Digital Education System

The India Saga Saga |

Technology service providers play an important role as technology changes education and the educators strive to respond to the changes in this Covid-19 pandemic-induced new normal, says Mr. Raj Borulkar, Head Solution, Enterprise Business, Tata Tele Business Services.

Tata Tele Business Services (TTBS), India’s leading enterprise connectivity solution provider, organised a webinar, through one of its leading customer programme, CXO Roundtable, on the changing trends in education and the use of technology for teaching and learning  with the theme: Reset to grow with Tech Advantage, on June 22, 2021.

The panel of speakers included Mr. Mahendra Tiwari, GM, SME Operation, Tata Tele Business Services, Dr. Nanda Gopal, Director, Xavier Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship, Ms. Anusha Ravi, CEO of Park group of institutions, Mr. Raj Borulkar, Head, Solution,  Enterprise Business, Tata Tele Business Services and Mr Silambarasan, Senior Coordinator Isha Vidya Group of Schools, anchored by Mr. Anmol Garg, Founder, Sales5X. the talk is the Knowledge Partner.

In his welcome address, Mr. Tiwari set the precedent for the discussion. He said, this event is being organized to understand how technologies have been changing the ways businesses in general, and education in particular, are done in this new normal to not only survive, but also to thrive converting all adversities into opportunities. He suggested to the panelists to share their knowledge and experience on how technologies have changed the education sector, and how to capitalize on these large opportunities which can help the stakeholders to attain market leadership.

The key points of discussions were on the changes technology brings to education and the education industry’s response to this new normal, the new models and trends in the digitalised education and the role technology service providers can play.

Dr. Nandagopal said the onset of Covid-19 brought about a technological revolution in the education system, especially in teaching and evaluation or examination. Technology was already there. But most of the teachers were not aware of them or were not skilled enough to make use of them.

“We who were using only chalk and board technology were able to understand how to use Zoom and other digital systems and to deliver. Around March 23, 2020 we were almost at the end of the course. We had only 15 to 20 days of classes to go. But we took Zoom. And immediately we started the classes and students also responded. And of course, the magic challenge came for our evaluation system. We did that too with the effective use of the learning management system (LMS) platform for conducting examinations online.”

Ms. Anusha Ravi said what was thought to be accomplished in 15 years was done in 15 days; everything was up and running in all the institutions. “Many industries came to a standstill but education alone survived with the help of digital technologies. But there are challenges going forward. But overall, it has been interesting and very rapid learning and adaptation of technology into education. I think the whole industry should be proud of what we have done,” she said.

Mr. Borulkar said the teachers and college management moved very quickly to adapt to the new technology. “I think teachers have also undergone a lot of learning in digital technology in this process,” he said.

The digital technology also covers digital literacy which encompasses the simple student tasks such as creating classroom presentations or more collaborative work, such as video clips, creation and the posting online of mind maps, a new buzzword among students, and collaborative learning.

Digital technology has taken teaching and learning from the confines of the brick and mortar classrooms to across the world. Now it is possible to bring in people from anywhere in the world for taking classes, workshops and seminars, which is not possible in a traditional way of education, Borulkar said.

He said the future course of education will be a hybrid model of traditional classrooms and technology-driven teaching and learning.

Dr. Nandagopal also endorsed this and said in the West several schools and universities follow the hybrid model where there is a lot of creativity among the students also. There will be global sharing of content through technologies like YouTube. Harvard lectures can be presented in Indian classrooms.

According to Mr. Borulkar, several new trends have emerged in the concept of education and the systems of learning and teaching. Some of the new trends in education in the digital age are blended learning of direct teacher instruction and directed student activities, personalised learning, where the educator customise and personalise the content according to the need of the student, online learning, emotional and social learning, and project-based learning.

Role of Service Providers

According to Mr. Borulkar, for ages education did not have a new model. Now there are disruptive changes, though very gradual and bit by bit. “The classroom has just gone digital, it is not yet fully digital. Instead of chalk and board, they are now using cameras and other tools. Maybe only 50% of the education is happening digitally,” he said.

In this technological transformation of class rooms, teaching and learning, the role of the technological service providers are very critical in applying technology as it should be and as it is meant to be.

Mr. Tiwari said the  Service provider can step in to make education accessible through digital means for all teachers & students, irrespective of their location by creating right infrastructure to integrate, secure and manage students and student’s data efficiently. He added that “collaboration is going to play a very vital role” and adoption of solutions like Cloud, collaborations tools, content delivery network, AI & IoT, data management solutions, customized assessment tools can help institutes to better engage with the students and give them seamless learning experience.

Tata Teleservices has taken several initiatives in during the pandemic to empower enterprises with innovative and reliable solutions that significantly boost their competitiveness in the market. The company has strengthened its portfolio of enterprise grade solutions such as cloud-based solutions, collaboration solutions, IoT, data management and cyber security solutions across industries like ecommerce, edtech, banking and finance, healthcare, IT/ITES. These solutions appropriately address the needs arising out of a distributed and remote working environment and enable enterprises to maintain “business continuity” with the utmost efficiency and productivity.
