Covid-19 continues to claim human lives and simultaneously cripple the economy. Daily wage earners with marginal savings have temporarily lost their jobs. They are unable to access food and essential items. Women who were already facing domestic abuse are grappling with increased violence. Senior citizens, at higher risks of complications and fatality, face acute challenges of their own. Amidst all this, social workers like young Amaan Quasim have emerged like true warriors, out to rescue millions of people bereft of sustenance.

The not so prosperous ‘Kathputli Community’, majorly involved in making and showcasing puppets are the frontrunners of the cultural heritage imbibed in their art and profession. These poor people faced unprecedented loss during the pandemic and were forced to shut shop. This left them wanting the basic necessities of life. But their lives changed when Amaan came to the forefront to help these individuals meet their daily ends. From providing ration kits, food to every other essential item, Amaan brought a ray of optimism in their lives.

A renowned entrepreneur by profession, Amaan is quite popular among TV personalities as well as Bollywood celebrities for his ground-breaking work while shooting promotional videos for actors, TV serials, and various other businesses.

Despite being a busy man himself, Amaan tries his best to devote time to this social cause. In his own words, “Due to limited gatherings and crowds, these communities are forced to shut down their art and work. Their frugal incomes are already gone and they are forced to go hungry due to limited support from the authorities. Watching their plight made me want to do something to give them a better life as these people possess the impeccable talent and are a prized possession for the country”.

“Despite the provisions made by the government, there is still a need to do a lot for such badly hit minority communities of the country. I feel immense pleasure and gratitude in being a part of this mission to provide succor to these poor people and it is deeply satisfying for me,” he further added.

Being an entrepreneur and simultaneously working for the betterment of the downtrodden, Mr. Amaan has proved himself a true example for other youngsters. From beginning his career as a senior executive to running his own successful business, Amaan has been creating waves in the City of Dreams.

Among his more significant achievements in life is his NGO, Rope – Ek Dor Udaan Ki, which is doing a yeoman’s job in the rehabilitation of orphan kids. Amaan is also a member of another NGO, Human for Humanity, which creates awareness and removes the stigma attached to women’s health issues such as menstruation. In addition to these, Amaan is also associated with the All India Sufi Council as its Secretary. This allows him to participate in a number of social activities organized to uplift the needy sections in society.

It is this warmth and respect that Amaan has earned in the entertainment industry that sets him apart from other youngsters and puts him with those who are working really hard to create a better world for everyone.

Delhi is the 1st Union Territory to Announce Covid-19 Vaccination Schedule

New Delhi: The country’s capital has announced the first phase of Covid-19 vaccination drive starting from January 16, 2021. In the first stage of the vaccination drive, priority will be given to frontline workers including the healthcare workers. 

The Centre has announced January 16 as the day for the rollout of the long-awaited vaccine. The vaccine got the green signal from drug regulators last Sunday. After the launch date announcement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted on his official handle, “On 16th January, India takes a landmark step forward in fighting COVID-19. Starting that day, India’s nationwide vaccination drive begins. Priority will be given to our brave doctors, healthcare workers, frontline workers including safai karamcharis.”

The massive vaccination drive will be managed with the help of CoWIN (Covid Vaccine Intelligence Network) app, which is yet to be launched. CoWIN will track the individual vaccine beneficiaries, more than 79 lakh of whom have been registered on the platform. It will also provide real-time information on vaccine stocks and storage temperatures.

Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said, “Healthcare workers will be vaccinated in the first phase only in hospitals”. In addition, Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain has announced, “The coronavirus vaccine will be administered at 89 sites in the capital out of which  36 are government hospitals and 53 are private hospitals.”

During the first two rounds, about three lakh healthcare workers and six lakh frontline workers including the police and civil defense personnel will be vaccinated. Post this phase, approximately 42 lakh people above the 50-year age group and those below with comorbidities like diabetes, heart ailments, and other chronic conditions will be administered the vaccine dosage.

The Centre has already held three dry runs – two of them across the country — to test the vaccine delivery system across 4,895 sites in 33 states and union territories. The third dry-run was last on 8 January 2021.

Inaugurating the 16th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas convention through virtual mode, Mr Modi said that India used to import PPE kits, masks, ventilators and testing kits from outside but “today our nation is self-reliant.’’

 

Prime Minister Modi’s remarks gain significance as the global efforts are directed towards  vaccination to curb the spread of the viral disease.

 

The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas convention is the flagship event of the Ministry of External Affairs and provides an important platform to engage and connect with overseas India, according to an official release. Speaking about ongoing efforts and campaign in India to empower the poor in the country, the Prime Minister said that it was being talked about globally now.

 

With an obvious reference to the violence in the U.S. where the process of transition of power is underway after the defeat of President Donald Trump, Mr Modi said that people had said that India will break and democracy is impossible in the country.

 

“But the truth is that India stand together with a strong and vibrant democracy today,’’ said Prime Minister Modi.

 

Dwelling upon his government’s efforts to eliminate corruption, the Prime Minister said: “Today, India is using technology and end corruption. Money worth lakhs and crores are directly being credited to account of beneficiaries.’’

 

In his remarks at the inaugural session of the convention, External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar recalled that the convention was part of a tradition that began two decades ago when the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee envisioned a comprehensive framework for Pravasi outread. “In the years that have passed, these initiatives have been strengthened by a range of other activities. And even more, transformed by the very unique bonding that Prime Minister  Modi has established with the diaspora,’’ he said.

 

Noting that this year’s convention is taking place against the backdrop of the devastating Covid pandemic, the Minister said that these unprecedented difficulties have only further strengthened India’s bonds with Pravasis.

 

“This was expressed in the Vande Bharat Mission that brought more than 3.5 million of our people home. It was equally visible in the support we provided for the return from India of those of other nationalities, to 120 countries. And not least, it was seen in the medicines that we sent to 150 nations, many with large Pravasi communities,’’ he said.
