As we age there are some things that we tend to let fall by the wayside. Dental health is one amongst the many that tend to be forgotten. Seniors are more likely to suffer from a host of oral health issues resulting from the natural aging process due to their inability to provide adequate dental hygiene care for themselves. Since dental health is connected to the overall health, itÂs important that senior loved ones have someone to remind or help them keep their oral health a priority.
Mumbai-based cosmetic surgeon Dr Kshama Chandan states itÂs important to treat this age group with adequate understanding about their physical, social and psychological issues. She is of the opinion that a dentist must be aware of the patientÂs prescribed medications as well as the drug regimen of the patient before coming up with a treatment plan.
When asked why most of the senior citizens face difficulty in maintaining oral hygiene, the dentist said, ÂIt is because of the loss of dexterity, especially in the hands due to several age-related issues. It becomes difficult for them to even grasp a toothbrush for some due to which their oral health suffers.Â
Age doesnÂt always negatively affect oral health on its own. Certain medical conditions, such as arthritis in the hands and fingers may make brushing or flossing teeth difficult to perform. At the same time, many are also genetically predisposed to dental problems or simply forget to brush while suffering from cognitive health disorders.
Moreover, a poor vision of senior citizens can also become a problem in maintaining proper oral hygiene. Patients avoid cleaning what they canÂt see which furthermore deteriorates the condition of the teeth. Some of the most common oral health problems senior citizens face are reduced saliva flow, dry mouth, root decay, gum disease, tooth loss, diminished sense of taste, oral thrush, denture-induced stomatitis and plaque accumulation in the teeth.
All of these reasons make senior dental care a priority, which is why the elderly needs to follow certain guidelines to keep their teeth and gums healthy:
* Brushing twice a day with a toothbrush with soft bristles and fluoride-containing toothpaste.* Using an electric toothbrush.* Cleaning between the teeth once a day with floss or any other interdental cleaner.* Rinsing with an antiseptic mouthwash once or twice a day.* If full or partial dentures are being used, clean them on a daily basis. (Take the dentures out of your mouth for at least four hours every day, and know that itÂs best to remove them at night keeping them soaked in water.)* Quit smoking – Besides the risk for lung cancers and other medical hazards, smoking can cause gum diseases, tooth decay, tooth mobility and eventually tooth loss.* Visit the dentist on a regular basis for a complete dental check-up, cleaning and oral examination.* Eat a healthy, well-balanced diet that includes dairy and high-fibre products.

Anurag Halder – A young boy from a small town engraved his name in Mumbai Music Industry
In this generation every musician dreams that someday their songs would be featured in National Platforms, someday they can reach thousands of people with their music, Today there is a story of a boy who had also dreamt about it and today he has made it happen. Anurag Halder, the boy from a small town of Kolkata, came to Mumbai in 2013 with so many dreams. But in a way of success, if the failure doesn’t come it wouldn’t be a successful success, I guess. In his story, there were thousands of failures. He started to participate in reality shows, but at a certain stage, he stopped that and started working for his Independent Music. His songs like Faasla on the National Platform were quite successful but he was not satisfied with that. He started to give his music a taste which is not till then in this music industry. So in the year 2019, he sat with 4 songs and composed them in that way he never did. And then it happened to him.
In the year 2020 and just two days back his song Kashtiya has been released from one of the largest Audio Label of India, Zee Music Company. In just three days it got thousands of love and respect.
He said in an interview, “The things I have faced in my life, turned into the tunes and lyrics of my songs. The more your heartbreaks, the more you can compose good tunes. But yeah, one thing which I followed only, just to never think this is the end. I still remember my father used to tell me that “One should extend his/her leg as per the length of the bed-sheet” but then I used to think that how if I extend my leg more and buy a long bedsheet which can be adjusted with my legs. And I started working hard for that. It means you have to dream big if you want to achieve big and put all of your hard efforts into that and believe me someday you will definitely do an interview like this and say the same words like me.”
On asking about his upcoming projects, he said, “A few more releases are there this year. And currently, I am working for some regional works. There are three more music videos that might be released this month but have postponed due to this lockdown and maybe it would be visible by September.”
Behind the doors of lockdown thrives domestic violence and abuse
The entire country has been in a month-long lockdown as a protective measure against the spread of pandemic COVID-19. However, there is a shadow pandemic that endangers the lives and well-being of women and children at homes in India today: domestic violence and abuse.
Besides its impact on social welfare and economy, COVID-19 has a darker and more worrisome consequence: a spike in calls to domestic violence helplines across the country. The National Commission for Women (NCW) registered 587 domestic violence complaints between March 23 and April 16, which is a 50% increase as compared to pre-lockdown days.
The grimmest situation to worry about is that our lockdowns will end sooner or later, but violence against women will not. Domestic violence and abuse have been an ongoing threat to the health and well-being of women and children in India. As per the National Family Health Survey-4 (2015-16) (NFHS-4), 30 percent of women in India in the age group of 15-49 have experienced physical violence since the age of 15. About 31 percent of married women have experienced physical, sexual, or emotional violence by their spouses. This is further substantiated by the Crime in India Report 2018 by the Indian National Crime Research Bureau (NCRB) which states that a woman is subjected to an act of domestic violence every 4.4 minutes.
This situation is not limited to India, as there has been several global reports of spike in domestic violence across countries like China, US, UK, Australia among others, during this pandemic. Historically speaking, times of economic downturn, wars and conflicts and natural disasters are linked to a multitude of risk factors for increased violence against women and children. Epidemics have been no exception. During the 2015 Ebola outbreak in West Africa, an Âepidemic of Ârape, sexual assault and violence against women and girls was reported by several international publications.
The confinement due to lockdown is fostering tension and stress at home, creating an excuse and environment for abusers to demonstrate unrestrained violence and abuse behind closed doors.
Factors driving violence against women in the current times
While the questions of immunity from COVID-19 pandemic, its impact and severity on communities remains uncertain, it is clear that families across India and the world will feel the economic shock and repercussions of this deadly disease. Drop in earning levels, food insecurity, job uncertainty, health and safety risks etc. will lead to increased anxiety, which in turn will have a multifold bearing on the well-being of women and children in the household.
With quarantines, social isolation, and limitations on freedom of movement, as per several reports, pandemics and health emergencies, including SARS, Ebola, Swine Flu, etc. have been associated with an increase in women and childrenÂs day-to-day exposure to potential perpetrators. Limitations to reach out to friends, family, and support groups during these times make women more vulnerable.
These are really difficult times to support and respond to the distress calls of domestic violence as institutions are already under tremendous strain from the demands of dealing with the pandemic. The police and healthcare providers are already overwhelmed and understaffed; this coupled with domestic violence shelters being full or limited in its operations, only further worsens the situation for help seekers.
While the issue of violence against women needs a larger debate and solution-finding, in the current context, it is important for Centre and State governments to collaborate and facilitate better support and access to protection to women and children. Infact recently, the Delhi High Court sought responses of the Centre and the Delhi government on a plea seeking measures to safeguard victims of domestic violence and child abuse amidst the COVID-19 lockdown.
The helpline numbers and NCW WhatsApp numbers are definitely proving to be useful. However, there could be several women who may be unable to seek help through a phone because they are locked in with their abusers. Hence, new and innovative mechanisms need to be developed to support those in need. There are some noteworthy global initiatives that the Indian government could take a cue from. The French government is encouraging victims to discreetly seek help at nearby pharmacies and supermarkets who in turn will inform the local authorities. The Italian and German governments are making thousands of hotel rooms and guesthouses accessible to victims at subsidized costs to quarantine themselves in safety.
Sonal Jindal Feels COVID-19 Will Force Fashion Industry To Go Sustainable
Covid-19 pandemic has played havoc with the Indian fashion industry. With supply chains choked and workforce absent, the global industry is looking at Âsales being down 30%-40%. Most of the companies are trying to survive by focusing on protecting their employees and their liquidity. In a time like this, MEDUSAÂs Founder Sonal Jindal warns that Corona will force the fashion industry to go sustainable. There are no two ways about it.
The Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) has predicted that almost 65% of apparel exporters payments, to the tune of $2 billion, are in limbo right now. This is going to create a rather large hole in the pocket of the Indian apparel industry post-COVID-19 crisis.
In such a situation, the only way to move past this huge wall is a sustainable model of development, says Sonal Jindal. This award-winning businesswoman feels that there is going to be a huge economic impact of Corona on the fashion industry in India and abroad. However, she advises, ÂInstead of being bogged down by all this, we must move forward with innovative solutions, one of which is rebuilding a more sustainable fashion industry.Â
So far, we have not taken into account the cost of fashion for our planet. This attitude has to change, feels Sonal and she says all of us will have to reaffirm sustainability, reduce the impact on the environment, and amplify social responsibility.
As per a study of Boston Consulting Group, SAC, and the Higg Co., titled, ÂRebuilding a More Sustainable Fashion Industry After COVID-19, more than 30% of the fashion business in 2020 will be wiped out due to reduced or canceled orders. That is not all, because there is an Âimpending economic crisis after all this will be over, says the study.
In a similar vein, Sonal Jindal cautions too, ÂThe stakeholders of fashion have to adopt sustainability as the mantra of the day and value sustainable partnerships if it has to reach the other side of the pandemic with the least amount of damage to its coffers.Â
Today, the most significant worry for the sector is backsliding on progress made so far but that can be addressed if the Indian fashion and apparel industries come together to pitch in for a safe and sustainable future of this business.
Done with sockets. Whats next for wireless cans?
Gone are those days when a Bluetooth headphone pair could simply let you enjoy wireless connectivity. They are more than that now and the current market trend for wireless headphones is all about enhancing consumer experience globally. Through adding more and more innovative features to stand out in the ever-evolving scenario, new brands are coming to the fore offering a tough competition to the stalwarts. Every brand is trying to cater more to the needs of on-the-go people for whom connection speed, better looks, and improved noise-canceling modes with low energy consumption matter. Adapting to the recent drift of moving towards advanced technology is one Indian brand  World of PLAY.
Technological factors defining World of PLAY as a key market player for Bluetooth headphones
If you havenÂt yet checked out the World of PLAY Bluetooth headset, PLAYGO BH70, here is a brief list of features why they are quite ahead of the curve:
- Incorporating AI technology: There are not many AI headsets in the current market. Artificial Intelligence is also something new in the world of hearing aids. The Washington-based Hearing Industries Association, Inc., mentions that an AI hearing aid can detect the environment and learn oneÂs listening preferences in real-time. If there is a noisy environment, the aids automatically, through machine learning, switch to offer more clarity to people talking near them.
The PLAYGO BH70 wireless headphones specifically focus on customizing the listening experience for each individual through this similar AI algorithm. The fact is everyoneÂs hearing is different and with age, some audio frequencies become less audible. Machine learning might as well be the next step in adapting to the different environments in real-time. With these headphones by World of PLAY, the AI algorithm makes sure the listener gets to listen to every frequency in the audible spectrum. To make it even convenient for the users to understand this technology, they come with an additional app, PLAYGO. The app shows the frequencies the AI algorithm optimises and it can also be switched off. If you tap on the Confirm button on the app, it will remember your specific preferences the next time you put them on.
- Infrared sensor: Along with the advanced AI algorithm, these headphones come with an infrared sensor that activates as soon as you put them down. The music automatically pauses and you can resume listening right where you left off. This makes it highly convenient to use with your busy lifestyle.
- Hybrid noise cancellation: In the current market trend, studies show that the budget Active Noise Cancelling headphones are going through a massive decline. This is the cue for the new brands to focus on delivering exceptionally high quality to stay in the game. Pioneers in the market such as Sony offer incredible Active Noise Cancelling with its proprietary Adaptive Sound Control that, in a nutshell, can adapt to any surrounding. Following the same trend, the PLAYGO BH70 headphones offer superior noise-cancelling by attaching four different microphones that constantly check the outside noise. The app also allows you to turn On/Off or set levels of its Hybrid Active Noise Cancelling Feature if you are at home with no noisy surroundings.
The competition is soaring high when it comes to the growing demands in ease-of-use and quality. World of PLAY offers innovative wireless audio devices such as the PLAYGO BH70 at an exceptional mid-range price, which alone beats the market scenario.

FUTUTRE OF PROGRAMMING: POST-COVID.
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused partial or even complete lockdown at several places across the globe. This has forced people to reorient their lifestyles and stay indoors. People have adopted work from the home culture with the passing time. But with no end to the pandemic soon, the professionals are visualizing this phase as the opportunity to upskill yourself and be ready for the coming future. Many of the organizations are encouraging their staff to learn new and advanced technologies either through the internal Learning Management System or through other sources. With the bad phase still to arrive, employability becomes the biggest challenge and the survivors will be the winners. Keeping this in mind, virtual learning is going to open the doors of the self-learning mechanism which will be the game-changer in the coming times.
As the word technology defines a vast spectrum, it becomes difficult to understand, which technology needs to be adopted for survival in such a volatile world. In todayÂs era, there are close to 700 programming languages out of which 245 are notable. Choosing one of them to learn is the most difficult task!!!
To understand the difficulty of a programmer in-depth, we put across the same question to Rahul Sharma, CEO, INVENTATEQ. The first thing that he mentioned in this regard is that coding can be done in any of the programming languages, but the logic is the key to develop a good and effective program. He said that the first and the most important thing of a program is the logic behind it along with the flow chart. Once we have the correct flow chart, then any coder would be able to code the same in the computer language. As per him, programming language is just like any other language and it is used to express the code for the computer in logical ways to perform the desired flow of instructions to achieve the correct output.
Investigating more to understand the language to choose, Mr Sharma said that every individual has his capability to learn and understand. At first, it is very much evident to understand the languages that you are currently using in your professional life then you must focus on the same and try to upgrade yourself in the same domain. If you are new to coding, then find out your interest in the particular language by learning the basics of the same or researching about it through the internet and other sources. Mr Sharma urged the coders not to learn or jump from language to language for the sake of the job as it will not be useful in the long run. He emphasized on learning one language and then master it before switching to another language. Giving more insights, he mentioned that as per the current trend, Python training is advisable as it can be used in multiple technologies. He mentioned that Python is a general programming language and it one of the most used languages globally. The best part of using Python as a programming language is that it can be used in web development, GUI applications, Gaming, Software development, Network level programming, database access etc. In the growing trend of data science and its application to solve the real-world problem, python as a computer language is widely used. It has a huge scope in the coming time as data is going to be the key to success. Post the pandemic, the world is going to run after the data science to predict such a pandemic scenario never happens again.
He mentioned that the data is going to run the world in the coming future, and every technical or non-technical person must be ready to adapt to the situation. No one in the world can live without technology, so do not be afraid or hesitant. Everyone needs to adopt the technology in one or the other form and all the people must be aware of this. Talking about the employment and opportunities, he mentioned that the pace has slowed down but it doesn’t mean that the demand will vanish. In the end, he said it is the best time to prepare and learn more as everyone is going to get a chance to experiment in the future and this is the time for us to sharpen the axe as much as we can so that when we get the chance to strike, we can strike off the tree in one shot.

India is poised to reboot the economy through S&T: Dr. Harsh Vardhan
The Union Minister of Science and Technology, Earth Sciences, and Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Harsh Vardhan said today that IndiaÂs fight against the COVID-19 is moving fast ahead strongly and steadily. He was addressing a digital conference, RE-START Â ÂReboot the Economy through Science, Technology and Research TranslationsÂ, organized to celebrate the National Technology Day. The Conference was organized by the Technology Development Board (TDB), a statutory body of the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
While applauding the Ministry of Science and TechnologyÂs response to epidemics like COVID in the country, Dr. Harsh Vardhan emphasized that the S&T response reflects the collaborative spirit of the entire S&T ecosystem. ÂIndian government, academia, scientists, start-ups, entrepreneurs and industry have been working relentlessly to find solutions to combat this pandemic. We must appreciate the efforts of our scientists, our entrepreneurs and our institutions working to find quick and deployable solutions for COVID-19. New discoveries, industry partnerships, and enhanced research initiatives have thus been rapidly developed and adoptedÂ, said the minister.
ÂWithin a short period of time, the nation has been able to mobilize a number of researchers to develop new testing kits, protective equipment, respiratory devices, etc.Â, he added.
The minister also apprised the audience about the ÂCOVID-19 Task Force set up by the Government to map COVID-19-related technology capabilities. ÂOur Government has vigorously supported the ÂMake in India Programme. This has brought in scientific institutions and start-ups to develop the COVID-19 tests, masks, sanitizers, personal protective equipment (PPEs) and ventilators, he further added.
On the theme for the National Technology Day this year, Dr. Harsh Vardhan pointed out, ÂWe need to mitigate the widespread economic impact and prepare for a stronger recovery using self-reliance as the new mantra. Thus, we look towards new opportunities to galvanize growth in the technological and industrial sector.Â
While delivering his special address, Dr. VK Saraswat, Member, NITI Aayog, pointed out the importance of new-age technologies, medical and manufacturing technologies, etc. in boosting the economy as the world adjusts to the new normal.
Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India, Professor K. Vijay Raghavan, pointed out how technology can change the way we live our lives and the way we do things in future, particularly so in the post-COVID era. He pointed out that this is an opportunity to gear up for the future that lies ahead, and a better-equipped R&D workforce and ecosystem will prepare India better for future challenges.
DST has stepped into its 50th year of existence. DST Secretary Professor Ashutosh Sharma, thus, underlined the significance of the National Technology Day in view of the challenges faced during these times of COVID-19. He further emphasized that the COVID-19 crisis had led R&D and technology development to work in various modes. The private-public model has encouraged R&D to greater heights. Plausible translations, prototyping, start-ups, and industry have seen immense growth.
ÂRebooting the economy requires new-age technologies, appropriate national missions, programmes and schemes to get into quick action. He added that wherever readymade solutions are not available, research and development needs to be more profound, relevant, speedy, impactful and strongly connected to industry. The lessons learnt now would continue to assist us in addressing the overarching challenges of the futureÂsustainable development, climate change, industry 4.0, anti-microbial resistance, etc., said Professor Sharma.
Dr. Saumya Swaminathan, Chief Scientist, World Health Organization, highlighted the steps taken internationally to combat the pandemic and the way forward. Dr. Swaminathan appreciated the way India has tackled the COVID-19 challenge. Mr. Chandrajit Banerjee, DG, CII; Mr. Vikram Kirloskar, President, CII, and Dr Neeraj Sharma, Secretary, TDB, were among those who participated in the inaugural session.
During this occasion, Dr. Harsh Vardhan also inaugurated a virtual exposition of companies whose technologies have been supported by TDB. Various organizations and companies showcased their products in the exposition through a digital B2B lounge.
The conference has hence brought together scientists, technocrats, government officials, diplomats, WHO officials, and dignitaries from national and international industry, research institutions and academic institutions on a single platform to share their insights on the role played by S&T to combat this global healthcare crisis and to find solutions for the same.
The conference will have technical sessions on ÂMedicines & Medical TechnologiesÂ; ÂAdvanced Materials  New Technology HorizonsÂ, ÂAdvanced Manufacturing Technologies for Sustainable Future & Global Innovation and ÂTechnology Alliance for Global Economic LeadershipÂ. (India Science Wire)
