Social media is increasingly taking over our lives, and while everyone loves double taps and appreciative comments on their posts, nobody likes trolls that spew hate online. With the growth of social media, there has also been an alarming increase in the number of teenagers being bullied online. According to a report by Harford County Examiner, at least half the teenagers in the world have been victims of cyberbullying. 

What’s more shocking is that only 1 in 5 cyberbullying cases get reported. David Zhao is helping the recipients through his organization that strives to spread awareness about the evils of cyberbullying and eventually bring it to a stop. 

Born in Shanghai, China, Zhao moved to the US to pursue his majors in management and computer informational sciences. Being an international student, he was harassed and picked upon for his accent. Realizing that there were many students who suffered like him, he founded End to Cyberbullying with Samuel Lam. “When adults tell you not to bully, it’s not as effective as when teens do it,” Zhao said. “The goal is to curb cyberbullying and change the attitude of people. It’s better to be an upstander than a bystander,” he added. 

An entrepreneur, activist, and philanthropist, David Zhao founded his social media marketing company, More views, in 2007. Zhao is an expert in digital development and social media marketing & management and serves on the Board of Directors for many non-profits and corporations. He studied at the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania, while simultaneously running his business and ETCB.

End to Cyber Bullying (ETCB) aims at creating a world devoid of cyberbullying where teens can be themselves and feel safe. Zhao wants to educate teens, parents, teachers, and society about cyberbullying. Since its launch in 2012, the organization has reached out to over 2.5 million people across the world and developed a sizeable fan base on social media as well.

Makeup Artist Taihseen Mohamed Farooq Has Turned Her Passion Into An Entrepreneurial Venture

With this thought in their mind, sister duo, Taihseen, and Humera started a venture Makeovers By Taihseen and Humera in 2017.     

Taihseen has always been extremely passionate about beauty secrets and makeup. Since childhood, she used to observe her mother applying makeup with great pious. She has followed her and Humera (her sister) who were always pro in their approach. 

“Makeup was always my passion. I always use to do makeup myself. Not only this, as I was a fashion and makeup blogger, my followers always used to appreciate my work and keep on urging me to teach them. My sister and I have been approached several times by the Insta followers for teaching them makeup. After consistent requests on social media, we decided to conduct two days’ workshop regarding the nitty-gritty of makeup. There were around 10 students who registered for our workshop.  Seeing the response we were overwhelmed. We were literally mesmerized with the love and response and that’s where we decided to take a plunge. Our first batch commenced on 27 January 2017,” said Taihseen, one of the founders of Makeovers By Taihseen and Humera.    

For sisters, entrepreneurship was not something they wanted to do. However, today being a renowned makeup artist, the duo is glad that they decided to take a plunge. “Entrepreneur, not really but I ended up becoming one and I am really glad I did. I dint choose to do something for just the money. I did it because I want to live life on my own terms. Money comes as an added bonus, but the ultimate motive is to create something that can solve problems. And I believe the key to becoming a successful entrepreneur lies in being able to think like one,” opined Taisheen.

Taihseen sees challenges as something positive. She believes that there is never any progress if one doesn’t don’t face any challenge. “To be honest it wasn’t as difficult since my sister always had my back and her professionalism as my partner in this business really helped us to work positively as a team. Not only this, my family always supported me. Initially, there were other Mua’s who tried to drag us down, spoke ill about us but we ignore all the negativity and continued our work! We never stop working hard and I guess the price of success is hard work,” said Taihseen.

They provide 6 weeks basics professional course for students who want to pursue a career in the makeup industry. “We are also offering ‘professional airbrush course’. In a very short span, we started our monthly batches with six students in each batch. So far, I have certified over 150 above students.  Now I am also getting offers for bridal make-up. Gradually, I started providing basic self-grooming course for girls who simply want to do it for their own self,” informed Taihseen.

There are three primary attachment styles, Burns explains, secure, anxious, and avoidant. 

Secure people make up about 50% of the population, and are the individuals who typically come to mind when thinking about healthy relationships. These people are comfortable with intimacy, warm, loving, and are available to their partners. Unfortunately, although about half of all people are secure, this is not the majority of people who make up the single pool. These people most frequently find themselves in healthy and satisfying relationships. So if you’re single and looking for a partner, pay attention because finding a secure partner is the best way to become secure yourself.

Next, the anxious style is characterized by wanting too much intimacy and closeness. These people are often overly preoccupied over their relationships and can obsess about them.  and obsess about the relationship. Burns shares that often people who identify with the anxious style will look for external validation that their partner likes them and that this type can become extremely insecure if that validation is not immediately offered. The best way for this type to find healthy, lasting relationships it to do deep internal work concerning their relational insecurities and to date a secure person, who can help them become more secure themselves. 

?Finally, avoidant people go to the opposite extreme of the anxious style. They tend to want too much space and to equate intimacy as a bad thing. They push away others and can be fearful of commitment or getting too close to another person. Often, avoidants develop these feelings as a result of having been smothered by someone in their past or because they witnessed or have experienced unhealthy or broken relationships in the past. Once again, this attachment style arises from internal issues, and to become more healthy relationally, avoidants should seek to work through their relational issues and fears and seek to become more healthy. 

The good news, Burns reveals, is that your attachment style is not set in stone. Anxious and avoidant types can become more secure with time, and that can dramatically impact the health and quality of their intimate relationships. In his coaching practice, Burns dives into this relationship tool, along with a host of other top resources and tools to help his clients find success in their personal life or business.

Here Are 3 Lucky Startups That Bagged Funding From Risers Accelerator

Risers Accelerator has funded three startups, Cosmeto Food, Zeleno, and Playtoome, with a total investment of around Rs 11 Crore. Risers Accelerator is a conglomerate of 35 individuals based out of Delhi which is aggressively promoting startups with good business potential. 

Accelerator holds 10 percent equity in ZelenoWhile, in Cosmeto Food Organic Pvt Risers Accelerator has funded Rs 2 crores for product distribution and it holds 10 percent equity in the company. Moreover, Playtoome will get the next round of funding from Risers of Rs 4 crore.

Apart from this, Accelerator is also in talks with ‘Just Happy’ as well, which is in the retail segment of household gifts stationery.

Speaking on the development, Pravin Khandelwal, Director, Leadership & Motivation, Risers Accelerator said, “Our focus is to accelerate the companies that have a noble cause attached to it along with the business part. With the latest order by the Indian Railways of 500 vending machines, Zeleno is on the right track and hopefully, the target of reaching every metro city by the end of this financial year will be achieved. We believe that the initiative will stand as the main pillar in the success of ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’, a campaign by the Government of India.” 

Risers Accelerator supported Zeleno, a startup dealing in Reverse Vending machines, recently got a contract through Rail India Technical and Economic Services (RITES) for Central Railways of 500 machines. Zeleno was started three years back by an ISB Hyderabad trio towards furthering the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Valued at Rs 50 crore, Zeleno has been successfully installing the machines in New Delhi and Lucknow. Piloting with these places, the company has already come up with a blueprint of places across India where the machines will be installed. Risers Accelerator holds 10 percent equity in the company.

Challenges a cause-based startup faces

“A new idea always faces apprehensions and these doubts increases if a cause is attached to the idea. People start talking about the viability of the project and ROI, etc. The need of the hour is that the incubators and accelerators should come forward to support these startups that have the potential to safeguard the future of the earth. We do understand that business is important and all of these startups are here to do that,” said Prateek Mittal, Co-founder of Zeleno when asked about the challenges a cause-based startup faces. 

What number says?

The idea is good as the business related to this sector is a growing one. In fact, studies put that in India around 90 percent of PET bottles are recycled out of which around 65 percent at registered facilities, 15 percent in the unorganized sector and 10% reused at homes. The model makes sense the rate of recycling of PET bottles is much higher than the rate in other countries such as Japan (72.1%), Europe (48.3%) and the US (31%).

“With such a huge recycling industry at work in India, the scope of such startups is good. The industry employees around 4 million people and it is one of the best ways of income generation for various people including rag pickers and recyclers. We see huge potential as India’s waste management sector would be worth US $13.62 billion by 2025,” adds Rachit Chawla, Director, Finance & Technology, Risers Accelerator.

On the other hand, Cosmeto Food Organic Pvt Ltd is a startup that provides taste-able authentic Ayurvedic organic handmade skincare products. Risers Accelerator has funded Rs 2 crores for product distribution and it holds 10 percent equity in the company. 

It was established 2 years back by Himanshu Chadha.  Valued at Rs 20 crore, Cosmeto has been successfully operating pan India and is exporting to about 35 countries. The products by the company are made from ECOCERT Certified organic ingredients with tested and authenticated proven formulations. 

What market figure states?

Due to an increased focus on personal care, the market for natural and organic cosmetics market is thriving. As per the report by Market Research Future (MRFR), the global natural and organic cosmetics market is predicted to touch USD $25,100 million by 2023. 

“Our products are free of paraben, animal by-products, silicon, mineral oils, toxins, alcohol and other harsh cosmetic chemicals which are safe to be tasted as well. Since they are made of almost 100% natural ingredients, you might mistake them as natural food because of their appearance and texture. The third company in which Risers Accelerator has invested in is Playtoome, a company that is into technology-enabled live performance, entertainment, and consumer engagement platform. 

“Playtoome was launched with a singular vision – to transform the live entertainment space by connecting audiences with their favorite artists through technology and enabling more interactive and immersive live entertainment experiences. The investment will give a big boost to that vision. This association provides us with the capital infusion necessary to scale our operations and also unlocks access to key mentorship and networking opportunities critical to the growth of any emerging startup,” S Keerthivasan, Founder and CEO of Playtoome said.

Market numbers 

The company is targeting to be USD $50 million in business and 5 million unique customers in the next three years. Playtoome’s model involves enlisting music enthusiasts on its platform and based on their requests and preferences and the whole experience in an interactive manner. The online portal is two-year-old and has a customer base of 50,000 and has 3500 artists. The customers can view the concerts on his/her mobile, tablet, laptop, PC or even on a smart TV. On the other hand, it takes off the pain of paying a hefty fee for listening to live concert and to be physically present there.
