On May 1st, 2023, Monday, a Domestic carrier Spicejet joined in efforts to bring back stuck Indians from Sudan under ‘Operation Kaveri’ by the Central Government. The airline operated its first flight to evacuate 184 stranded Indians from Jeddah to Kochi on 30th April. The airlines have mentioned that they are in touch with the government to operate more such flights. 

Ajay Singh, the Chairman and Managing Director of Spicejet said, “We are humbled by the opportunity to contribute to the evacuation of stranded Indians from Sudan under the ‘Operation Kaveri.’ The airline remains committed to supporting the Government in its mission to safeguard our citizens and enable their safe return to their homes and families.” The successful operation of the first evacuation flight from Jeddah brought back 184 Indians. 

The airline is in continuous touch with the Ministry of External Affairs as well as the Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia to coordinate further evacuation efforts. Also, more flights for evacuation from Saudi Arabia to various cities in India are being planned. The airline is well connected to Saudi Arabia and operates daily flights from Jeddah to Calicut, Delhi, and Mumbai. It also runs daily flights from Riyadh to Delhi. The Spicejet has been a key part of the process of the government’s removal and repatriation efforts in the past years too.

The Union government is all set to evacuate about 3,000 Indian passengers from Sudan who were stuck there, under Operation Kaveri. Sudan is experiencing a blood shell as a result of clashes between the paramilitary forces as well as the army. The airline is committed that no Indian should be left behind in Sudan, India will do everything to resolve this thing.

After tasting huge success from Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, Sharma bagged Band Baaja Baarat produced by Yash Raj Films. Shruti Kakkar, a career-oriented Delhi Girl, played by Anushka in BBB, helped her win numerous fans and she was widely appreciated for her remarkable raw acting. It, in no sense, is easy for a producer to back such non-commercial films but Anushka certainly did this, making her a force to be reckon with in terms of Film-producing. On April 30th, 2023, Monday, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi’s monthly radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’ completed its 100th episode. The episode was broadcasted live across the country and in the headquarters of the United Nations in New York. The Governor of Kerala, Arif Mohammad Khan said that ‘Mann Ki Baat’ shows how much a leader can motivate a nation into action through his inspiring words as well as encourage the people to be a better version of themselves. 

On Sunday, the Governor of Kerala was participating in the special event held at the Raj Bhawan in connection with the broadcast of the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ 100th episode. Prime Ministers’ thinking on education progress, overall development, welfare, and a host of other matters have inspired the people and roused them towards the genuine realm of actions. He also mentioned that the show ‘Mann Ki Baat’ has been providing a platform for the people to lend a voice to the dreams, desires, and optimism of almost 130 crore Indians. 

“It has been a tunic to stimulate the idea of ‘Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas Sabka Prayas,” he further added. The Minister of State for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs, V Muraleedharan was also one of them who attended the event and said that there is no other programme in the world other than Mann Ki Baat, where the head of the country interacts with the general public directly. All the prominent personalities, Padma awardees, National Balashri award winners, and young writers who got selected for the PM’s Yuva scheme were also presented at the event. 

A special exhibition was also organized  by the CBC (Central Bureau of Communication) and inaugurated by the Governor. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and its various departments jointly organized the program at Raj Bhawan. October 3rd, 2014, was the day when the programme was started and now it has become a primary support for the government’s citizen outreach program.

On May, 1st, 2023, Monday, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released its election manifesto or vision document ahead of the Karnataka Elections slated to be held on May 10th, 2023. The election manifesto will be released by the BJP’s national president JP Nadda in the presence of Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and party veteran Yeddyurappa at 11 am in Bengaluru. The party election manifesto may focus on the youth welfare measures, development of infrastructure, and empowerment of women. 

The party’s national president, JP Nadda will also hold two roadshows as well as Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister is also scheduled to hold four roadshows today. The Bharatiya Janata Party declared that it had looked at each and every section of society in its election manifesto for the Assembly Polls 2018. The cow protection measures had also been involved in the party manifesto. Further to take the first-time voters on board, a special announcement could be made for youth and girl students who have passed the 12th class. 

Meanwhile, Narendra Modi, the prime minister of India slammed the Congress for drawing parallels between him and a snake while addressing a rally in Kolar. He further said that the people of Karnataka will give a ‘befitting reply’ to the party in the upcoming elections. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge in an election rally said, “PM Modi is like a poisonous snake, you might think it’s poison or not if you lick it, you are dead.” Narendra Modi launched a devastating attack on Congress entitled  the party as an ‘outdated engine.’

The ruling BJP is in the last leg of the campaigning, in which the Prime Minister is conducting a number of rallies as well as roadshows to turn the wind in the party’s favour. The assembly elections are scheduled on May 10th, including 200 units of free electricity in Karnataka and the counting of the votes is scheduled on May 13th. 

The Assam government is considering reorganizing its administrative system to decentralize power from the district to the constituency level in order to relieve deputy commissioners of routine chores.

There are 126 Assembly districts and 31 administrative districts in Assam. Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, claims that the state administration is trying to establish “DC offices” in each of the 126 constituencies.

By decentralizing authority from the district level to the constituency level, the Assam government is considering overhauling its administrative structure in an effort to relieve deputy commissioners of routine labour.

“There will be DC offices and an Additional Deputy Commissioner in each of Assam’s 126 Assembly districts. And they’ll handle all the labour. There would be a district in every constituency, so people won’t need to travel to the district headquarters for any work,” the Chief Minister told some sources in Guwahati. The issue will be covered in full at a three-day DC conference set for Tinsukia from May 12 to 14.  

The state government of Assam passed numerous important policies for preserving the power of district officials and fostering grassroots governance during a weekly meeting of the Assam Cabinet. The Cabinet also authorized a set of standards for District Commissioners’ (DCs) performance evaluation. 

Additionally, the Cabinet approved the District Commissioners’ (DCs) performance evaluation criteria and a 3% pay rise for contract workers at 5 mini ITIs in the Department of Skill, Employment, and Entrepreneurship.

The goal of the new policy for district officials is to keep district teams active throughout the year, bringing governance and administration closer to the people. Additionally, the policy outlines a procedure for releasing officers who intend to continue on extended leaves and under regular transfer orders without affecting the district team structure. Each district will have a set number of ADCs, SDOS, and Assistant Commissioners based on its size, needs, and complexity.

On April 28th, 2023, Friday, The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Defence Ministers’ Meeting is underway in New Delhi. The Defence Minister of India, Rajnath Singh is chairing the SCO Defence Ministers’ Meeting, where he will be stressing on the cultural as well as civilisation ties between the SCO nations. The ministers participating in the SCO meeting will be having a discussion on reviewing the overall situation in Afghanistan.   

“We have cultural and civilizational links. For ages, we have had people-to-people connections and have exchanges in the field of commodities, as well as ideas due to which we have grown in cultural and economic terms. With changing times, we will work to strengthen those linkages, SCO has evolved into a strong regional organisation,” Rajnath Singh said while addressing the SCO meeting in Delhi. The Chinese Defence Minister Li Shangfu, Iran’s Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Gharaei Asthiyani, Kazakhstan’s Colonel General Ruslan Zhaksylykov, and Tajikistan’s Colonel General Sherali Mirzo are among those who are presented at the SCO Meeting. 

Meanwhile, Pakistan had earlier decided to skip the conclave but now the Defence Minister of Pakistan Khawaja Asif will be participating in the SCO meeting through a virtual mode. The primary focus of the deliberations would be on the situation of security in the region, including the development of Afghanistan. The officials involved in the overall preparation and coordination said that enhancing coordination among the member countries of SCO to effectively combat terrorism and extremism should be on priority. 

The Defence Ministry of India said in a statement that China had eroded the entire basis of ties between the countries by flouting bilateral agreements. The SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organisation) is an intergovernmental organisation established in the year 2001. There are several countries in the SCO membership named China, Tajikistan, Pakistan, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan besides India.
