Police will pursue the case to its natural conclusion, Pawan Khera has apologised: CM of Assam Himanta Sarma

The India Saga Saga |

A day after being kicked off an aircraft, Congressman Pawan Khera offered an unqualified apology, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted on Friday. Congressman Pawan Khera was implicated and has offered a complete apology regarding the name-calling of the Prime Minister’s ancestral middle name – ‘Damodar’. CM of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma said in a recent tweet that he hopes that in the future everyone will respect public spaces by restricting to use of foul or cuss language, especially in a political debate.

The Congress said on Thursday that its top official Pawan Khera was removed from a plane heading to Raipur, where he was supposed to attend the party’s plenary assembly. The Assam Police had detained Khera, the reports said.

According to some unknown sources, Khera was denied permission to fly to Raipur after the Assam Police issued a directive. On the scene to capture the Congress member were representatives from the Assam Police and the Airport Police. According to IGP L&O and Assam Police spokesperson Prasanta Kumar Bhuyan, Khera has reportedly been detained on charges of criminal conspiracy and inciting racial animosity because of his remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“In the Haflong police station in the Dima Hasao district of Assam, Congressman Pawan Khera was the target of a case. In order to take Pawan Khera into prison in connection with the crime, Assam Police deployed a team to Delhi, according to some news stories, as of Thursday.

The case against Khera was registered at the Haflong police station in Assam under different sections of the IPC, including 153 B (imputations, claims harmful to national interest), 500 (punishment for defamation), and 504 (intentional insult with intent to cause disturbance of the peace) (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace).

In his criticism of the government over the dispute surrounding the Gautam Adani-led business empire, Khera had referred to the prime minister as “Narendra Gautamdas Modi.” In Modi’s full name, Narendra Damodardas Modi, his middle name, Damodardas, which is common throughout the country, replaces his father’s name. The apparent gaffe was fiercely denounced by the BJP, who further charged Khera of making fun of the Prime Minister and his late father.

Dr. S Jaishankar:- “Indira Gandhi removed my father from post of Union Secretary”

The India Saga Saga |

The Minister for External Affairs Dr. S Jaishankar has sparked a massive controversy, drawing criticisms from Congress Party for alleging that his father was removed from the post of Union Secretary by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

In a recent podcast with ANI’s Smita Prakash, the Minister for External Affairs Dr. S Jaishankar was seen in a candid mode, talking about various phases of his personal life including his family life, life as a Foreign Secretary and life as a Politician and a Member of Parliament. However, now the Foreign Secretary turned Union Minister is stuck in a massive controversy. In the interview to Smita Prakash, Jaishankar stated that hat his father Dr K Subrahmanyam was removed as Secretary, Defence Production, by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi soon after she came back to power in 1980 and he was superseded during the Rajiv Gandhi period with someone junior to him becoming the Cabinet Secretary.

He stated “In 1980, he was Secretary, Defence Production. In 1980 when Indira Gandhi was re-elected, he was the first Secretary that she removed. And he was the most knowledgeable person everybody would say on defence”. He further told ANI that his father K Subrahmanyam who was then a Union Secretary was removed from the post because he was a very upright person and maybe that could have caused some problem which I do not know but that could be one of the reasons for his removal from the post.

The minister with his office at the South Block further went on to say that “But the fact was that as a person he saw his own career in bureaucracy, actually kind of stalled. And after that, he never became a Secretary again. He was superseded during the Rajiv Gandhi period for somebody junior to him who became a Cabinet Secretary. It was something he felt…we rarely spoke about it. So he was very, very proud when my elder brother became Secretary.”

As of now, the grand old Congress party has refrained from commenting on Dr. S Jaishankar’s statement regarding the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi but the Congress party was quick to counter him on his statement regarding India-China and the ongoing war.

About K Subrahmanyam

The External Affairs Minister’s father, K Subrahmanyam, was an IAS officer and one of India’s most reputed strategic thinkers, a towering authority on geopolitics who enjoyed the confidence of a series of Prime Ministers. In his long career as a civil servant and strategic affairs expert, Subrahmanyam was known for, among other things, chairing the Kargil War Review Committee and for his championing of India’s nuclear deterrence policy.

When he passed away in 2011, then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said Subrahmanyam had made important and lasting contributions to the evolution of India’s defence, security and foreign policies.

Mustard Oil: The Healthy and Tasty Oil for Your Kitchen

The India Saga Saga |

Mustard oil has been a staple ingredient in Indian kitchens for generations. It is extracted from the seeds of the mustard plant and is known for its distinct pungent aroma and taste. In recent years, mustard oil has gained attention worldwide for its health benefits and unique flavour profile.

Yellow Mustard vs. Black Mustard: The Healthier Choice

Mustard seeds come in different varieties, including yellow mustard and black mustard. Black mustard is known for its stronger flavour and is commonly used in pickling and marinades. However, it is not as healthy as yellow mustard due to its high content of erucic acid, which can be harmful to the heart.

Yellow mustard, on the other hand, is a healthier option for cooking oil as it has a lower amount of erucic acid. It is rich in monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, making it a heart-healthy option for cooking. It also contains antioxidants that have anti-inflammatory properties and can help improve digestion.

American Pistachios and some of its Health Benefits

The India Saga Saga |

Pistachios were regarded as a rare delicacy for thousands of years, but they are now a common necessity. American pistachios have many advantages, including the potential to support an active lifestyle, lower the risk of diseases related to nutrition, and aid in the maintenance of good health. To talk about the nutritive properties in pistachios, the Indian office of American Pistachios Growers (APG) organized a knowledge session on February 15, 2023 in Mumbai that was attended by health and lifestyle media.

The session especially focused on a recent study conducted by Cornell University and published in the journal Nutrients that found that pistachios have a high antioxidant capacity. In fact, the antioxidant capacity of pistachios rivals that of popular antioxidant-containing foods, including blueberries, pomegranates, cherries and red wine. The researchers used the two different methods to measure the antioxidant potential of pistachios – Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) and Cellular Antioxidant Activity (CAA) – and found that pistachios have a very high level of antioxidant activities.

Generally, most health professionals recommend antioxidants from food sources to help protect healthy cells from free radical damage in the body. Pistachios are one of the very few foods high in antioxidants that are also a complete protein. This makes them perfect for people who want a more plant-based diet. Research conducted and published in 2020 had shown that California grown pistachios are a complete protein; which means that they contain all 9 essential amino acids that your body needs. These types of complete proteins are only found from animal sources. Vegetarians need to balance this with supplements. Pistachios are a natural source.

Pistachios are also low in calories when compared to other nuts. One serving of pistachios (49 nuts) is only 160 calories making them a great anytime guilt free snack.

Speaking on the occasion Ms. Naini Setalvad, renowned Nutritionist, wellness expert and a columnist commented “Antioxidant rich food helps protect healthy cells from free radical damage, and proteins are like the building blocks that help with muscle regeneration and repair. The best part, pistachios have both these powers. There were times when pistachios were used as a garnish on desserts, biryanis etc. Now people are becoming more aware of the amazing health benefits of American pistachios and adding them to their daily diets.

Unlike popular belief, pistachios are not fattening. In fact they are also the lowest in calories when compared to other dry fruits and nuts making them a great choice for those suffering from high blood sugar. They also have beneficial fats, fibre and other important nutrients that our body needs every day. Pistachios are easily portable and have a long shelf life, making them easy to carry and consume”.

Speaking on the India market Mr. Sumit Saran, In-Country Marketing Representative of American Pistachios Growers remarked, “We have seen tremendous demand for American pistachios, as people are getting more aware. They are great as a snack or as an ingredient. American pistachios are available on all major e-commerce platforms or with major dry fruit retailers. All consumers have to do is search for California pistachios.”

About American Pistachio Growers

American Pistachio Growers is a non-profit trade association representing more than 865 growers, member processors and industry stakeholders in California, Arizona and New Mexico. More details and a compendium of the global research can be found at www.AmericanPistachios.in

“Navigating London’s Thriving Real Estate Market: The Role of Acquist in Connecting Indian Buyers with Prime Properties”

The India Saga Saga |

London, a diverse and thriving economic hub, continues to attract foreign investment despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and Brexit. Factors such as the stability of the British pound and the historical strength of London’s real estate market, with prices in prime central London doubling in the last decade, make it an attractive option for investors.

To assist potential buyers in navigating the London real estate market, Acquist, a Mumbai-based venture, acts as a bridge between buyers and sellers. As part of the Global Network of Marketing and Sales partners of Berkeley Group, Barratt London and Taylor Wimpey in South Asia, the company utilises the same tools and strategies as developers to identify potential buyers in India for London properties.

Acquist’s Founder, Sanjay Guha, explains that the company began their London real estate journey in 2018 with the goal of offering London as an investment destination to Indian buyers who were not fully familiar with the nuances of buying real estate in London. Now, four years later, the team at Acquist is fully equipped to guide Indian buyers through the process in a seamless and transparent manner.

Priyank Lakhia, Founder & Director of 5Bay Group, London, adds that despite a gloomy macro outlook, London’s central property market is still buoyant due to healthy overseas demand and reduced outbound migration from London. He also highlights that a recent survey voted London as the best city to live in 2023, and with tourists returning to the city, the new year has begun on a positive note.

However, for those who are planning to invest outside India, it is important that they immediately use the 2 FY windows available between now and March and April till June end as The Union Budget 2023 proposes a Tax Collection at Source (TCS) for foreign outward remittance under LRS (other than for Education and medical purpose) of 20% applicable from July 1, 2023. This will come into effect after the bill is passed. Before this proposal, the TCS of 5% was applicable on foreign outward remittances above INR 7 lakhs.

It is important to note that as always, it’s essential to conduct thorough research and consider personal financial circumstances before making any investment decisions.
