Importance of animal welfare: An interview with Delhi-based animal activist and feeder, Ittika Duggal

The India Saga Saga |

Ms. Ittika Duggal, has been continuously taking care of the strays especially the dogs for the last more than seven years, through her own sources of income generation pursuits, be it freelancing or working for long hours, online, to feed these stray animals. She houses five stray dogs in her house with separate beds for each.

Q. Hi, Ittika. What was the reason that made you so passionate about the stray animals?

It all started when we brought a little puppy in our house. Initially, I was hesitant in indulging myself in having a domestic pet in the family, but gradually I started taking care of the puppy. It used to fall sick very often and we had to take care of his health and well-being. While taking care of the puppy and its response to the treatment grew my interest in my pet. The puppy became a part of our family.

But, one day, at the age of 7 years, my pet, my life, suddenly suffered multi-organ failure and had to be put down. My inspiration has been my beloved Bruno and I see him in each one of the strays.

Q. Tell us about yourself and your quest for animal welfare?

I am a Member of PFA and an area Representative of the Indian Animal Welfare Board, GoI. I also have a small NGO named, Let the Tails Wag and committed to the welfare of the strays through sterilization, vaccination, adoption, distress redressal of the animals, rehabilitation and of course feeding. My special endeavor has been during the pandemic period which could not deter me from committing to the lovely creatures.

Q. How you think the community can be involved in animal welfare?

People now are more aware to the animal rights and protection due to various sources of media. People are not shy now in lending a helping hand to the cause of the unrepresented creatures. The awareness needs to be generated by informing the people at large that a stray gets ferocious when it is not fed properly or is weak and ailing, especially the stray dogs. Now the governments are also taking birth control measures to keep a tap on the population explosion of the strays. The strays, especially the dogs, have been the oldest friend of the human beings and thus, people need to be compassionate about their needs.

Q. What hurdles you faced in your field of activity?

It has been more than seven years that I have been associated with the strays and had to face lot of resistance and opposition, while I used to feed the animals. People would often won’t let me feed them as it would cause the pack gathering at one place. During COVID19 pandemic period, the administrative machinery posed its objections despite me carrying the Curfew Pass.

But, these small storms could not affect me in my endeavor to take care of the neglected friend of the mankind since times immemorial. I shall continue to pursue my passion throughout my life.

Entrepreneur & Digital Marketing Mentor Ujwal Sharma shares his views on Education System

The India Saga Saga |

India has one of the strongest and largest diversity, with the most populous democracy, second-most largest population with extremely talented youths. There is no doubt that youths are the future of a country. Being skillful in today’s world is common, but being innovative in today’s generation is what the world needs.

The business and technological world of the 21st century has digitized itself and has come up in the market with new hopes. Keeping the same thoughts and ideas in mind, one very young, the skilled teenage digital entrepreneur has shown to the world what exactly a person can do if he has the dream and dedication to achieve it.

Ujwal Sharma a Kolkata-based Digital Entrepreneur and Digital Marketing Mentor, who’s the Founder and CEO of Uzi World Digital. He has emerged as one of the top entrepreneurs at the global level. Ujwal’s dedication towards his work has now gained world recognition. He was the winner of the prestigious Indian Achievers’ Award for Young Entrepreneur in recognition of Outstanding Professional Achievement and Contribution in Nation Building, organized and presented by the Indian Achievers’ Forum.

The story of success-

Born and brought up in the city of joy, Kolkata, Ujwal has always dreamt of achieving high in his life. He believes in being busy and working smartly to achieve his goals. For him, success can never be permanent but is momentary. A successful person avoids resting.

When he was 16, he watched a motivational speech of Sandeep Maheshwari, a speaker, an entrepreneur, and a name among millions, where he spoke and mentored about how to start a business with no money. It was that video that motivated Ujwal and made him never look back again. Astonishingly, it was the same year, 2019, in which he launched his first Award-winning Digital Marketing company ‘Uzi World Digital’, which came out to be a grand success.

Ujwal’s dedication, hard work, and determination to achieve big in life made his company win the most prestigious award in Business World –  India Digital Enabler Awards (IDEA-2020) for the best use of social media on 4th December 2020 by Entrepreneur.com.

During the pandemic, where start-ups were undergoing great loss, Uzi World Digital managed to help more than 175 Indian, Canadian, USA, and UK based start-ups to grow their presence on the web, with the help of E-commerce websites, Digital PR, and social media to stand in the competitive market.

Views of the young entrepreneur on the education system-

Ujwal Sharma recently was called for an interview by the editor of Business and Finance in Classicpreneur News and Media, Miss. Prity Roy, where he opened up and spoke about himself and his views on the education system. In the interview, he revealed that he has spent his childhood in a boarding school for 9 years, for his overall development. He commented on today’s education system, which he finds non-productive for the overall development of a child.

“Education plays a crucial role in the development of a human, and subsequently, the entire nation. But today’s education system is purely based on legacy and not honor. Students fetching 90% or above fall in the category of brilliant, and those who score median grades are considered weaklings with no substantial future.” He further focused on the ancient world and stated that the curriculum taught by the masters of the old period was practical-based. Today’s grading system has made the students focus on the bookish knowledge and not the extracurricular activities.

Ujwal further spoke about the primary level education of a child that forms the plinth of a human. “Higher education teaches students about what others have done in their life and very little about what and how we, as a newcomer, can shine bright in this world. Education is not knowing about others, but to mold yourself so that the world can differentiate you from others.” He added about his work on the upcoming book in which he has highlighted some important and informative facts that would surely help the young entrepreneurs grow. The book is supposed to get launched soon.

When asked about teaching multilingual languages that have now come up in the curriculum, Ujwal stated that foreign languages are no longer suitable to be added in schools as many real-time translators software are available in the market. He commented, “People can now contact their friends sitting at different places in the world and can know many things about the country’s culture and languages. The education system must focus on the students’ health, fitness, and extracurricular activities like music, dance, etc.”

He believes schools and colleges are necessary as students get to know and meet different people with different thoughts and habits, which ultimately help them to develop interpersonal skills. The pandemic has unfortunately taken away that opportunity as well.

On the Indian education system, he highlighted the lack of technical facilities which need to be improved. He spoke about the data of around six million students who left studies in India due to the pandemic. One of the main reasons was the lack of technological facilities. Even though around 11.1% of children got phones to post the lockdown to help their studies, still many poor children are facing the problem of not being able to use the gadgets. “The teaching methodology in the Indian education system lacks and that it needs a change. A combination of a good tutor with an agile learning methodology can reap wonders.”

He highlighted that if we look into the syllabus of almost the last two decades from any Indian board, we can hardly see any changes in the syllabus. In simple terms, students from any Indian board can define and state the theoretical terms without any complication, but face difficulties when it comes to applying them in real life.

Ujwal Sharma believes in nurturing a kid from the beginning, not by pressurizing them with heavy books, but by adding fun and games in the process of learning.

“I believe every child must have knowledge of the market and how it functions, as it helped me to grow and established myself before my 20s.” He concluded with a statement that education is something never-ending. It is to retain and apply everything you have learned in real life in a trouble-free manner.

There is no doubt that India has produced various great entrepreneurs, doctors, scientists, and engineers. Ujwal Sharma, through his work and dedication, has proved that he is one of those valuable human resources that our country has ever had.

The India Saga Saga |

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, on Sunday, called a meeting to discuss Left-Wing Extremism. The meeting at Vigyan Bhawan was attended by Chief Ministers of states which have been affected by Left Wing Extremism which includes Maoist-Naxalites attacks. The meeting was also attended by DGP and the Chief Secretaries of those states. While KCR, Uddhav Thackeray, Nitish Kumar, and Naveen Patnaik attended the meeting, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee skipped the meeting.

The crucial meeting called by Amit Shah, the Home Minister was attended by representatives of 10 states. Various issues ranging from intensifying operations against Maoists, stopping their fund through joint collaboration with central agencies like Enforcement Directorate (ED), National Investigation Agency (NIA), and state police forces, targeting the front organizations, and carrying out widespread development activities among others were discussed during the meeting that lasted for several hours at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.

The meeting was attended by the Chief Minister of Odisha (Naveen Patnaik), Bihar (Nitish Kumar), Telangana (KCR), Jharkhand (Hemant Soren), Maharashtra (Uddhav Thackeray), and Madhya Pradesh (Shivraj Singh Chouhan). Also present in the meeting were Ashwini Vaishnaw, Gen (retd) V K Singh, Giriraj Singh, Arjun Munda, and Nityanand Rai, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, and Intelligence Bureau Chief Arvinda Kumar. Director Generals of NIA and Central Paramilitary Forces were also present in the meeting.

The meeting comes at a time the country has seen a drastic fall in left-wing extremism which includes Maoist insurgency.  Shah during the meeting said, “in decades of fighting, we have reached a point where the death toll is less than 200 for the first time and this is a huge achievement for all of us.” He even said, “We all know that unless we get rid of the problems of left-wing extremism completely, the full development of the country and the states affected by it is not possible. Without eliminating it, neither we will be able to spread democracy to the bottom nor will we be able to develop the underdeveloped areas.”

Shah also stressed the fact that the government in recent times has been successful in getting various insurgent groups to surrender their arms, especially in the North-East. Union Home Minister also went on to add that the root cause of Left-Wing Extremism is the dissatisfaction over-development not reaching affected areas in the last six decades and that we need to ensure schools, connectivity and infrastructure reaches those affected areas.

Angela Merkel’s bloc defeated by Social Democrats in German votes

The India Saga Saga |

Despite receiving its worst-ever performance in a federal election, the Union bloc said it would reach out to smaller parties to discuss forming a government, while Merkel continues to serve as a caretaker until a replacement is sworn in.

In a closely fought national election on Sunday, Germany’s center-left Social Democrats narrowly defeated outgoing Chancellor Angela Merkel’s center-right Union party, determining who will succeed the long-time leader at the helm of Europe’s largest economy.

The outcome was “a very clear mandate to ensure now that we put together a good, pragmatic government for Germany,” said Social Democrats’ nominee Olaf Scholz, the outgoing vice-chancellor and finance minister who dragged his party out of a years-long slump.

Despite receiving its worst-ever performance in a federal election, the Union bloc said it would reach out to smaller parties to discuss forming a government, while Merkel continues to serve as a caretaker until a replacement is sworn in.

Early Monday, election officials announced that a count of all 299 constituencies revealed that the Social Democrats earned 25.9% of the vote, compared to 24.1 percent for the Union bloc. In previous German national elections, no victorious party had received less than 31% of the vote.

Armin Laschet, the governor of North Rhine-Westphalia who outmaneuvered a more popular competitor to win Merkel’s Union bloc candidacy, had failed to rouse the party’s base and had made a number of mistakes. Laschet said of results that looked set to undercut by some measure the Union’s previous worst showing of 31% in 1949,  “Of course, this is a loss of votes that isn’t pretty’’. He further added that with Merkel departing after 16 years in power, ‘‘no one had an incumbent bonus in this election’’.

Both Laschet and Scholz will target the same two parties: the environmentalist Greens, who came in third place with 14.8 percent of the vote, and the pro-business Free Democrats, who received 11.5 percent.

Neurosurgeon Dr. Shailesh Jain puts forth his views on Post-Covid Rise in Tuberculosis Cases

The India Saga Saga |

Before the advent of Covid-19, tuberculosis (TB) was the global lead in terms of mortality caused by infectious diseases. According to the available data, almost 25T of the global population had TB in 2019. It has also been accused of taking away almost 4,000 lives every day. However, at the same time, TB treatment was gaining momentum over the past few decades. In 2018 and 2019 only, over 14 million people received TB treatment globally. This progress came to a halt with the emergence of Covid-19 around the world. The disruption in health services caused by the pandemic and the subsequent lockdowns led to a surge in TB cases throughout the globe. In addition to that, as a result of the Covid-19 related restrictions, case notification for TB decreased by 25% in 2020 in India.

Central Nervous System tuberculosis involves significant morbidity and mortality. It has been found that the prevalence of TB within a community can lead to the incidence of CNS-TB and almost 10% of TB patients develop neurotuberculosis. As a matter of fact, tubercular meningitis, tuberculoma, and Pott’s disease are some of the manifestations of CNS-TB. It can cause several neurological disorders which is why Dr. Shailesh Jain, a senior consultant neurosurgeon of Max Hospital Shalimar bagh, is making sure that people are aware of the risks involved with TB, especially during this pandemic when the health sector is facing severe adversities.

Even though there is still no proper evidence on the direct relationship between Covid-19 and tuberculosis, it cannot be denied that an infection like TB can take the advantage of the impaired immunity in Covid patients. Therefore, a Covid-19 can make people more susceptible to a deadly disease like TB. At the same time, both the diseases attack the human lungs contributing to the dual morbidity of Covid-19 and TB. Following this, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of India has provided the directive of Tb screening for all Covid19 patients and Covid19 testing for TB patients. In this scenario, Dr. Jain, an M.Ch (Neuro Surgery) from AIIMS, has taken the initiative of proving supervision to any neuro spinal disorder through his clinic Arihant Neuro Spine clinic.

Located in Pitampura, Delhi, Dr.Shailesh jain clinic with the name of Arihant Neuro Spine Center is a trustable name within the patient community. With his 15 years of experience in neurosurgery and neuro treatment, Dr. Shailesh Jain has dedicated his professional career to the treatment of any neurological disorder with utmost care. His expertise in the field has gained his membership of the Neurological Society of India (NSI), Indian Society for Trauma and Acute Care (ISTAC), Medical Council of India (MCI), A-0 SPINE (International), and Delhi Neurological Association (DNA).

Sharing his take on the situation, Dr. Jain says, “There might be no correlation between Covid19 and TB but the pandemic has affected the TB treatment and care adversely. What makes the situation worse is the fact that both of the diseases share a similar set of symptoms including cough, fever, and breathing difficulties. The only thing we can do right now is to keep an eye on the future proceedings and take all the measures to reduce the chances of any further degradation.”

As India is getting deep into the pandemic, the Indian Government is taking more and more preventive measures to mitigate the upsurge in TB cases. There has also been an increase in case-finding efforts to contain the entire situation. The global progress against TB might have been impaired by the Covid-19 but the Government could use the expert guidance of doctors like Dr. Shailesh Jain to ensure the safety of its citizens.
