Rohit Roy shines amidst the never-ending challenges to make a mark in the fashion industry

The India Saga Saga |

The fashion industry has always been the talk of tinsel town. It has been the center of the showbiz industry and the glamour world. In brief, it runs the entire entertainment business. However, it is not easy to make a mark or even just gather a very small space in this industry. The rat race is too stretchy and then there is an enormous number of potholes in this industry. Belonging from a non-showbiz background and dreaming to do something in the fashion world is not a cakewalk. It requires a lot of blood and sweat to gather space for oneself and such is the story of emerging fashion designer, Rohit Roy.

Walking into the field of fashion just with eyes full of dreams and an innate passion to work, Rohit stepped into the showbiz industry as a fashion designer. It was like walking into an unknown land with no known faces except the craft he is committed to. He studied fashion and strived for work, day in and out till he started getting his acknowledgment due. The opportunities did not come easy but he had to create the opportunities for himself. Starting from local shows, he managed and aced in popular fashion shows like Pune Times, Blenders Pride Dehradun Fashion Week, and many more. He even worked with the best faces of the industry like Urvashi Rautela, Daisy Shah, Sneha Ullal, and several others as their designers. But this journey was not as easy as it seems!

Belonging to a small town of Bihar which many people might not have even heard the name of, Rohit witnessed manipulation and subjugation daily. He has seen women being abused, domestic violence, social malpractices, and several injustices from a very young age. The cruelties of the world have thus been very transparent to him since a very young age. His community has always been a threat to him and has not been conducive to his growth. Shaping his inner self to emerge as a strong individual was thus his first life challenge. The negativities of a paralyzed childhood gave him the zeal and courage to emerge into a strong and sensible adult who would be free enough to follow his dreams. Next to that, came the social stigma of being a male who wants to work in the fashion industry. The hardships and challenges have been innumerous from his community as well as the industry. He has been dropped off several places for this reason. Still, these reasons never let Rohit’s dream of being a designer go down.

Fighting all these and after educating himself about the intricacies of fashion when he was all set to work, came another challenge, “Rejection”. This, however, was not a single challenge that came only once, this challenge keeps coming to Rohit even today. Trying to make a mark without any godfather or known sources in the industry has been like a daily challenge for Rohit. However, this has never let his principles down. His honesty and dedication have sustained over the years and with that, he has managed to get work for himself. In just two years of the industry, he has worked so much, with so many faces and in several fashion weeks, that now he feels he should aim for something even bigger!

He aims to work at the Lakme Fashion Week and FDCI in a couple of years and showcase his incredible talent as a fashion designer in front of all. He has been designing both Western and Indian outfits and doesn’t want to restrict himself to any particular genre. He shared “Life has not been easy for me. I have been challenged every now and then. I have been rejected daily. From being a male trying to pursue designing and getting rejected for that, to not having sources and being rejected for that, rejection has been nothing new to me. But, these are like building blocks of my success. I am struggling and that is what I am proud of. I am not in a hurry, I will go step by step and become one of the leading fashion designers of India. I want to be an example and empower my community. I wish to also create an NGO where I can do public service. Whatever comes in between these, I would never sacrifice my self-respect and principles for corruption or money!”

However, often the heavy rain and an unprecedented treacherous rainy season lead to an unavoidable cataclysm. Swoon with new varieties of diseases and germs, monsoons are hosts to all kinds of infections. The chances of spreading these bacterias, viruses, and other microorganisms multiply during this period due to the high moisture content in the air. There are many small diseases that develop during monsoon and avoidance and ignorance of such can lead to major diseases.”

The most common are Malaria, Dengue, Jaundice, Cough and Cold, Influenza. So to treat them, effective home remedies should be taken. To treat mosquito-borne diseases, the first thing that should be done is to avoid water stagnancy. That is the breeding germ of mosquitoes. Moreover,  to keep them away mosquito repellants and creams should be effectively used. Bathrooms should be properly sanitized and strict hygiene should be maintained. Personal and environmental hygiene, like carrying sanitizers, hand washes, and more should be a must. Fruit and vegetables should be properly washed and boiled before consumption.  The practice of drinking boiled water should be ensured after a few intervals. Most importantly, a balanced diet should be maintained to keep the immune system strong. Whenever going out, raincoats and umbrellas should always be carried to prevent the catching of cold and flu.

Owing to the contemporary crisis, these things should be followed more strictly. Out of every possible measure, vaccination is of primary importance. Walk through the journey of life with Author Kushal Dastenavar’s memoir “Remembering Ashwini”

The India Saga Saga |

The most unfortunate thing about life is it does not stop moving; it goes on no matter what, and we have to because the stars are not always aligned. We are left with no choice – except to accept our life just as they are, optimistic and robust because giving up is not an option, and time stops for none. Along our journey, we get confronted with such situations that are filled with heartache, but how we react to them determines what the rest of our journey through life will be like. The same has been portrayed in the memoir of Author Kushal Dastenavar’s “Remembering Ashwini.”

Author Kushal Dastenavar’s book, Remembering Ashwini is a heart-wrenching memoir in loving memory of his beloved wife, Ashwini. It is a true story of how a happily married life can take an unimaginable U-turn. Through this book, the author narrated a particular facet of his life with his wife Ashwini, colored with his feelings and emotions tied with unconditional love before and after her demise. The author has disclosed his innermost thoughts with his own life experience in a candid and soulful manner.

The book “Remembering Ashwini” revolves around the author’s deeply meaningful and memorable companionship with his late wife Ashwini until one day, a piece of spine-chilling news hit the entire family like a bolt from the blue. June 2019 was when Ashwini was diagnosed with a brain tumor, a day when their life had turned upside-down. The memoir “Remembering Ashwini” touches upon all those profound moments the author and his beloved wife faced as a couple and as a family of four. They have passed through varied phases and circumstances. He had to decide and act as the head of the family with Ashwini as the epicenter until the day, on January 1, 2021, when after suffering for 18 months, Ashwini passed away peacefully during sleep in the early morning.

The memoir is a sincere effort of the author that might help the reader ponder over the true meaning of this precious life and what matters by seeing through the lenses of the beautiful life of the author with his wife Ashwini and, more precisely, those prized last 18 months of deeply meaningful and memorable companionship. Those 18 months, from June 14, 2019, to January 1, 2021, were the phase that formed the most enriching, deep, and meaningful period of the author’s life. He realized the importance of life and what makes it worth living, and what mattered. Every breath was precious. The power of silence was worth a thousand words. Self-less love and caring were far beyond words. Togetherness and belongingness were over and above everything. Those moments were deep, pure, priceless, incomparable, and complete.

The immense potential and power that we all are bestowed as human beings and yet the vulnerability clearly defined by the susceptible nature of our life towards birth and date are realized and expressed in the memoir. The book also gives an insight into the memories as priceless treasures that are to be cherished forever in our hearts. The author has projected every moment spent with his beloved wife on how to live your life by giving utmost love and care that readers can experience emotions as they breathe life into the story through the characters’ eyes. The unfortunate and unforeseen events will make the reader share a more excellent range of emotion with learning.

Every word read is an investment for a lifetime with return baggage of understanding of life, unconditional love, togetherness, and care with a new perspective and a new version of some facet of the world that can neither be compared to materialistic things nor can ever be bought.

The author is survived by his two sons Atharva (19) and Adi (14), currently residing at saint-German-en-Laye, a western suburb near Paris, France. Ashwini was employed as a country manager for a Global company, and the author is employed as a vice president in a large corporation.

What is Canada Federal Skilled Worker Program and how to apply?

The India Saga Saga |

Canada Skilled Worker Program, officially the Federal Skilled Worker Program [FSWP], is one of the three economic immigration programs managed by the federal government of Canada through the Express Entry system. The other Express Entry programs are those for individuals specialized in certain trades or those with previous Canada work experience [Canadian Experience Class or the CEC].

An online system, Canada’s Express Entry is used by the Canadian government – through the medium of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada [IRCC] – for the management of applications for Canadian permanent residence from skilled workers. To immigrate to Canada through the FSWP, a foreign skilled worker would be required to score 67 points on the Canada eligibility calculation. The FSWP has minimum requirements laid down for the three factors of skilled work experience, education, and language ability.

For a skilled worker to be deemed eligible for the FSWP, they must score 67 points on a 100-points grid that assesses six factors – age, education, work experience, whether or not the candidate has a valid Canada job offer, language skills in English and/or French, and the likelihood of their successfully settling down in the country. The potential for successful settlement in Canada is also referred to as the ‘adaptability’ factor.

In terms of the weightage given to each of the factors assessed, a maximum of 28 points is set aside for the language factor. Second, in terms of the maximum attainable points, is that of 25 points for education. Do keep in mind that an Education Credential Assessment [ECA] report will be required by a candidate that has completed their education from outside of Canada.

An ECA report – by any of the designated organizations, such as the World Education Service [WES] – is required to determine the equivalence of foreign education to that of the education imparted in Canada. Skilled work experience is worth a maximum of 15 points, with 6 or more years of experience securing the maximum attainable as per the factor.

With a maximum of 12 points set aside, the age factor comes next. A valid job offer in Canada – also referred to as “arranged employment” – and the factor of adaptability are worth 10 points each. Now, an individual can only apply for the FSWP under the Express Entry system if they are able to secure the required 65 points.

Once the eligibility has been established, that candidate can proceed to submit their Express Entry profile online. A simple and streamlined process, an Express Entry profile can be created at any time by the candidate. Any changes and updation can easily be made in case of any subsequent change in the information provided by the applicant at the time of the creation of their Express Entry profile.

So, your profile is in the Express Entry pool of candidates. What next? Simple, wait.

Applying for Canadian permanent residence through the Express Entry system is by invitation-only. The federal government of Canada holds Express Entry draws from time to time. While some might be all-programs draws encompassing the FSWP, the FSTP, as well as the CEC; other federal draws might be program-specific instead.

Often, IRCC might only invite those with a provincial nomination, under the Provincial Nominee Program [PNP] of Canada. For an FSWP candidate, the next part of the process commences when they receive an Invitation to Apply [ITA] from IRCC. Candidates invited can submit their application for permanent residence in Canada.

Here, an important thing to be kept in mind is that it is the highest-ranked Express Entry profiles that are invited. Not all Express Entry candidates receive an invitation. The rank of an Express Entry profile in the pool will be as per the Comprehensive Ranking System that allots a score – out of a maximum of 1,200 points – to each profile.

The best way to guarantee an ITA by IRCC is by securing a highly competitive CRS score. A CRS can be improved by bettering the language test results, securing a valid job offer, or becoming a provincial nominee. Incidentally, a low CRS score being a deterrent is one of the Top 7 myths of Express Entry.

A valid job offer from a Canadian employer can fetch up to 200 CRS points for an Express Entry candidate. A PNP nomination, on the other hand, is worth 600 CRS points, thereby guaranteeing an ITA by IRCC in the next federal draw to be held. As of April 26, 2021, there were 353 Express Entry profiles that were in the CRS score range of 601-1,200. The total number of profiles in the IRCC pool, on the other hand, was 167,159.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Canada has been focusing more on inviting those that might already be within Canada, such as those eligible for the CEC or provincial nominees. As no all-program IRCC draws have been held so far in 2021, no FSWP, or even FSTP, nomination has been issued so far this year. Hence, looking ahead, the recommended course of action for a skilled worker with their profile in the Express Entry pool, would be that of securing a PNP nomination, getting their invitation to apply through the provincial route instead.
