Amid a spiralling increase in coronavirus disease cases, the Centre on Tuesday compiled an exhaustive list of consignments of medical equipment that India has obtained from various countries. According to the government, India received 17 consignments from 14 countries between April 24 and May 2.

The equipment included were critical medical equipment such as oxygen concentrators, medical oxygen cylinders, ventilators and BiPAP devices, bedside monitors, antiviral medicines, rapid kits to detect Covid-19 virus, pulse oximeters, N95 masks, and personal protective equipment, among other things.

On April 24, the United Kingdom was the first to ship to India, sending 95 oxygen concentrators, 20 Lumis BiPAP devices, 20 ventilators, and other medical supplies. They were taken to several hospitals in the nation’s capital.

The donations kept coming in. On May 28, Singapore was the next country to send 256 oxygen cylinders, at a time when both government-run and private hospitals in the country confirmed medical oxygen shortages for critical patients.

Officials familiar with the situation said the oxygen concentrators from Singapore were distributed evenly in the All India Institute of Medical Science in Bhubaneswar, Patna, Raipur, and Ranchi.

Russia, too, aided India by sending oxygen concentrators, lung ventilators, bedside monitors, and at least 200,000 packs of the antiviral medication Favipiravir, which is used to treat coronavirus symptoms.

According to government data, also countries like Romania sent at least 75 oxygen cylinders and 80 oxygen concentrators to Delhi hospitals like Lady Hardinge, Safdarjung, and AIIMS Jhajhhar.

The United States and the United Arab Emirates have sent India the largest consignment so far. According to the numbers, the United States sent 714,301 rapid detection kits, 125,000 Remdesivir vials, 994,800 N95 masks, and hundreds of thousands of PPE kits in two separate consignments, while the UAE rushed in 480 ventilators, 170,7600 masks, and hundreds of thousands of PPE kits.

Other countries that have aided India during its crisis include the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Ireland, Thailand, Germany, France, Uzbekistan, and Taiwan.
