ICC announced the fixture for World Cup 2023 today. The Final will take place in Ahmedabad while the Semi-finals would be played in Kolkata & Mumbai.

The 50-over Men’s Cricket World Cup is all set to commence from October 5 and will conclude on November 19. India will be hosting the extravaganza and the final schedule of Dates and Venues was announced today. As per the announcement by ICC, a total of 10 venues has been finalised for the tournament (excluding 2 other venues for warm-up matches. Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Dharamsala, Delhi, Chennai, Lucknow, Pune, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Kolkata will be hosting the tournament while the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad will host the finals whereas Kolkata and Mumbai are all set to host the semis. Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram in addition to Hyderabad will host the warm-up matches from 29 September to 3 October.The complete schedule of ICC World Cup 2023 was announced today at 12 pm at St. Regis, Mumbai. The much-awaited clash between India and Pakistan will be held on October 15th at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. A total of 48 matches will be played among 10 teams in the World Cup 2023 and this will be after 12 long-years that India will be hosting the World Cup.

The much-anticipated World Cup which is mere 3 months away from commencement is making headlines each day for some news, announcement and a bit of controversy around it, mostly by Pakistan (regarding the venues). Automaker Takes Action to Address Faulty Coaxial Cable Connector.

Honda has announced a recall of approximately 1.2 million vehicles in the United States after discovering a potential issue with the rearview camera image display. The affected models include the 2018-2023 Odyssey minivans, 2019-2022 Pilot SUVs, and 2019-2023 Passport SUVs. The recall comes as a result of a faulty coaxial cable connector that may prevent the rearview image from appearing on the dashboard screen.

The recall specifically targets certain Honda vehicle models, namely the 2018-2023 Odyssey minivans, 2019-2022 Pilot SUVs, and 2019-2023 Passport SUVs. Owners of these vehicles are urged to take prompt action to address the potential issue.

The U.S. Coast Guard shared a heartbreaking update on the deep-sea submersible that embarked on a voyage to explore the century-old Titanic wreck. Tragically, the submersible, known as Titan, was found in pieces after a catastrophic implosion. This devastating incident resulted in the loss of all five individuals on board. Following a multinational five-day search, a robotic diving vehicle deployed from a Canadian ship made the grim discovery of a debris field from the submersible.

The debris field from the Titan was located on the seabed, approximately 1,600 feet (488 metres) away from the bow of the Titanic. It was found at a depth of 2 1/2 miles (4 km), in a remote corner of the North Atlantic. U.S. Coast Guard Rear Admiral John Mauger informed reporters about the tragic outcome of the search effort. The depth and remote location made the recovery operation challenging and sorrowful.

Operated by OceanGate Expeditions, the Titan had gone missing when it lost contact with its surface support ship during a scheduled dive to the renowned shipwreck. The submersible had been in operation for about an hour and 45 minutes, out of the planned two-hour dive. The sudden loss of communication sparked concern and initiated the extensive search operation involving multiple countries.

Coast Guard officials confirmed the discovery of five significant fragments belonging to the 22-foot (6.7-meter) Titan within the debris field. The fragments included the vessel’s tail cone and two sections of the pressure hull. However, there was no mention of any sightings of human remains. Rear Admiral Mauger indicated that the nature of the debris field was consistent with a catastrophic implosion, further confirming the tragic fate of the submersible and its occupants.

Prior to the Coast Guard’s official announcement, OceanGate released a statement expressing the absence of survivors among the five men on board the ill-fated Titan. The victims included Stockton Rush, the founder and CEO of OceanGate, who was piloting the submersible during the mission. The other passengers were British billionaire and explorer Hamish Harding, Pakistani-born businessman Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman, both British citizens, and renowned French oceanographer and Titanic expert Paul-Henri Nargeolet.

OceanGate paid tribute to these individuals, highlighting their adventurous spirit, love for exploration, and dedication to protecting the world’s oceans. The company extended their heartfelt condolences to the families of the five souls who tragically lost their lives during this mission. India has long been seen by Washington as a check on China’s expanding dominance in the Indo-Pacific, though Delhi has never been entirely at ease with the label.

Mr. Modi did not specifically mention China when speaking to Congress, but he did refer to “dark clouds of coercion and confrontation casting their shadow over the Indo-Pacific.”

Analysts claim that India’s heavy reliance on Russian arms supplies and its “time-tested ties” with Moscow are the main reasons why India has not yet publicly chastised Russia.

Washington and Delhi’s relationship has been strained as a result, but Mr. Biden decided to emphasise the good, stating that the two nations’ relationships were stronger than ever. It was even described as “one of the defining relationships of the 21st century” by him.

Mr. Modi concurred, telling the US Congress that this was the union of the two greatest democracies in the world. He added that the friendship would “play a crucial role in enhancing the strength of the entire world.” “A new chapter had been added,” he continued, to the comprehensive and strategic alliance between the two nations. 

But not everyone was having a good time. For cracking down on dissent, the Indian prime leader has come in for increasing amounts of criticism. His Hindu nationalist administration has also come under fire for failing to do more to safeguard minorities from discrimination and violence. However, despite the demonstrations that accompanied Mr. Modi’s visit to the US, the diaspora, which is sizable and powerful and includes many CEOs from Silicon Valley, who welcomed him.

However, a number of liberal Democrats abstained from his speech before Congress. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was one of them and stated on Twitter that those with “deeply troubling human rights records” should not be allowed state visits, the highest level of diplomatic procedure in the US.

The two nations struck agreements with General Electric and Micron and consented to resolve six pending disputes at the World Trade Organisation. A handcrafted, ancient American book galley from the early 20th century will be given to PM Modi by US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden as the formal gift. 

President Biden and first wife Jill Biden also exchanged special presents with PM Modi at the event. US President Joe Biden received a unique Mysore sandalwood box from PM Modi that was created by an expert craftsman from Jaipur, Rajasthan. The Lord Ganesha murti, which was created by a family of Kolkata silversmiths working in their fifth generation, is kept in the box.  

A diya (oil lamp), which is kept in a sacred place in every Hindu home, is also included in the box. US First Lady Dr. Jill Biden received a 7.5-carat green diamond from PM Modi. The diamond has the chemical and visual characteristics of earth-mined diamonds. It is also environmentally friendly because it was created using environmentally diverse resources like solar and wind energy, according to some sources. 

It should be noted that the Central government indicated in the Union Budget 2023–24 that it will give a research and development grant to one of the IITs for a duration of five years in order to promote the manufacturing of lab-grown diamonds. A proposal to lower customs taxes on “lab-grown diamond seeds” was also included in the Budget in an effort to lower the cost of producing such diamonds.

How are lab-grown diamonds made? What are they?

CVD diamonds are another name for lab-grown diamonds. Chemical vapour deposition, or CVD in this case, refers to the method used to create these diamonds. They go through roughly the same procedure chemically as diamonds that are found in nature.

To create the seed for a lab-grown diamond, a tiny layer of a natural diamond is first sliced. This seed, which is made entirely of carbon, is polished before being put inside a plasma reactor.

The temperature and pressure inside the plasma reactor are identical to those found beneath the Earth’s surface, where diamonds naturally form. In actuality, other contaminants and gases also penetrate natural diamonds. The situation with lab-grown diamonds is different.

On the original seed, carbon atoms eventually start to separate and form layers. In the end, this results in a rough lab-grown diamond that is identical to a rough natural diamond. The final shape of this raw diamond is achieved through cutting and polishing.

The Airport Express Line in Delhi has undergone a major upgrade, allowing customers to travel faster. The line, which connects New Delhi with Dwarka Sec-21 through the Indira Gandhi International Airport, now travels at a speed of 110 kmph instead of 100 kmph. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) stated that this speed improvement sets a new benchmark for metro systems in India.

As a result of the renovation, the travel time between the two terminal stations has been reduced by four minutes to just under 19 minutes. It now takes 15 minutes to reach Shivaji Stadium from the airport, and 16 minutes to reach the airport from New Delhi. Officials have reported that the airport is now much closer to Rajiv Chowk, which can be reached in 15 minutes due to this speed enhancement. The DMRC plans to further increase the speed to 120 kmph, and eventually 132 kmph on this route.

In March, the operational speed was increased from 90 kmph to 100 kmph after obtaining the necessary approvals from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS). Additionally, the DMRC has introduced passenger-friendly measures such as quick and cashless ticketing options through QR codes and WhatsApp-based ticketing, eliminating the need for visitors, especially those arriving from abroad, to go to ticket counters and wait in line.

WhatsApp has introduced a convenient feature that simplifies the process of purchasing metro tickets. However, it’s important to note that this service is currently in its experimental phase, and therefore, ticket booking is limited to specific stations as part of a pilot project. Presently, commuters can utilize this facility at stations like New Delhi, Shivaji Stadium, Dhaula Kaun, Delhi Aerocity, IGI Airport, and Dwarka Sector 21. Nevertheless, the good news is that additional stations are anticipated to be included soon, expanding the availability of this service to more destinations.
