Instagram, the popular Social Media platform was down on May 21st, Sunday, and is now back. Instagram was back up for most users, the Meta platform stated on Sunday, after a technical issue that disrupted services to numerous users had been resolved.

As per a statement by a Meta spokesperson, “Earlier today, a technical issue caused some people to have trouble accessing Instagram. We resolved the issue as quickly as possible for everyone who was impacted.”

However, Instagram did not reveal the number of platform users affected by the sudden disruption. As per Outage tracking website ‘Downdetector.com’ more than 100,000 incidents in the United States, 24,000 in Canada and over 56,000 in Britain were reported. 180,000+ users reported the issues of not being properly able to access their Instagram handle at the peak of the outage.

As per several reports, the outage started at around 3:00pm PT and the outage lasted for quite some time. During this outage phase which caused frustration among people, several users took to Twitter and complained about being unable to log in, post pictures, reels or even view their feed. As more and more people took to Twitter and Facebook to complain about the outage, Instagram eventually acknowledged the outage on the bird app and tweeted that “working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible.” Lastly, Instagram was back up and running by around 7:00 PM PT.

This is not the first time that the social media platform has experienced such an outage. In recent times, Instagram has witnessed numerous such outages. In 2019, Facebook and Instagram both went down for six hours, affecting millions of users around the world.

Additionally, Twitter, in 2020, went down for more than an hour, causing widespread disruption.These outages are a reminder that social media platforms are complex systems that can be vulnerable to outages.

After losing to Gujarat Titans by six wickets in the final league stage game on Sunday at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) was eliminated from contention for the IPL 2023 Playoffs. 

Mumbai Indians were able to earn a position in the IPL Playoffs with a fourth-place finish thanks to RCB’s loss. In 16 editions, Mumbai Indians (MI) achieved their tenth Playoff qualification.

Virat Kohli’s record-breaking eighth IPL century helped the club reach 197 before RCB slipped up. However, the Titans, who collected 20 points from 14 games, set up the chase with a brilliant counter-attacking knock from Shubman Gill.

Gujarat Titans (GI) were 59/1 after 7 overs thanks to a partnership between Shubman Gill and Vijay Shankar. GT dominated the power play but lost Wriddhiman Saha early; however, they appeared to be on track to surpass RCB’s 198-point goal. Saha was removed by Mohammed Siraj so that RCB could draw first blood.

Virat Kohli scored 101 runs to lead RCB to 197/5 in 20 overs as he hammered his second consecutive century. To advance to the IPL 2023 playoffs, RCB must win, while Gujarat Titans needed 198 to triumph. Anuj Rawat scored 23 in 15 balls and Faf du Plessis scored 28 in 19 balls to help his team’s total reach 197 runs.   Only Shikhar Dhawan and Jos Buttler have scored back-to-back hundreds in IPL history, and Kohli is the second.

In an effort to push Royal Challengers Bangalore over the 200-run threshold, Virat Kohli scored fifty runs, which enabled RCB to reach 132/4 in just 14 overs. Four overs remained as Kohli was joined for the final 30 balls by Dinesh Karthik. Following Mohammed Shami’s dismissal of Michael Bracewell at 26 off 16, Gujarat Titans made a strong comeback.

After 12 overs, Royal Challengers Bangalore reached 112/3 thanks in large part to Virat Kohli, who scored fifty runs. Later, as the movie was released, Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, announced a ban on the movie citing Law and Order risk. The move was challenged by the filmmakers in the Supreme Court of India and eventually the Apex Court lifted the official ban on the movie in West Bengal along with lifting  a de-facto ban in the Southern State of Tamil Nadu. However, despite the ban being lifted by the Apex Court, numerous people on Social Media platforms like Twitter and Facebook have complained of not being able to Book Tickets online in both the states. 

The movie has been a subject of massive controversy due to the trailer showing figures of 32,000 women from Kerala being forced to convert to Islam and eventually recruited to ISIS. The figure was later omitted from the trailer.

However, when it comes to the Box Office collection, the movie which is performing well could have done far more better had it been allowed to be screened in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. As per the Trade Experts, the ban has resulted in a loss of at least Rs 10 crore-Rs 15 crore (Rs 100 million-Rs 150 million) and that’s the margin by which it might stay under the lifetime total of The Kashmir Files eventually. Also, the release of Fast X featuring Vin Diesel has also impacted the collection of the movie. The Kerala Story minted Rs 80 crore (Rs 800 million) in its first week, the second week saw over Rs 90 crore (Rs 900 million) coming in. The third week will get about Rs 45 crore- Rs 48 crore (Rs 450 million-Rs 480 million).

On May 18, Russia attacked Ukrainian City of Odesa and Kharkiv, killing two civilians and leaving five others injured as per the local Ukrainian authorities. As per local media, a residential building was hit directly in the village of Tsyrkuny situated in the northeastern Kharkiv Oblast. As per Oleh Syniehubov, the Governor, a 52-year-old man was also killed in the attack, and two more were injured and as of now, all the people who were injured have been hospitalised.

Since the special military operation commenced on Feb 24 last year, Kharkiv has been under massive attack from Russian air forces due to its proximity to the Russian border. According to Serhii Bratchuk, a Russian overnight missile attack on Odesa killed one and injured three people.

As per Ukrainian authorities, Russia launched numerous missile attacks against Ukraine at around 9:00 p.m. on May 17 which lasted till early 5:30 a.m. on May 18. The attack included firing 22 long-range X-101/X-555 missiles from two Tu-160s and eight Tu-95s, 6 Kalibr cruise missiles fired from the Black Sea. Additionally, 2 Iskander missiles from ground-based operational-tactical missile systems were also launched against Kyiv.

As per the General Staff, the Air Defense of Ukraine allegedly downed 29 out of 30 Russian missiles, two kamikaze drones, and two reconnaissance drones. These attacks once again proved that the main target of the Russian Forces was Kyiv. According to Kyiv Oblast Chief of Police, Andrii Nebytov, the attack had no significant damage and nor were there any casualties.

The previous mass attack came on 16th May, during which Ukrainian air defence successfully shot down 25 missiles targeting the Ukrainian territory overnight in which 6 Kinzhal ballistic missiles were also fired. The General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces stated that it recorded 23 airstrikes and 36 shelling over the past one day against Ukraine’s  armed forces and civilian and military settlements.

As per the Ukrainian military, Russian forces also attacked Sumy, Chernihiv, Luhansk, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson oblasts on 18th May.

Chief Minister-designate Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM D K Shivakumar will take the oath in Bengaluru tomorrow, breaking a four-day deadlock over the formation of the government in Karnataka. Leaders of numerous opposition parties are anticipated to attend.

Shortly after he was formally chosen the leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) at a conference of the newly elected party MLAs, both Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar met with Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot to stake claim to form the government. According to authorities, a third-year student at Shiv Nadar University in Greater Noida allegedly killed his female classmate on campus before killing himself in the guys’ dorm. According to the authorities, both were BA Sociology third-year students who were 21 years old and living on campus in the dorms for males and girls. 

What did the Greater Noida deputy commissioner of police say?

“On Thursday at 1:30 pm, Shiv Nadar University administrative staff notified the police that a female student had been shot and killed by a classmate outside the dining hall. The Kanpur-born student was transported right away to Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida, where she was declared dead,” the deputy commissioner of police, in Greater Noida said in a statement.

“A firearm made in the country was found there. The male pupil passed away suddenly. According to preliminary investigation, both students had been dating for a while before their relationships suddenly collapsed”, the deputy commissioner continued.

What was captured on camera?

The incident, according to the investigator, was recorded by the CCTV cameras. Despite having glass doors, the hallway was secured. Around 1, the two students met outside. On either side of the hall are the dorms for boys and girls. The students could be seen cuddling and conversing on the CCTV footage. Presumably a gift, the male student had brought something with him to deliver to the female. She was shot after declining the package, as could be observed.

She was shot in the abdomen by the male student after she was observed rejecting the package. After being shot, she attempted to fight the attacker, but he shot her again, and she fell to the ground. After that, the individual was spotted running in the direction of the boys’ dormitory,” the investigator told Hindustan Times.

Although no one saw the shooting because the university has been on summer break since May 17, there may have been witnesses.

Shiv Nadar University released the following statement: “We are very sorry and disturbed at the untimely loss of lives of two university students today. Authorities are currently looking into the incident, and we are keeping a careful eye on everything. Other inhabitants of the hostel are safe. Our priority still remains the well-being of the students, teachers, and other employees who reside on our campus. We are cooperating with the authorities in the investigation. Our deep and heartfelt condolences go out to the families of the deceased, we are surely supporting them in every way possible.” 

On Wednesday, Prince Harry and Meghan (his wife) alleged that the royal couple were involved in a “near catastrophic car chase” in New York on a previous night, while being aggressively chased by “a ring of highly aggressive paparazzi.” As per a spokesperson of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex: Doria Ragland, Meghan Markel’s mother and the couple were chased by media photographers relentlessly for more than 2 hours.

The spokesperson stated “While being a public figure comes with a level of interest from the public, it should never come at the cost of anyone’s safety.” However, the spokesperson did not clearly state whether Prince Harry, Meghan or Ragland were injured during the incident or not but indeed added that the alleged chase resulted in several near-collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians and two police personnel of New York City.

A spokesperson of New York Police Department on Wednesday confirmed to The Times  that the officers “assisted the private security team of the the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.” As per Jualian Phillips, the Deputy Commissioner of New York Police Department, “There were numerous photographers that made their transport challenging,” He further added that “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived at their destination and there were no reported collisions, summonses, injuries, or arrests in regard.”
