Recently a case was filed to cybercrime regarding harassment call received from ICICI Bank executive. The incident took place in city of Uttar Pradesh. Top of it police didn’t even bother to call the victim when the complaint was filled.

Let’s know what had happened in the case. Victim complained that calls were made to the people to whom they had made any payment through UPI. This was highlighted when one of the known of victim claimed that they are receiving calls on their name and asking for money to be repaid in abusive manner. This pattern followed among 3-4 people. Immediately victim lodged complaint in Cyber Crime and given a written complain to nearest police station.

How this works?

When you apply for any loan or credit card you give consent to bank to retrieve your bank statement and details. In the bank details the payment made through UPI is shown and from there the bank or their recovery agency abstract the number and call them harass on your name and ask them to pay. These numbers are generally of your Dhobi, Maid, Relatives or Neighbours. This has been confirmed by a source who is running a Recovery Agency based in India, he claims that they get every confidential information of customers. They do multiple calls; they threaten you on the name of Advocates and Police.

While talking to a senior in banking industry, he said ” this is very common practice of private banks and credit borrowers don’t come up and complain against these issues.” 

There are many cases reported due these harassment and mental pressure people died by suicide. 

According to the RBI, customer confidentiality and the integrity of the credit card issuing company must be upheld by third-party agents during debt recovery. 

Neither card issuers nor their agents should invade the policyholder’s privacy or intimidate them.

It is clearly mentioned in the guidelines of RBI that banks can only call the borrower or visit their premises with consent. They cannot outreach any customer beyond Bank working hours and no messages or WhatsApp is allowed. Recent case also highlighted that victim received over 300 calls on WhatsApp in a single day and over 500 calls on phone in odd time. 

“It is understood that some banks set very stiff recovery targets or offer high incentives to recovery agents. These have, in turn, induced the recovery agents to use intimidatory and questionable methods for recovery of dues. Banks are, therefore, advised to ensure that the contracts with the recovery agents do not induce adoption of uncivilized, unlawful and questionable behaviour or recovery process.”

The victims and sources name has been kept confidential.

A graduate of Salem College and holder of an MBA in Global Management, Julia’s academic research focused on international cooperation networks, earning her summa cum laude honors.

Monika Koudroglou Truong

The Binge Town is redefining how Indians celebrate by offering a unique mix of private theatres and customized event spaces, quickly becoming a favorite in Bengaluru, Delhi, and Hyderabad.

The Binge Town’s story is one of innovation born out of necessity. During the end phase of COVID-19, when cinemas were still closed, and life felt uncertain, the founders of The Binge Town were looking for their next big idea. A casual Netflix plan sparked a thought: what if people could enjoy their favorite shows and movies on the big screen in private theatres? Starting with a single location in Koramangala, Bengaluru, in January 2022, The Binge Town quickly grew into a one-stop destination for private celebrations.

“We started with the idea of private movie screenings but soon realized people wanted more—they wanted decorations, cakes, and personalized touches for birthdays, anniversaries, and surprises. That’s when we pivoted to create the private theatre celebration space we’re known for today,” – says Chetan Agrawal, co-founder of The Binge Town.

Today, The Binge Town offers 46 unique celebration spaces across 13 branches, catering to small groups of 4-6 people, with some rooms accommodating up to 15 guests. Each space features big screens and surround sound systems, blending the magic of the movies with the joy of celebrations. Customers can customize their experience with add-ons like decorations, cakes, food and beverages, gifts, fog entry, and even professional photoshoots. Booking is simple: choose your branch, pay a ₹750 advance, and settle the balance on the day of your celebration. With each theatre offering unique decoration themes, there’s something for everyone.

But what truly sets The Binge Town apart is its ability to go the extra mile for its customers. Agrawal shares a memorable moment: “We once had a group celebrating a bride-to-be but also wanted to surprise their friend with a baby shower. After the first celebration, we completely transformed the room for the baby shower. The mom-to-be was thrilled, and moments like these make us proud of what we’ve built.”

The brand’s innovative services, like fog entry and photoshoots, have become customer favorites. Inspired by grand wedding entries, fog effects were introduced to create a magical experience, and customers love it so much that some opt for 10 or more fog entries to make their celebrations extra special. Photoshoots, too, were added after months of training employees to offer top-notch quality, making every event truly unforgettable.

As of July 2024, The Binge Town operates:

• Five branches in Bengaluru with 14 celebration spaces
• Four branches in Delhi with 20 celebration spaces
• Four branches in Hyderabad with 12 celebration spaces

Expanding to cities like Delhi posed new challenges, from adapting to different customer preferences to training employees for local cultural nuances. Yet, The Binge Town has thrived by embracing these differences and consistently prioritizing customer satisfaction. With over 50,000 bookings completed, the love and support from customers have fueled its rapid growth. The founders, alongside their 150-member team, have poured their hearts into making celebrations memorable, accessible, and affordable for everyone.
