RN Ravi, the Governor of Tamil Nadu is seen being in a confrontation with the MK Stalin led DMK government. It all started with Ravi walking out of the Legislative Assembly after skipping some parts of speeches during the Governor’s Address. 

It seems that confirmation between the Governors and the State Government across India has become a new norm. Be it Kerala, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and now Tamil Nadu, Raj Bhawans are seen giving a tough time to the state governments. Recently, the same was witnessed down the south, in Tamil Nadu. It all started when Governor Ravindra Narayana Ravi, a retired IPS officer of the Kerala cadre, started to read out the Governor’s Address to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.

As convention goes, the speech was written by the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and Ravi, as governor, was duty bound to read it to the assembly. The problem commenced after Ravi omitted portions of the speech. This angered CM M K Stalin and other DMK leaders who felt this gubernatorial breach of convention was not correct. Ravi began the omissions with the 12th point of the speech where the state government stated, ‘This Government accords highest priority to maintenance of law and order in the State and is taking all necessary measures to ensure that the State continues to be a haven of peace and tranquillity, free from any form of violence.

‘With utmost concern for the future of our youth, the Hon’ble Chief Minister is determined to crack down on the distribution and consumption of drugs and narcotic substances with an iron hand. This Government is continuously taking measures to prevent drug smuggling including stringent enforcement of law and awareness creation among people.’

Ravi also omitted point 64 which stated: ‘Since this Government took office … In 2021, the State was severely affected by heavy flooding and rains, and normal life was disrupted. Based on the learnings of that disaster, this Government has effectively managed the recent cyclone and rains.

‘The State’s economy was in doldrums due to several reasons including Covid. Within the last year and a half, due to the economic reforms, welfare schemes and development works carried out by this Government, the economy has been revived and the State has been marching ahead in the path of development.

‘Because of stellar management of law and order, Tamil Nadu continues to be a haven of peace. As a result, the State is attracting numerous foreign investments and is becoming a forerunner in all sectors.’ Point 65, which Ravi ignored, stated: ‘This Government is founded on the ideals of social justice, self-respect, inclusive growth, equality, women empowerment, secularism and compassion towards all.

‘Following the principles and ideals of stalwarts like Thanthai Periyar, Annal Ambedkar, Perunthalaivar Kamarajar, Perarignar Anna and Muthamizh Arignar, Kalaignar, this Government has been delivering the much-acclaimed Dravidian model of governance to its people.’

After Chief Minister Stalin moved a resolution, even as Ravi was speaking, that the speech was read, the governor walked out of the assembly.

The Delhi government DIP (Directorate of Information & Publicity) issued a notice to the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to recover Rs. 163.62 crores that were spent on advertisements allegedly in violation of guidelines set by the Supreme Court in the year 2015. It also warned that the AAP headquarters might be sealed if the party fails to deposit the money in 10 days. The notice talks about all the money spent on advertisements published outside the national capital. It was issued on Wednesday, days after Vinai Kumar Saxena, Delhi’s lieutenant governor directed Naresh Kumar, Delhi’s chief secretary to recover Rs.97 crore that AAP spent on advertisements in violation of the guidelines. 

An official who gave a statement on the condition of anonymity said that legal action that might involve attachment of party properties would be taken as per Saxena’s order. The total amount of Rs 163.62 crore includes the principal amount of Rs 99.31 crore till march 2017 and interest of Rs. 64.31 crores. Saxena’s order further cited the findings of a Union government-appointed panel that had three members who in September 2016 concluded that the Government of Delhi was guilty of misusing taxpayers’ money on their personal advertisements. The panel stated that AAP should reimburse the funds. 

If AAP does not make the required deposit, Saxena ordered legal measures, including the attachment of properties. He also commanded that advertisements published after 2019 need to be examined. The animosity between Saxena and the AAP government is expected to worsen due to this notice. They have clashed over a number of investigations into the AAP government, among other things. However, the AAP did not immediately respond to the warning yet. On the other hand, according to AAP’s top spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj, Saxena’s decision from December about advertisements was unlawful, and the lieutenant governor lacked the authority to recoup the money.

The local government has designated the holy town of Joshimath in Uttarakhand, which has a population of about 20,000, as disaster-prone. Joshimath, a hill town in Uttarakhand, has raised concerns due to its sinking ground, which has resulted in fractures emerging in more than 700 houses and endangering communities throughout much of the town.

The local government has deemed the sacred town, which has 20,000 residents, to be disaster-prone. The region around Joshimath has been declared disaster-prone. Joshimath and the surrounding areas have been declared construction-free zones, according to the Chamoli DM.

The sacred town of Joshimath is said to have been constructed on the site of a long-ago landslide. This small Himalayan town was under increased strain due to increasing urbanisation. Researchers asserted that because urbanisation interferes with natural water drainage, undermines slopes, and causes an uncontrolled release of water, it has historically gotten the city’s condition worse.

One of the main causes of widespread landslides in the area is excessive building. According to DP Kanungo, head scientist of the CSIR, as many as 128 landslides were reported in the Chamoli-Joshimath area between 2009 and 2012. 

A prior independent group to survey the area was established in June 2021 at the request of nearby citizens. The committee also suggested an elaborate plan, stating that “additional excavation efforts will submerge Joshimath,” survey by multi-institutional experts. 

Initiatives by the Government 

A top official announced on Wednesday that buildings, such as homes and hotels, that have developed wide fissures and are in danger of collapsing would be razed within a week.

Every afflicted family would receive Rs 1.5 lakh immediately as compensation for losing their home, the government declared. “For impacted households, the Chief Minister has offered interim assistance of Rs. 150,000. Along with this, individuals in need would also receive Rs 50,000 in supplementary aid,” R. Meenakshi Sundaram, the CM of Uttarakhand’s secretary, stated.

The locals who were impacted by the landslide will get market-based compensation. The Office of CM Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that the market rate would be determined after considering ideas from the interested parties.

The incidence of prostate cancer (PCa) is rapidly increasing globally. It is the second most striking cancer and the sixth most fatal cancer among men. Also, studies reveal a higher incidence in African, Caucasian and African-American men than Asian men. Nevertheless, awareness and early screening is the right way to prevent prostate cancer and live a healthy life.

Dr Sridhar P S, a noted radiation oncologist in India, states, ‘With regular screenings and proactive management, individuals can help ensure they receive the best possible outcomes when dealing with prostate cancer. Also, the treatment of prostate cancer has improved greatly with a range of treatment options such as surgery, radiation, hormone therapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapy; patients have a better survival rate than other cancers.’

Dr Sridhar PS narrates a decade old case of 71 YO prostate cancer patient who recovered through performed 5 Cyberknife sessions, and his PSA of 21 was reduced to less than 1 with no side effects. After a decade, the patient’s PSA levels had risen along with the size. He sought Dr Sridhar PS treatment for prostate cancer who then performed a Cyberknife session and the size decreased. Hence, Cyberknife is effective at local, post operative, recurrence after radiotherapy.

Symptoms of prostate cancer include difficulty urinating, frequent night time urination, pain or burning feeling during urination, and blood in the urine or semen. It is important to monitor for these symptoms, especially as a person ages. Men after 45 with a family history of cancer should seek early and regular screening, while men above 50 should opt for annual screening for prostate and other cancers. Additionally, routine screening, such as a digital rectal exam and blood testing for prostate-specific antigen (PSA), can help detect early warning signs of this disease. Unfortunately, most men shield away or delay their examination, which does not work out in their favour as late detection does complicate and delay the recovery process.

Though cancerous, prostrate tumors grow slowly and when detected in early stages, patients respond better. In addition, patients have lived up to ten years post-diagnosis. Therefore, the treatment of prostate cancer is quite comprehensive. The stage of cancer and the patient’s condition are the two critical factors considered before developing a multi-disciplinary treatment protocol.

Prostate cancer is curable in stages 1 to 3 and, to a certain extent, in stage 4A. Patients are treated with radiation and/or androgen deprivation therapy. Regarding cancer at Stage 4B, doctors prescribe treatment to slow down tumour growth.

Hormone therapy involves blocking the production of testosterone to impair the growth of tumors and also introducing newer drugs such as abiraterone & enzlamide to help treat cancer resistant to hormonal therapy.

Advancements in radiation therapy help precisely deliver radiation to prostate cancer cells. The three types of radiation therapy used to treat prostate cancer are External beam radiation, Brachytherapy (internal radiation) and radiopharmaceuticals.

External beam radiation therapies (EBRT) are useful in treating early-stage cancers or relieving bone pain if cancer has affected the bone. Also, this is a painless therapy and takes very little time. However, setting up the patient to receive the treatment is a long process. The advantage of EBRT is accuracy in delivery and reduced radiation exposure to healthy tissues surrounding the tumor.

Three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3D-CRT) seeks the help of special computers to locate the prostate for a multi-directional approach of radiation beams. This therapy is equally precise in delivery while causing minimal damage to healthy organs and tissues.

Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) are recently advanced therapies that deliver radiation with higher degrees of precision; hence, the patient faces minimal side effects.

Stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) is yet another technique that delivers larger doses of radiation with the help of advanced image-guided techniques. This therapy administers larger radiation doses, and hence few days are required to complete the full course of treatment. SBRT is synonymous with X-Knife, CyberKnife, and Clinic, the names of machines that deliver radiation.

This technique uses advanced image-guided techniques to deliver large doses of radiation to a precise area, such as the prostate. Because there are large doses of radiation in each dose, the entire course of treatment is given over just a few days.

Brachytherapy or seed implantation, or interstitial radiation therapy involves the use of small-sized seeds or pellets in the prostate. It is recommended for men with slow-growing early-stage prostate cancer. In addition, the combination of Brachytherapy and external radiation is recommended for men who have a considerable risk of cancer growing external to the prostate.

Radiopharmaceuticals, as the name suggests, are drugs with radioactive elements. These drugs are injected through a vein and emit radiation to destroy the cancer cells. These drugs are capable of reaching cancer spread anywhere in the body.

It is important to remember that prostate cancer is treatable and managed successfully. Many men can lead normal, healthy lives after diagnosis and treatment. More individuals are living longer with this disease with increased awareness and early detection. The patients need to speak up and get the required help to maximize their quality of life. The much-anticipated Pathaan Trailer starring Shah Rukh Khan, John Abraham and Deepika Padukone is out now. The 2 minute 34 second trailer was released today on Yash Raj Films (YRF) YouTube channel.

The trailer of upcoming Shah Rukh Khan starrer Pathaan was released today at sharp 11:00 am and within 11 minutes of the launch, the trailer has clocked 6 Lakh views and 220K Likes on YouTube. SRK, in the trailer, was seen in a solid spy kind of an avatar, defending India from evil terror forces. The two and half minutes long trailer has massive action seen with rockets being fired, fighter helicopters shooting machine guns and what not.

The trailer starts with the introduction of John Abraham who is seen playing the role of protagonist who has an evil eye on India. As the trailer moves, we are introduced to Dimple Kapadia who is likely working for the security agencies in India and then she introduces Shah Rukh Khan who is a spy and is tasked with protecting India against the Outfit X, a private terror group who works on contractual basis. 

Later, we see Deepika Padukone who is also likely to be a spy as she is heard saying the dialogue “Main Ek Soldier Huin Pathaan, Tumhari Tarah.” She proposes to Pathaan (Played by Shah Rukh Khan) that they should work together in order to save and secure the Nation against the terror group.

The movie, directed by Siddharth Anand, is slated to release this 25th January and as per the trailer, it has an unprecedented level of well-choreographed action sequence. The film is said to have been shot in 8 different countries and has a massive budget. Pathaan is already creating a massive buzz on all social media platforms with people calling for its Boycott by trending the #BoycottPathaan. The reason for the same, is that Deepika Padukone was seen wearing a Orange Bikini in a Steamy Song titled ‘Besharam Rang’. The right wingers and some of the leaders of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) asked for the Boycott of the film by stating that the makers have insulted the Saffron Colour that is sacred in Hinduism. People also questioned the intentions of makers of Pathaan and accused them of promoting Nudity and Vulgarity through the movie. 

Recently, Pathaan was into more controversy as an alleged Censor Board Report of the movie was leaked on the Social Media in which the Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC) also called Censor Board asked for some alterations and cuts in the movie. 

Now, with the trailer of Pathaan out, it is clear that it has a Deshbhakti angle to it as Shah Rukh Khan was seen saving the Mother Land (Bharatmata). It is to be seen whether people still calls for Boycott Pathaan or will the SRK starrer be a massive hit at the Box-Office.

Murshid, or Murshikka to his lacs of fans, started very young with stunting in the early 2000s. Back then, accessing a 150 cc motorcycle was a challenge. Murshid and his team, the Bandit Bikers, would borrow or modify motorcycles and perform daredevil stunts in empty plots, highways, and soon after at sold-out venues. Stunting was still considered a miscreant act and usually met with frowns and general disapproval. With avenues opening up, Murshi made a name for himself and soon rose through the ranks in India and even got an opportunity to ride and perform with the legendary Chris Pfeiffer. Being someone who is never satisfied with immediate achievements, Murshid set his eyes on organizing and conducting races.
