Anna Hazare sharply criticises Kejriwal government for its liquor policy

The India Saga Saga |

In his letter to Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, Mumbai social activist Anna Hazare sharply criticised Kejriwal’s government for its liquor policy. This was Anna’s first letter to Arvind Kejriwal ever since he joined office. Hazare mentioned that Kejriwal has forgotten what all he wrote in his book ‘Swaraj’ and is ‘drunk on power’. On Tuesday while speaking to the media, Hazare stated, “I haven’t sent Kejriwal a letter since he became chief minister, but because this is such a serious social issue, I decided to speak out. The Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22 is utterly wrong and will destroy families, particularly women. It is because of this policy, our youth, our country’s power, would be destroyed.”

Further accusing Kejriwal of not being willing to talk, Hazare also pointed out that in his book ‘Swaraj’ , Kejriwal suggested solutions to many problems which led to people putting their faith in him. However, it seems like he left his ideology behind after he became the chief minister of Delhi. In his book, ‘Swaraj,’ Kejriwal described how liquor licences are obtained by bribing authorities on the suggestions of politicians. The proliferation of alcohol stores, for which no vote is held, corrupts families. Kejriwal’s answer to the problem was to provide liquor store licences only with the permission of the relevant gramme panchayat and 90% of women attending the gramme sabha.

CM Arvind Kejriwal and deputy CM Manish Sisodia were a part of Hazare’s Jan Andolan to fight for the Lokpal in the country in the year 2012. Remembering and highlighting that Anna Hazare said, “On September 18, 2012, AAP proposed a political route during a Team Anna meet. You forgot that the movement’s goal was not to become a political party. There was a need to educate and raise awareness among the general people. If it had been done, the country would not have adopted a wrong alcohol policy.”

The Kejriwal-led cabinet approved the liquor policy in 2021. However, the government withdrew it after a complaint was filed by the CBI alleging corruption in the liquor policy.

Tara Chand along with 64 other leaders quit Congress in support of Ghulam Nabi Azad

The India Saga Saga |

On Tuesday along with Tara Chand, who is the former Jammu & Kashmir’s deputy chief minister, 64 other leaders quit the Congress citing a leadership crisis. This was also done by them to show their support for Ghulam Nabi Azad who is most likely going to make an announcement about the launch of a new political outfit as early as this weekend. In his letter of resignation from the Congress on Friday, Azad criticised the way the party was run and blamed Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi for destroying consultative processes. After a few hours, six former ministers and MPs from Jammu and Kashmir did the same.

Gharu Ram, Abdul Majid Wani, Balwan Singh and Manohar Lal Sharma, are a few of the leaders that resigned on Tuesday in Azad’s support. All of them submitted a joint resignation letter to Sonia Gandhi who is the Interim Congress President. They stated that they have been associated with Congress for decades. However, the treatment given to them was humiliating. Now that their mentor and leader Azad has left the party, they believe that they should come out as well and join him for J&K’s bright future.

Tara Chand gave a statement saying, “The leadership was failing miserably and this led us to part ways with them. We then requested Azad to lead us and assured him of our full support. He accepted our request and now together we all will work towards bringing improvements.” Chand further added, “Multiple senior BJP leaders are also not happy with certain decisions made by the ruling party. Hence, many of them have also expressed their willingness to join hands with Ghulam Nabi Azad.”

Azad expressed his joy in a Facebook post that people and political figures from all over J&K were reaching out to them with heartfelt greetings and a strong desire to start over. “I won’t disappoint them. All of us, including Christians, Buddhists, Sikhs, Muslims, and others, shall step into a new era of advancement and peace in J&K by working together. We have suffered enough. It is time to stand up straight and start walking together to reclaim what we have lost.”  On September 4, Azad will hold a public gathering in Jammu. Then, on September 12, he will hold a rally in Srinagar after spending four days in his hometown of Chenab Valley.

Investment in strategic PR for the approaching festive season is important now, more than ever

The India Saga Saga |

It is the last quarter of the year and with this, it is the commencement of the Festive Season. This means that brands would be competing on the grounds of marketing and target audiences to grab the attention of the consumers. Unlike the traditional times, the world of branding has witnessed a 360-degree transformation in this era of digitization. Digital media and social media have created a completely different foundation for businesses to reach and interact with the audience. No matter the industry or its size, Public Relations has indeed emerged as an integral part of any organisation for Brand Promotion and Outreach.

According to recent research, India’s retail industry is projected to grow by 9 percent over 2019-2030, rising from US $779 billion in 2019 to US $1,407 billion by 2026, hiking double the percentage of recent years. Evaluating more than the US $1.8 trillion by 2030, the retailers are learning from the more developed markets in the west and applying those brand promotion strategies to their companies. Considering the great Indian festivals, Brand activities and Marketing are also likely to peak as Ganesh Mahotsav, Dussehra/Durga Puja, and Diwali approach. This festive season’s predicted spenders are- FMCG, Consumer Durables, Real Estate, Household Electronics, Apparel, Jewellery, Personal Grooming, and Automobiles.

This is 2022 and without an era of digitization, and the same old traditional marketing techniques are no longer effective in this ever-evolving cut-throat competitive landscape. This is why digital Public Relations solutions have become the need of the hour for businesses to create a buzz during the Festive Season. Brands during this time of the year rush to create a perfect brand strategy and resonate with their target audience. Savin Communication, India’s first PR tech company, is known for its smart and effective Digital PR tools and has assisted various brands across various verticals in curating powerful brand campaigns and strategies. Savin Communication believes that it’s a BRAND new festive season which is an ideal time to implement a successful PR campaign because this is when people tend to indulge and make purchases.

An assertive and results-oriented PR campaign approach should include a strong media outreach to enhance brand recall in holidays through digital venues.

Digital PR Solutions:- The need of the hour

Everyone knows that the holiday season is the best time to promote their products and services. The months of August to February are crucial for digital media placements because of holidays like Navrartri, Diwali and New Year. It is, therefore, highly advised to concentrate on a well-built PR campaign strategy that includes online coverages in some of the renowned publications across India. Savin Communication, a Noida-based Public Relations company has more than 100+ premium national and regional publications onboard, through which they assist brands in getting featured and reaching out to their target audience. With SMART PR and Programmatic PR, Savin Communication has empowered the brands to customise their Digital PR strategies and build credibility through time based, measurable outcomes. By creating an effective social media campaign, selecting the right publications, and tracking the target audience, Savin Communication enables businesses to boost their branding and assists them in staying ahead of their competitors.

Additionally, this is the time of year when gift recommendations featuring their greatest products are published almost daily in print, online, and broadcast media, making it crucial for brands to go for Digital PR solutions. The simple logic for this is- “The more you are visible, the more you get sold.”

Strong Social-Media Campaign

Most surveys and market studies indicate that about 77% of people prefer to use online mode for shopping. This further increases during the Festive Season as online shopping allows consumers to scroll through various options. This is what makes social media platforms a crucial medium for promoting your brand. A rock-solid social media campaign for the brand should be in place, with an emphasis on Instagram in particular. Brand recognition will be enhanced by creating seasonal marketing initiatives to expand your product’s reach through well-known influencers. Promotional discounts, side-by-side comparisons, and most importantly, user reviews should all be used to promote products and increase website traffic.

Irrespective of their size or level of funding, small, mid, or big firms are constantly searching for merchandise that flatters their target market. To achieve this, the brand must set itself apart from competing products. In addition to helping them stay trending in the market, a strong PR and communication plan can boost sales and imprint a brand’s name in the eyes of its consumers. What’s said about a brand can optimise one’s PR Strategy for an inexpensive cost. Catering to the same, Savin Communication has highlighted the most useful PR tools that all brands use in the holiday season to increase their festive outreach and gain a competitive advantage in the market. Marketers can win a lot by staying sharp and acting fast when the festive opportunity arises.

It’s BRAND new Festive Season so are you ready to elevate your brand and be one step ahead?

Partho Dasgupta: “D2M may be the technology that we don’t require”

The India Saga Saga |

The changes in technology in the past decade have taken a big leap. From turning the antenna at just the right angle on our roof to get a signal during the much awaited cricket match to talking about web 5.0 and decentralization, it just seems surreal.

Internet as technology has made things so much easier and given people the independence to choose what they like. The television set was one of the things that used to bring the family together for a shared watching experience every day. However, with recent changes in the demands and technology, the viewing habits of people have become highly personalized. Somehow the joy of watching television together has dwindled.

The arrival of OTT and the change in viewership pattern post covid, has made everyone wonder about the future of traditional Television. Prasar Bharati, which is India’s public broadcaster, comprising of Doordarshan and All India Radio, has also decided to make a leap for the new technology by announcing D2M model for broadcasting. Direct to Mobile or D2M aims at beaming multimedia content directly on the phones. It will be similar to radio where the phone can tap into frequencies broadcast by Prasar Bharti for the content without the use of internet.

Even though it is very progressive and ambitious of Prasar Bharati’s CEO Shashi Shekhar Vempati to spearhead this change but it might be prudent to consider other options as well. Mr. Partho Dasgupta, Former CEO of BARC states, “If Prasar Bharati could own a DTH platform, it could also own an OTT one  and the growth of the internet and upcoming 5G will make its coverage large enough simply putting its content on OTT will give access to mobiles every other citizen will be able to watch and hear”. Since OTT platforms have become insanely popular it makes sense to use this existing technology instead of spending crores of taxpayer’s money for this broadcasting system that may not attract viewers as much.

The main use of D2M seems to be to put an emergency alert system in place so that people may receive emergency messages from the PM or President in case of an emergency. “In a time when news channels run live telecasts of news, it becomes redundant to spend so much money on an alert system,” says Partho Dasgupta. The ‘Emergency alert system’ in the US which became operational in 1997, has rarely been used for emergency broadcast since its inception due to the ubiquity of news coverage. It is mainly used to issue a warning regarding local emergencies like flash floods, AMBER alerts, and other civil emergencies. Also, all broadcast televisions; satellite radio stations as well as multichannel video programming distributors are legally required to participate in the system. Similar laws could be put into place in India to deliver emergency news.

“This mass rollout of the technology will require major regulatory and infrastructure changes. Also, an on-boarding of major stakeholder like mobile operators is also going to be a challenge,” says Partho Dasgupta BARC’s Ex CEO. It is a fact that in the North-Eastern states there is a lack of mobile connectivity and states bordering India-Myanmar use Myanmar-based mobile towers. Meghalaya alone has 1164 villages that do not have connectivity. Even though BSNL has approved 352 towers in the northeast, until this happens the plans of D2M are not going to be fruitful.

Kerala has already launched its state-owned OTT platform called ‘CSpace’ developed by the culture department, in association with Kerala State Film Development Corporation which will offer an array of content in the local language. Partho Dasgupta BARC ‘s Ex CEO states “After this other states may also foray into OTT space and prefer it over other means to provide content for their audience. It just goes to show that we just need to use the current options we have instead of draining money on new technology”.

As far as the data consumption is concerned Times group has a proprietary technology (MX Player) that allows a user a view time of 10 hours using only 1 GB data pack. It has a subscription of over 200 million and is the world’s first OTT platform to upgrade its video encoding & compression technology to H.266 (Versatile Video Coding). It slashes data usage for streaming videos by more than half. Such technologies can be considered by Prasar Bharati on OTT platforms for their concern over too much traffic on the internet spectrum.

Phasing out a technology in a country like India and introducing a new one is a mammoth task. Therefore Prasar Bharti should consider OTT as the alternative to D2M as till the time this new technology is developed and rolled out there will be other better advancements in technology.  OTT can be initiated quickly in comparison to D2M and can be changed with changing times.

Chintan Jain: The photographer who captures the brilliance of nature through his lens

The India Saga Saga |

The word ‘Passion’ means different for everyone; however, in the end, it is the thing that keeps people motivated to make their dreams turn into reality. For ages, we have heard and seen the stories of individuals who stay persistent in their dreams and achieve phenomenal heights. This has also been evident in many Bollywood films, for instance, in 3 Idiots, when Farhan Qureshi realizes that his passion is not engineering but photography. He then gains a lot of courage and puts forward the idea in front of his father, and surprisingly he supports him; this eventually leads to Farhan living a life that makes him feel content. Such incidents can also be seen in real life, where people make their passion a profession or balance both. One such person who did the same is the wildlife photographer Chintan Jain.

Hailing from the ‘Land of Kings’, Rajasthan, Chintan Jain has always been close to nature, and in the year 2011, he realized his passion for wildlife photography. He chose business as his profession but gave the same value to his passion, and now it has been more than 10 years that he has been setting a benchmark in the field. Over the years, he mastered one of the most challenging genres of photography, and now each of his shots has an entirely different story. His vigilance has helped him bring his vision into reality through his lens. From animals moving to birds flying, he did it all, and eventually, tiger photography was what enticed him the most, and he made it his forte.

To get even more experienced in his forte Chintan Jain has been visiting national parks and sanctuaries all around India, especially the Ranthambore in Rajasthan and Corbett Park in Uttarakhand. With his understanding of photography and his art of capturing wildlife shots at the right moment, Chintan has been adding captivating photographs to his portfolio. He believes that learning has no age and no barriers; therefore, he collaborates with well-reputable wildlife photographers and bloggers over the internet whenever he gets a chance. This only helped him enhance his skills, widen his sense of creativity, and grasp more knowledge. Most importantly, he learned that to take great shots, it is necessary to keep natural phenomena in regard.

Sharing his journey, Chintan Jain says, “I am a person who always appreciates the beauty of nature, and I wanted to give a chance to people to admire the same. So I did that with my passion for capturing the beauty wildlife carries. At every chance I get, I take photos of nature and wildlife. Additionally, I make sure to make frequent sessions and visit their habitat in various seasons so that I can store different phases in my camera. I even got to experience the Leopard census two times in the year 2018. One was in Jhalana, and the other one was in Kumbhalgarh.”

Being a pioneer in the field, Chintan Jain has gained a lot of experience and has learned to enhance his skills with different photography techniques and equipment. He has a Canon 7d mark 2, 1dx mark 2 canon 500mm f4 IS2, and the list goes on. The main aim of nature photography is to communicate the brilliance of the most majestic environment, nature, and the creatures who live in them. It takes a great understanding of numerous factors to capture these moments in the way one intends to, and Chintan Jain surely has aced that. He also wishes to explore more and face another challenging assignment in the upcoming time.
