Manish Tewari questions fairness of Congress presidential elections

The India Saga Saga |

On Wednesday Congress MP and G-23 leader Manish Tewari raised concerns about the fairness of the upcoming polls for the elections of the party’s new president. He asked the party to make the names of electors for the party president poll public. He said that the names must be made public on the AICC web portal to ensure full transparency and fairness. Tewari also raised an objection on why anyone who is seeking to contest the Congress president’s elections should go to the PCC office for getting the electoral roll. He added that this does not even happen in a club election.

He further posted a series of tweets wherein he reacted to a statement made by Madhusudan Mistry who is the senior Congress leader and the chief of its central election authority (CEA). “With great respect @MD_Mistry Ji How can there be a fair & free election without a publicly open electoral roll? The importance of a fair & free process is that the names & addresses of electors must be transparently published on @INCIndia website,” Manish Tewari’s tweet read which was in reaction to Mistry’s statement to the newspaper that ‘the list is not made public but if a member of our party wants to go through, then they can go and check at the PCC (Pradesh Congress Committee) office.

Tewari’s tweet came at a crucial time when various questions are being raised over the Congress’s presidential elections. Even the former party veteran Ghulam Nami Azad who left the party on August 26 with a letter to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi has multiple concerns regarding presidential elections. Additionally, in recent days it has been observed that Tewari and a few other members have been taking a different stand on issues than the party.

The next Congress presidential elections are due to take place on October 17 and the results will be announced two days later. Sonia Gandhi, who handed up the reins to her son, Rahul Gandhi, in December 2017, returned as party chief in July 2019 after resigning in the aftermath of the ruling BJP’s thrashing in that year’s general elections, the party’s second consecutive defeat. She earlier headed Congress from March 1998 to December 2017.

WHO: Monkeypox cases cross 50,000 mark globally

The India Saga Saga |

On Wednesday WHO’s figures were released which showed that more than 50,000 monkeypox cases were reported in the global outbreak. However, the reports also showed a slowdown in virus transmission in its hotspots of Europe and the United States. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the WHO chief stated that the decline in the new infections is proof that the outbreak could be stopped. The World Health Organization’s dashboard revealed 50,496 cases and 16 deaths reported to the UN agency this year after the outbreak was designated a worldwide public health emergency in July.

Adhanom Ghebreyesus gave a statement in the press conference saying, “The American continent accounts for more than a half of the reported cases and it can be seen that several countries continue to see an increase in cases. However, it is encouraging that the number of cases in Canada is decreasing. “ He further added, “A few of the European countries like Germany and the Netherlands are also witnessing a slowing down in the outbreak. This demonstrates the efficacy of public health interventions and community work to track the spread and control the transmission. All this proves what we have been saying since the beginning that with the correct measures the outbreak can be stopped.”

“To stop the further outbreak of monkeypox there are three important things: firstly we have the evidence that it’s possible, which we are now beginning to see; political will and dedication; and the execution of public health measures in the communities that need them most. There is no need for us to live with monkeypox.” Tedros added.

An increase in monkeypox infections has been reported since the start of May among the men who get intimate with another man. This was outside the African countries where it has long been endemic. On July 24, the WHO triggered its highest level of alarm classifying Monkeypox as a public health emergency which is a global concern, along with Covid-19.

MSRvantage paves way for new technology in healthcare and life sciences

The India Saga Saga |

Mumbai: Global consultants for digital transformation, MSRvantage to provide secure, efficient and seamless systems for organizations in the healthcare segment through technologies like IoT and Blockchain. Technology adoption in the field of healthcare and life sciences has streamed ahead by leaps and bounds. The Life-science and healthcare sector generates and operates with enormous data every day- like clinical trials, patient safety, drug supply chain, inventory management, recall management, etc. Therefore, the life-science sectors face an urgent need to progress technologically in order to keep pace with the fast-growing demands and provide innovative outcomes to the patients. It was crucial for the life science companies to think beyond their core capabilities and prepare themselves for the next generation of the supply chain and the same has been possible because of blockchain technology.

The recent COVID-19 pandemic has drastically impacted the healthcare sector supply chain. The lack of visibility across the supply chain has delayed the flow of information across the network about inventory, dispatch, and known market feedback of essential drugs. All the mentioned challenges have collectively given rise to the importance of protecting and enhancing the life science supply chains, in order to prepare them to be flexible enough to support a sudden surge in production to match the ongoing demands. All the crucial supply chain challenges can be managed through the use of next-gen technologies- like blockchain, to gain enhanced visibility and traceability so that the products or drugs can timely reach the end-users without any demand-supply gap. Using the Internet of Things (IoT), blockchain, etc. the manufacturers can gain better visibility into their supply chains. Therefore, aiding them to make vital business decisions. In addition, platforms like IoT and blockchain help life science sectors eliminate counterfeiting by entrusting clients’ customers and engaging their retailers efficiently.

It should come as no surprise that the most common blockchain healthcare application at the moment is safeguarding our sensitive medical data. Security is a major issue in the healthcare industry. Between 2009 and 2017, security flaws exposed more than 176 million patient records. There has been a rise in the size and frequency of healthcare data breaches over the previous five years, with the most serious breaches affecting up to 80 million people. Sensitive information, including personally identifying information like credit card numbers, is commonly exposed in healthcare data breaches.

Mr. Balaji Kandregula, Vice President, MSRvantage, said, “Blockchain has the potential to maximise security and accessibility in the healthcare sector. Blockchain is a technology that is ideal for security applications because it has the capacity to maintain an unalterable, decentralised, and transparent log of all patient data. In addition, blockchain is both public and private, hiding any person’s identity using complex and secure protocols that can safeguard the sensitivity of medical data. The technology’s decentralized design also makes it possible for patients, doctors, and other healthcare professionals to securely and swiftly exchange the same information.”

Anna Hazare sharply criticises Kejriwal government for its liquor policy

The India Saga Saga |

In his letter to Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, Mumbai social activist Anna Hazare sharply criticised Kejriwal’s government for its liquor policy. This was Anna’s first letter to Arvind Kejriwal ever since he joined office. Hazare mentioned that Kejriwal has forgotten what all he wrote in his book ‘Swaraj’ and is ‘drunk on power’. On Tuesday while speaking to the media, Hazare stated, “I haven’t sent Kejriwal a letter since he became chief minister, but because this is such a serious social issue, I decided to speak out. The Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22 is utterly wrong and will destroy families, particularly women. It is because of this policy, our youth, our country’s power, would be destroyed.”

Further accusing Kejriwal of not being willing to talk, Hazare also pointed out that in his book ‘Swaraj’ , Kejriwal suggested solutions to many problems which led to people putting their faith in him. However, it seems like he left his ideology behind after he became the chief minister of Delhi. In his book, ‘Swaraj,’ Kejriwal described how liquor licences are obtained by bribing authorities on the suggestions of politicians. The proliferation of alcohol stores, for which no vote is held, corrupts families. Kejriwal’s answer to the problem was to provide liquor store licences only with the permission of the relevant gramme panchayat and 90% of women attending the gramme sabha.

CM Arvind Kejriwal and deputy CM Manish Sisodia were a part of Hazare’s Jan Andolan to fight for the Lokpal in the country in the year 2012. Remembering and highlighting that Anna Hazare said, “On September 18, 2012, AAP proposed a political route during a Team Anna meet. You forgot that the movement’s goal was not to become a political party. There was a need to educate and raise awareness among the general people. If it had been done, the country would not have adopted a wrong alcohol policy.”

The Kejriwal-led cabinet approved the liquor policy in 2021. However, the government withdrew it after a complaint was filed by the CBI alleging corruption in the liquor policy.

Tara Chand along with 64 other leaders quit Congress in support of Ghulam Nabi Azad

The India Saga Saga |

On Tuesday along with Tara Chand, who is the former Jammu & Kashmir’s deputy chief minister, 64 other leaders quit the Congress citing a leadership crisis. This was also done by them to show their support for Ghulam Nabi Azad who is most likely going to make an announcement about the launch of a new political outfit as early as this weekend. In his letter of resignation from the Congress on Friday, Azad criticised the way the party was run and blamed Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi for destroying consultative processes. After a few hours, six former ministers and MPs from Jammu and Kashmir did the same.

Gharu Ram, Abdul Majid Wani, Balwan Singh and Manohar Lal Sharma, are a few of the leaders that resigned on Tuesday in Azad’s support. All of them submitted a joint resignation letter to Sonia Gandhi who is the Interim Congress President. They stated that they have been associated with Congress for decades. However, the treatment given to them was humiliating. Now that their mentor and leader Azad has left the party, they believe that they should come out as well and join him for J&K’s bright future.

Tara Chand gave a statement saying, “The leadership was failing miserably and this led us to part ways with them. We then requested Azad to lead us and assured him of our full support. He accepted our request and now together we all will work towards bringing improvements.” Chand further added, “Multiple senior BJP leaders are also not happy with certain decisions made by the ruling party. Hence, many of them have also expressed their willingness to join hands with Ghulam Nabi Azad.”

Azad expressed his joy in a Facebook post that people and political figures from all over J&K were reaching out to them with heartfelt greetings and a strong desire to start over. “I won’t disappoint them. All of us, including Christians, Buddhists, Sikhs, Muslims, and others, shall step into a new era of advancement and peace in J&K by working together. We have suffered enough. It is time to stand up straight and start walking together to reclaim what we have lost.”  On September 4, Azad will hold a public gathering in Jammu. Then, on September 12, he will hold a rally in Srinagar after spending four days in his hometown of Chenab Valley.
