Firecrackers seen bursting in few pockets of India after India got defeated by Pakistan, Sehwag and Gambhir reacts

The India Saga Saga |

Visuals of firecrackers being busted in a few pockets of India started to pour in as soon as the Indian Cricket Team was defeated by Pakistan in the T20 World Cup. Former Indian Cricketers Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag hit out at those people for their anti-India move.

Twitter and other social media platforms were flooded with videos of people celebrating India’s defeat against cricketing rival Pakistan in the T20 World Cup. People from a few pockets across the country were seen bursting crackers after the match. This drew a huge criticism from Netzines and several social media users even demanded strictest action against these people.

Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag took to Twitter to allege firecrackers were burst in ‘parts of India’ after the team’s loss against Pakistan on Sunday. Sehwag took a dig at fans celebrating Pakistan’s victory and also aimed a swipe at those urging people to not burst crackers during Diwali but are resorting to burning crackers over a cricket match. Sehwag, taking it to Twitter wrote, “Firecrackers are banned during Diwali but yesterday in parts of India there were firecrackers to celebrate Pakistan‘s victory. Achha they must have been celebrating victory of cricket. Toh, what’s the harm in fireworks on Diwali.”

Sehwag’s tweet rapidly created a buzz among the Twitterati and a huge section of people praised him for raising the issue without mincing his words. People supported him for criticising the hypocrisy over the burning of firecrackers during Diwali while others suggested there was no need for the former cricketer to share the tweet.

Soon after India faced a defeat at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, the streets of the National Capital along with several cities witnessed a shocking turn of events, with several people bursting crackers to celebrate Pakistan’s win and India’s defeat. Despite a blanket ban of crackers, people sitting in their homes could hear the sound of crackers. Celebrations also erupted in PoK, where some people could not hold their excitement as Pakistan managed to win a cricket match against India. Slogans were also chanted stating, “Pakistan Zindabad, Pakistan Meri Jaan”. Some videos also came to light where people were seen raising Pakistani flags.

Joining his former on-field partner, Gautam Gambhir, on Monday, also criticised those bursting firecrackers after Pakistan’s win against India in the T20 World Cup match on Sunday, October 24. His remarks come after ex-cricketer Virender Sehwag alleged that crackers were burst in parts of India following Pakistan’s victory. In a tweet, using the ‘Shameful’ hashtag, Gambhir said, “Those bursting crackers on Pak winning can’t be Indian! We stand by our boys!”

As per ‘unconfirmed reports’, government has invoked it’s recent order which reads, ‘extra territorial loyalty at the cost of the Indian Union would be factored in while deciding right to opportunity in India or government funded public employment’. Identification of trouble mongers has already begun and they ‘might’ face a cancelation of their admission. The girl who was seen shouting anti-India slogans standing on a table in a video that went viral has been identified as Arifa Asfand, a MBBS student of 2017 batch. She is likely to face disqualification as per the government sources.

As of now, most of the videos trending on the social media wherein people in Kashmir were seen celebrating Pakistan’s victory are from 2017. Only two videos- SKIMS hostel and GMC girls hostel celebratory videos have been found real and verified and Police is on job to nab the offenders.

Bollywood producer Suravi Patnaik on the changing dynamics of OTT

The India Saga Saga |

With the entertainment industry regaining a semblance of normality, one may assume that web content may now be experiencing a backseat. However, it’s quite the opposite. The OTT boom has not only become an opportunity for actors but has also opened the door to a raft of new age directors and filmmakers; it’s here to stay.

The web space is emerging fast as an important medium in the entertainment landscape, and audiences are spoilt for choice as they consume content in various languages. As for budding filmmakers, OTT opens up different ways for storytelling, big or small. With more liberty on format and censoring, there is a lot to experiment, says filmmaker Suravi Patnaik.

Patnaik, who made her first stroke in movies with Tom Cruise starrer Mission Impossible: Fallout in 2018, believes the digital medium has helped ease the commercial restrictions of creative projects. According to Patnaik, accessibility and personalisation are key differentiators of OTT platforms. Consumers stay engaged as they can discover content that is relevant to them, right at their fingertips. However, as a filmmaker, Patnaik feels that it’s movie making that is changing faster than movie watching experiences. Gone are the days of commercial, happy-ending potboilers starring Khans. Cinema in 2021 is about content that is meaningful but may not necessarily have a happy ending or fit into a feature film format. Patnaik is happy to see newage cinema giving centrestage to actors instead of stars, cutting through language and mainstream barriers with its own kind of filmmaking such as web series and anthologies but feels that although the OTT space will continue to grow, streamers won’t replace theatres just yet.

Patnaik is the founder and ceo of Sponsa – a global company providing services in tech, marketing and more recently in film production. Suravi made her first bucks selling handmade Indian jeweller at the tender age of 16, when she was in high school in the UK. She graduated with a Masters degree in IT from University of Otago, New Zealand. However, her passion lied In 2017, she got a chance to work in Tom Cruise starrer Mission Impossible: Fallout. She became producer in 2020 – she is producing first of its kind Odia anthology content to be released worldwide in OTT platforms in early 2022.

Chandrachur Singh’s ‘Maachis’ movie is completing 25 years on October 25

The India Saga Saga |

The movie ‘Maachis’ is completing 25 years on October 25. The 1996 film was directed by Gulzar and is also known for its cast Tabu and Jimmy Sheirgill. Actor Chandrachur Singh on-screen character ‘Tej Sareen’ hums a song to his onscreen wife Sushmita sen in Emmy nominated web show Aarya. The trait is incorporated as the actor is a singer in his real-life too. The actor who is known for his acting skills ace the audition over WhatsApp.

Chandrachur Singh was a name to reckon with in the late 1990s with films like Betaabi, Dil Kya Kare, Josh, Daag: The Fire, Silsila Hai Pyar Ka, and many more.  The actor has to struggle for continuous five years to grab the love that he has attained now. When he had two simultaneous releases in 1996, Maachis and Tere Mere Sapne, his career graph started to rise higher and made him a popular name in every household.

Directed by Gulzar, and also starring Tabu, Jimmy Sheirgill, Om Puri, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Raj Zutshi, and others. Maachis revolves around the political drama that showcases the Sikh insurgency in Punjab in the 1980s, and how politicians manipulate youth to get their ulterior motives fulfilled.

“I was in St Stephen’s, all set to appear for my UPSC exams, wanting to become an IAS or IFS officer. Offers came to me, and as much as I wanted to be successful, I think I also had the hunger to be known as an actor worth his salt,” Chandrachur exclaimed.

Chandrachur came to Mumbai around 1988 and his first film went on floors in 1990. “We shot around 60-80 percent of the film, and then it was shelved. And then there were many near-misses over the next five-six years before I landed Maachis and Tere Mere Sapne,” Chandrachur added.

According to Chandrachur, it was also the time when he doubted his career choice as he enjoyed teaching more. “I taught music in Vasant Valley, Delhi, and then went on to teach History at The Doon School in Dehradun, which happens to be my former school. So I thought in case (acting) didn’t work out, I got myself a permanent job as a teacher in Doon school.”

But Jaya Bachchan called him out for a screen test and then there was no looking back. The actor got approved for Tere Mere Sapne. Gulzar who was the director of the film came across Chandrachur’s audition tape and decided to cast him as Kirpal Singh Pali in Maachis.

“I had gone to his office with a stubble. I had no idea that he was looking for someone with stubble. He asked me if I had work to show, and I told him that I’d done a screen test for Mrs. Bachchan. He called her up because they were really close, having worked in films like Parichay and more. He asked for my screen test, saw it, and approved. By the time I reached home, I was told that I had been cast in Maachis. It was a very pleasant surprise, that it all happened so smoothly. Apparently, he waited really long to cast the character of Kirpal,” Chandrachur told us.

But Chandrachur said that things started to change post-1997 when his films failed to excel at the box office. “There were many films whose promos and songs had come out, but the films were never released in the theaters. There was this movie I did with Shilpa Shetty called Junoon, and there was another one with Sonali Kulkarni. There was one with Sanjay Dutt and Shamita Shetty called Mohabbat Ho Gayi Hai Tumse, and there were other big projects that I don’t want to revisit. It’s just a case of many slips between the cup and the lip.”

Now but with his short and impactful performance in the web series named Aarya, Chandrachur has yet again spotted the limelight for his excellent acting skills. Thus, people are waiting to see him more in the coming shows.
