Why Does a Refrigerator make Noise?

The India Saga Saga |

Buying a best refrigerator in India is a great thing but maintaining it can be a problem. One of the major problems associated with refrigerators is noise. Refrigerator noises can be caused by several things and for starters, this can be very frustrating.  Some of the noises that may come from your fridge may not be serious, but others might indicate that there is a serious problem that needs to be addressed. In this article, we are going to discuss how you can troubleshoot noise problems when they occur.

Types of Refrigerator Noise

Cracking or Clatter Noises – This simply means that some parts of the freezer are contracting or expanding. It normally happens due to temperature changes. When this happens, the metallic parts of your fridge and the ice that is already formed starts to expand which may cause some noise. Overall, there is nothing to worry about these sounds because it is an indication that the fridge in working properly.

Clicking sounds – If you hear some clicking sounds in your refrigerator, it means that there is a problem that needs to be addressed. In most cases, these sounds are caused by a dirty condenser which causes the compressor to get overloaded. You should clean the condenser at least once per year.

Rattling noise/ Banging sounds – If there are any items you have placed on top of the refrigerator; you need to remove them first to determine whether they are responsible for the sounds.  It can also happen when the compressor is dirty or when it needs to be replaced. The best thing to do is to consult a technician to check it for you.

The sound may also result due to clogging of the condenser fan located at the bottom of the fridge. You should use a soft brush when cleaning it and remember to unplug the fridge when cleaning.

The actual fridge condenser is also susceptible to dirt and lint which means that you should also clean it. You may also need to check whether the condensing pan is out of its place. Also, check the tubing in the fridge to ensure that it is properly positioned.

Buzzing noise – A buzzing sound should only worry you when it occurs for a long time. In most cases, it happens when the inlet valve opens and closes to fill the icemaker or dispense water. In case the sound is coming from the outer part of your fridge, you may need to check whether there is a loose panel in the fridge.

Popping Noise – These sounds happen when the walls of the fridge expand and contract due to temperature changes. This is normal but it is good to check whether the fridge is cooling properly. This means that you will need to check the walls of the fridge for condensation. In case there is none, it means that your fridge is working properly.

Hissing and dribbling noises – This problem is normally caused by flowing oil or refrigerant in the compressor which means that it is not a serious problem. If the sound is very loud, it may be a sign that the oil in the compressor is going bad. It might also occur if there is a problem on the freezer walls maybe some punctures and the Freon is leaking. This is very dangerous, and you should call a technician immediately to fix it because Freon is very toxic.

Sizzling or Gurgling noises – These sounds usually happen when the ice is melting or when the melted ice starts to drip into the draining part.  You should not be worried about this because it is part of the normal processes that occurs in a refrigerator.

Vibration noise – This happens when the refrigerator is not levelled on the floor correctly. You can solve it by adjusting the legs of your fridge to ensure that it stands on the floor properly with all the 4 legs.  You can also solve this by placing your fridge on a rubber mat or anti-vibration pads to lessen these vibrations.

Whirling or pulsating sounds – This sound comes from the fans and the compressor of your refrigerator. It simply shows that your fridge is functioning properly.

Noise coming from the inside of the fridge: If the noise is coming from the inside of your refrigerator, you may need to check the fan that circulates air. You can confirm this by pressing the light switch located in the freezer. In case the circulation fan is the major cause, the noise will be louder.

How to prevent your fridge from making sounds

Proper maintenance of the refrigerator is the best way to ensure that your fridge does not produce unwanted sounds. For example, you need to clean your fridge frequently to ensure that all parts are functioning as required. You should also check the compressor, condenser fans, tubing and the condenser itself to ensure that they are all clean and working.

Again, you should avoid overstuffing your fridge because this might affect its performance and may also cause some damages. Once you detect some unusual sounds coming from the refrigerator, you should check it immediately. It is also important to refer to the user manual when it comes to maintenance. Make sure that you have read and understood all the instructions on the manual on the things you should do to keep it working.

You also need to schedule frequent maintenance to enhance its performance. This will also boost its durability. In case something is not clear, you should always consult a technician. Also check out the warranty terms to find out if the company can assist you in case there is a problem.

Conclusion

Those are the major sounds that are likely to come from your fridge at home. Even though most of them are not serious, it is important to look for a technician to check some of the technical components such as the compressor, condenser fan and the defroster timer. However, if the issue you are dealing with can be solved by cleaning the condenser the compressor, there is no need to hire a technician because this is something you can easily do.

Chances of Covid-19 triggering Guillain-Barré syndrome that causes paralysis

The India Saga Saga |

While the virus that causes Covid-19 is spreading rapidly in the world. Scientists are worried about the risk of Guillain-Barré syndrome that can occur if you have been attacked by the Covid virus. Guillain-Barré syndrome is an autoimmune disorder that is a rare condition but can turn out to be severe. The condition is triggered by an acute bacterial or viral infection.

“Our study shows that COVID-19 can precede Guillain-Barre syndrome in rare cases,” said Bart C Jacobs of the Rotterdam University Medical Center in the Netherlands.

“But the existence of a true association or causal relationship has yet to be established,” said Jacobs, one of the authors of the article.

Since the Covid virus is affecting a large number of people, scientists are racing to find the cause to help save lives and curb the virus’s spread. Guillain-Barré syndrome attacks the nerves and if the condition worsens it can even paralyze the whole body. The syndrome can last for weeks or even several years making the patient go through a tough time.

A study suggested that about 49 patients cases were active and they were from countries including China, Denmark, France, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. This study, published in the journal Brain shows that 22% of Guillain-Barré syndrome patients had already been affected by Covid-19 researchers said.

The patients were of the age of 50 and they frequently suffered from facial paralysis or had some form of demyelination of GBS, researchers told. Covid-19 infected patients have been more prone to Guillain-Barré syndrome, the report guided. On the other hand, researchers put forwarded they found no more patients were diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome in the first four months of the pandemic compared to previous years. Although a strong connection between COVID-19 infection and Guillain-Barre syndrome is very unlikely, still there are chances that Covid may be linked to Guillain-Barre syndrome that causing paralysis.

3 People arrested in Kochi for selling whales worth INR 1cr

The India Saga Saga |

Three people have been arrested from the Lakshadweep islands in Kochi for selling rare whale ambergris worth more than Rs 1 crore. Based on a secret tip-off received by the Lakshadweep forest officers, the accused were arrested on Wednesday with 1.4 kg whale ambergris (1 kg black ambergris and 400 gm white ambergris)  with a market value of more than Rs 1.4 crore while they were trying to sell the ambergris at a private lodge in Vyttila in Kochi.

To stop the illegal sale, a team of forest officials from the island was deputed to Kochi along with the officials of the Kerala Forest Department and Wildlife Crime Control Bureau ( WCCB ), who also took part in the mission.

In a release, the Department of Environment and Forest, Lakshadweep, on Thursday said that the arrested people were natives of Andreotti and Amini island. Further investigation is underway and efforts are made to nab other accused involved in the crime. Ambergris is also commonly known as whale vomit and its sale is prohibited under the Wildlife (Conservation) Act, 1972.

It’s a waxy flammable substance that is produced inside the digestive system of sperm whales. After being accumulated for years inside the sperm whale’s stomach, the substance is then either vomited or excreted and floats in the ocean for years, undergoing various chemical changes to transform into Ambergris — a highly valued substance in the perfume industry, where it is used as a fixative as well as medicine industry. Due to its immense role in these industries, it’s often bought illegally at high prices. Thus its demand leading to the alleged extraction of the vomit by killing the giant sperm whales.

In the year 2021 alone, more than 4 cases have been reported of ambergris smuggling from states such as Mumbai where 1.3 kg ambergris worth 1.7 cr was captured. Similarly in the month of July, a gang of eight was arrested with 8 kg ambergris worth 12 cr in the Guntur district of Chenna. In the same month, the forest officials also arrested three accused from the Thrissur district of Kerala, who were trying to sell ambergris worth 30 cr.

U.S President speaks to Macron, may lead to cordial relations with France

The India Saga Saga |

Philippe Etienne who is France’s Ambassador to the U.S will be returning to Washington DC next week. The announcement was done after U.S President Joe Biden spoke to his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, on Wednesday.

This was their first phone call since the aftermath of the announcement on September 15 of a trilateral security agreement between Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States, which prompted France to withdraw its envoys to the United States and Australia. According to a joint statement, the call was initiated at U.S President Biden’s request.

It’s unusual for comments to say who initiated the contact, implying that the Biden administration is doing a lot of damage control with America’s oldest ally. Mr. Macron was enraged by the AUKUS pact, which was negotiated behind closed doors and came as a surprise to other countries.

The French said that the founding of AUKUS had thrown a wrench in their Indo-Pacific plans and came at a high cost. In 2016, France and Australia agreed to a $66 billion deal in which Australia will receive diesel-electric submarines. As a result of AUKUS, Australia is now out of that deal. AUKUS’ main deliverable, for the time being, is to provide Australia with a fleet of superior submarines that run on nuclear power.

“The two leaders agreed that the situation would have benefitted from open consultations among allies on matters of strategic interest to France and our European partners. President Biden conveyed his ongoing commitment in that regard,” the statement said.

Mr. Etienne will begin “intensive work” with U.S. officials when he gets back next week, the White House said, to build confidence between the two countries, whose leaders will next meet in Glasgow at the UN Conference on climate.

“President Biden reaffirms the strategic importance of French and European engagement in the Indo-Pacific region, including in the framework of the European Union’s recently published strategy for the Indo-Pacific,” the joint statement said, presumably responding to a statement from French officials calling for greater strategic autonomy for Europe following the AUKUS announcement.

Wednesday’s statement also said that Mr. Biden recognized the importance of a more capable and strong European defense contributing to transatlantic and global security and complementing NATO.
