PM Modi lays the foundation stone of Mahendra Pratap Singh University in Aligarh

The India Saga Saga |

On the auspicious occasion of Radha Ashtami, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday laid the foundation stone of Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh State University in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. The university is being launched by the Uttar Pradesh government and is named after Jat King,  Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh, an Indian freedom fighter, journalist, writer and social reformer.

At the inauguration ceremony, Modi said,   Â“We have had several freedom fighters who at different stages of life proved their worth and gave sacrifices for the nation. But unfortunately, the youth of the nation were not introduced to such icons even after gaining independence.”

Stressing on the defence corridor, PM Modi said, “The world is seeing that from grenades to rifles to fighter jets to drones, everything is being mass-produced in India. Even after decades of gaining independence, India was seen as a defence importer, however, breaking the chains we are now seen as defence exporters.” The Defense Industrial Corridor of Uttar Pradesh will help in making the country self-sustaining in the field of defence production and promoting ‘Make in India’, he added.

Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh State University is being established in an area of over 92 acres at Lodha village and Musepur village of Aligarh’s Koil tehsil. The university has been affiliated with 395 colleges of the Aligarh division as informed by the official press release. The government’s decision to set up the university after the mentioned Jat figure is being seen as a strategy of BJP’s bid to win over the dissatisfied communities forth of the pivotal assembly polls in the state early next year.

Admiring the U.P. government, PM Modi said, “The central and UP governments are working together to develop the state. We have to confront together all the forces that are against development here”. He further appreciated the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, under whose leadership, UP was benefitting from a “double-engine sarkar,” referring to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) governments at the Centre and in the state.

National Health Service launched the first of its kind Cancer trial

The India Saga Saga |

Cancer is a dominant uncontrollable disease that leads to painful death. With the rising number of cancer patients, it has become high time to think for the betterment of cancer sufferers. In the past year, this dreadful disease accounts for about 1 crore deaths according to the World Health Organization. Many of the losing battles against cancer are because of the high cost of diagnosis and costly treatments. Aiming to achieve a proper cure for this deadly illness, the National Health Service, Britain state-run organization, has launched a trial that can help in reducing the cost of diagnosis and treatment in several countries including India, further promoting good health and increasing the number of cancer survivors.

The NHS has initiated a step towards bringing relief to cancer sufferers. The world’s biggest trial of Grail Inc flagship Galleri blood test will help in detecting 50 cancer types even before the symptoms appear in the person. Further, if the trial comes out to be successful it will do wonders for cancer patients who deal with enormous pain every single day. The trial is the first of its kind and directs 140,000 people in eight different areas to check the credibility of the test.

“Carried out as a quick and simple blood test,” says NHS chief executive Amanda Pritchard, “This could mark the beginning of a revolution in cancer detection and treatment here and around the world.”

“By finding cancer before signs and symptoms even appear, we have the best chance of treating it and we can give people the best possible chance of survival,” Pritchard suggested.

“What it means to India and even to the rest of the world is that the investigations being performed will have a precursor to them, so their cost will come down considerably for investigations themselves,” said Dr. Mamta Rao, Consultant Radiologist in the UK.

Harriet Buckingham, who was first told about her breast cancer in 2013, said the trial would have made a world of difference for her had her cancer been detected early. “By the time I found my lump, cancer had traveled to my lymph nodes. Had my cancer been detected earlier my treatment would have been less scary perhaps,” said Harriet, who has now fully recovered.

The National Cancer Registry Program in India said that out of every 68 men 1 man will likely succumb to lung cancer, 1 in 29 females will have to go through breast cancer and 1 in 9 Indians will have to live with cancer in their life span. The cancer trial is expected to have a good effect on certain cancer patients which involves the head, neck, lungs, bowel, pancreatic, and throat areas.

Dr. Preetha Arvind says, “this test endeavors to pick up earlier cancers that would not be detected routinely.” Further told, “Screening programs pick up only certain types of tumors but this one could possibly detect cancers that don’t have screening programs.”

Most men are inclined towards the oral cavity, lung, stomach, colorectal and oesophagus cancer. Whereas women suffer from breast, oral cavity, cervices, lung, and gastric cancers. “Oral cavity, stomach, and gastric are some of the cancers that don’t yet have any screening programs. Therefore, a blood test like this could be a gamechanger,” Dr. Preeta Arvind said.

The study shows that it is expected to see results by 2023 and if the test becomes successful then the NHS will roll out more increased trials for around 1 million people till 2024 & 2025. And if everything works out as per the plan then the test will be available by 2026, said Dr. Mamta Rao

Britain bans Chinese ambassador from British Parliament

The India Saga Saga |

The new Chinese ambassador to Britain has been barred from parliament by the Speakers in the Commons and Lords. The imposition of sanctions on British MPs by Beijing.

The new ambassador, Zheng Zeguang, was due to attend a meeting of the broadly pro-Chinese all-party group on China, but after a letter from MPs who were subjected to sanctions by China, including the former Conservative party leader Iain Duncan Smith, the Commons Speaker, Lindsay Hoyle, has said the meeting is not appropriate.

A similar decision has been endorsed by the Lord’s Speaker, John McFall.

Hoyle met a group of the MPs targeted by China last week and afterward in a letter they urged him to consider “the implications of the visit for all parliamentarians who need to be able to speak out as part of their duties in the democratic system we all cherish”.

They urged him to ban the ambassador from the parliamentary estate until the sanctions are lifted.

It is understood that the Speaker sought the advice of the foreign secretary, Dominic Raab, but the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office said the decision was a matter for the Speaker, and not the government.

Hoyle said he was not banning the Chinese ambassador permanently, but only while the sanctions existed. China says it imposed sanctions on MPs and academics in March after the UK government imposed sanctions on Chinese officials that it had identified as responsible for the suppression of the rights of the Uyghur people in Xinjiang. In their letter, the MPs argued: “The Chinese government has so far made no attempt to reverse the sanctions, which are a tool to criminalize individuals and limit their freedom internationally. Indeed the Chinese government has taken steps to give legal force to the sanctions rendering us potentially vulnerable to prosecution by the Chinese authorities.”
