Following his departure from FC Barcelona, Lionel Messi has signed a two-year contract with French powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain. Messi, the 34-year-old Argentine star who just bid an emotional farewell to Nou Camp, where he spent 21 years of his life, has the option of extending his contract for a third year. Messi’s financial conditions have not been revealed in full, although it is expected that he will return to Barcelona.

On Tuesday, in a statement, Lionel Messi said, “I am excited to begin a new chapter of my career at Paris Saint-Germain. Everything about the club matches my football ambitions.” “I know how talented the squad and the coaching staff are here. I am determined to help build something special for the club and the fans, and I am looking forward to stepping out onto the pitch at the Parc des Princes,” he further added.

PSG president Nasser al-Khelaifi was ecstatic to welcome Messi to the club: “I am ecstatic that Lionel Messi has decided to join Paris St-Germain, and we are happy to welcome him and his family to Paris.”

Messi joins PSG as the club’s fourth free agent this summer, following Gianluigi Donnarumma of Italy, Georginio Wijnaldum of the Netherlands, and Sergio Ramos of Spain. Messi will be joined by Neymar of Brazil and Kylian Mbappe of France to form a fearsome forward threat for the club.

Last year, Messi announced his intention to leave Barcelona, but said in an emotional press conference that things had changed in the last year and that he was eager to stay with the club. However, due to the Catalan club’s financial difficulties, Barcelona had no choice but to let Messi go, despite the 34-year-old agreeing to a 50% reduction in his fee.

The Assam CM who was on a two-day visit to the National Capital said that peace has returned to Assam, Mizoram and the situation is in control.”

Talking to media persons in New Delhi, Himanta said “We are taking up confidence-building measures and there is a need for a span of peace. Both sides are constantly in touch with each other and it will take a bit of time to heal.”
The CM during his two days visit to New Delhi met with PM Narendra Modi and the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah. The meeting comes amidst the backdrop of the border clashes between Assam and Mizoram on 26th of July this year. 

Addressing a presser, CM said that he was in constant touch with the Prime Minister after the violence broke out at the borders of Assam and Mizoram taking the lives of 5 personnel from Assam Police. He said the PM was deeply pained with what had happened and PM Modi told him ‘Aisa hone se desh ko pida hoti hain (The country is pained by such incidents).”

Speaking about the violence, Sarma further added “Relations should not be spoiled for just 1 or 2 inches of land. After all, this is Indian land.” He assured people that both the state governments are talking to each other and working for peace and tranquility. Both the state governments have earlier released a joint statement and we are constantly working to resolve the issue, he further said. 

Sarma also took no chance of sparing the opposition. Hitting out at the grand old party, Congress, he said “Everyone is still suffering for the mistakes committed at the time of carving out the northeastern states.” The Assam Chief Minister also said that when Congress had carved out states, they were either ‘casual’ about it or had ‘planned a conspiracy.

Justifying his statement, he further said that when states like Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Telangana and Chhattisgarh were formed, boundaries were discretely mentioned hence there is no border dispute with their parent state.

But when Northeastern states like Mizoram, Meghalaya and other states were newly formed, they should have been included by writing it down in the Act which did not happen and this is the primary reason for violence occuring every few years.

Delhi CM, Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday planned to launch ‘faceless’ transport services for Delhites. The AAP government, fulfilling the long pending public demand, will now bring online all the transport-related services like driving licenses, registration, and permit-related services of its Transport department.

According to an official order of the state’s transport department issued on Tuesday, four motor licensing offices in the state will be shut down.  Zonal offices located at Janakpuri, Vasant Vihar, Sarai Kale Khan, and IP Estate will close down, however, these offices will serve as facilitation centers for the public who don’t have any access to computers to file online applications.

The service will be officially launched by the Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal on 11th August. Applicants will no longer need to visit the transport authority offices as all services will be now faceless except for issuing the driving license and vehicle fitness certificate. 

With this step, Delhi becomes the first state in the country to bring all transport-related services online helping people in saving a lot of their time and money. The CM will launch 33 faceless services from the IP State MLO, requiring an online application.

An official of the transport department said that the trials of online learning tests have already begun at South Delhi offices at Vasant Vihar and Sarai Kale Khan. During the trial, 50 people have been given learning licenses so far, the official further added. 

The step will empower people by providing them online services related to driving license and registration certificates such as a change in address, duplicate copies, transfer of ownership, and international driving permits.

Understanding the problems faced by the Delhiites, the transport department has ordered the posting of three zonal deputy commissioners at Surajmal Vihar, South Zone, and Dwarka covering all zonal offices. For the general public whose application remains pending for any reason, these Zonal Deputy Commissioners will act as a focal point for resolving the issue.  

The transport department has made all necessary arrangements for redressing the grievances through introducing official helpline number 1076. Several other steps like official WhatsApp Chatbot and online complaint log at the portal have also been rolled out  so that applicants won’t face any issue. With this new initiative, the applicants are assured that their applications will be positively processed within a span of a week.

Further, the MLOs have been strictly directed to look into the complaints on priority basis and each complaint should be resolved within a period of three days.

With this initiative, the government aims to address the long pending demand of the people of the state. This step will further abolish corruption by kicking out middlemen and provide applicants with easy, hassle free transport services at their doorstep.

The BJP led Government in Karnataka, on Saturday issued an order to implement New Education Policy in the State.

After taking charge as the new higher education of the state, Dr CN Ashwath Narayana announced this decision. A meeting was chaired by Narayana with the officials of the department and state higher education council after which the decision was taken. 

In a statement given to media persons, Ashwath said “By doing this, Karnataka has become the first state in the nation to issue the order with regard to implementation of NEP-2020.” The implementation of the policy will be done as per the guidelines issued by the Centre on the New Education Policy 2020, he further added.

The policy aims to increase the Gross Enrolment Ratio in higher education which includes vocational education from 26.3% in 2018 to 50% by 2035. It also aims to add 3.5 crore new seats to Institutions of higher education. 

As per the policy, the students joining BA OR BSc degree courses shall opt for two subjects (as discipline core) available at their respective colleges.

The policy seeks to overhaul the entire system through various new reforms. This will ensure a single regulator to oversee the higher education system while the students will be allowed to choose between three and four-year undergraduate courses.

Under this policy, there will not be MPhil courses before PhD.

Further, if a student discontinues, for any reason, after completing the second year of graduation (National Skills Qualification Framework Level 6) by obtaining the necessary credits, he/she shall be given the Diploma Degree. On the other hand, if for any reason, a student discontinues, after completing the 3rd year of graduation (National Skills Qualification Framework Level 7) by obtaining the necessary credits, he/she will be awarded with the Bachelor’s Degree.

As per the guidelines, Students can discontinue only after completion of even semesters and they can join only for odd semesters. Colleges will have the choice to integrate courses for 5 years in addition to degrees of 3 years and honors degrees of 4 years. 

The Government has directed the colleges to prepare a separate Kannada curriculum for those who have not studied Kannada either in PUC or equivalent level or for those whose mother tongue is not Kannada.
