The 11th round of India-China military talks to be held this month is expected to record forward movement in the disengagement of armies in the Gogra-Hot Springs area of East Ladakh. The decisions were made during the conversations on progress made by the two sides during the recent meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination (WMCC) on border affairs. 

After nine months of continuous standoff, the two military troops reached an agreement on disengagement of troops in the north and south banks of Pangong lake that mandated both sides withdraw troops in a “phased, coordinated and verifiable” manner. The movement began on February 10. The disengagement process in Pangong lake areas concluded in line with an arrangement between the two sides. 

After the meeting, a joint India-China statement said that the two sides had a “candid and in-depth exchange of views” on the issues on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and “agreed to follow the important consensus of their state leaders”. The statement also underlined the commitment to continue the discussion and “push for a mutually acceptable resolution of the remaining issues in a steady and orderly manner”.
