Mega Auction for IPL 2025; the future of Rohit Sharma

Shubham Tyagi |

IPL chairman Arun Dhumal recently ended the rumours of an IPL mega auction for the upcoming edition 2025. He said that IPL 2025 will have a mega auction and that we will share the rules and regulations shortly. Until now, there has not been any confirmation of how many players a franchise can retain and what is the luxury of the Right to Match (RTM). In the last mega auction, a franchise could retain up to a maximum of 4 players and had one RTM available in the auction.

This confirmation raised fans’ eyebrows about whether their favourite star would play for the same franchise in the next session. An all-franchise meeting will take place on 16 April, where they can discuss the retention policy and inform the Board of Cricket Control of India (BCCI) about the same.

Now, the future of so many legends is covered with a shadow. Will they continue their IPL run with the same franchise, or will they have a new jersey waiting for them? Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravi Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, Andre Russel, Sunil Narine, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are the IPL GOATs who spend most of their time with the same franchise.

However, as the boom of youngsters comes every year, and sometimes they can even outshine these legends, looking into the game’s future, it takes a lot of work for these legends to stay home with the same team. One of the most discussed players amid all this conversation is the five-time winning captain and the OG of the IPL, Rohit Sharma.

Future of Rohit Sharma

Every member of the cricket fraternity knows what happened with Rohit Sharma in the trading window in 2024. This elevates the rumours that Rohit Sharma will not be part of Mumbai Indians (MI) in the next edition of the Indian Premier League. Ahead of IPL 2024, there were speculations that some franchises were in touch with Rohit Sharma, but the veteran decided to stay.

Recently, Rohit’s colleague and former IPL legend Ambati Raydu took a dig at MI and suggested the Hitman switch his future to Chennai Super Kings and end his career in the Yellow Sea. Delhi Capitals was also in touch with Rohit Sharma for the trade with David Warner but this did not happen.

Amidst all this, the Lucknow Super Giants is another team that appears thrilled about the idea of signing Rohit, should the chance present itself. In an interview, when Rohit’s name was mentioned, LSG coach Justin Langer seemed excited. He was asked to name one player he would like to see join the team. “I want one guy, please? Who do you think I should have if I could have anyone?” Langer posed this question to the interviewee.” The interviewer added, “We’ve covered most of our bases. However, do you think you can convince Rohit Sharma?” Langer asked, his face lit up with a radiant smile.

“Rohit Sharma? Hehe. We’re heading to Mumbai to pick him up. The coach said, “Well, you better be the negotiator.” Cricket is a game of fairy tales; we never know what will happen in the future; as fans, we can only predict the outcomes. But as of now, Rohit Sharma sealed his honesty and hid it in some corner of his home, Wankhede Stadium, the fortress of Mumbai Indians.

Heat Wave Havoc: Understanding the Growing Health Crisis in India

Roshni Yadav |

A “heat wave” occurs when summertime temperatures in North-Western India are abnormally high—above the average maximum temperature. Heat waves usually happen from March through June; in certain extreme circumstances, they may even last into July. People who live in these areas suffer greatly from the extreme temperatures and the resulting atmospheric conditions, which can sometimes be fatal due to physiological stress.

  • Heat waves are not considered when a station’s maximum temperature reaches 40 degrees Fahrenheit for Plains regions and 30 degrees Fahrenheit for Hilly areas.
  • Heat Wave Departure from normal is 5oC to 6oC when a station’s normal maximum temperature is less than or equal to 40 C.
  • A heat wave departs from normal by 4 to 5 degrees Celsius, and a severe heat wave departs from normal by 6 degrees Celsius or more when a station’s normal maximum temperature is above 40 degrees Celsius.
  • It is appropriate to declare heat waves regardless of the average maximum temperature, provided that the temperature stays at 45 degrees or above.”
  •  Globally, longer, more intense heat waves and daily peak temperatures are becoming more common due to climate change.
  •  India is experiencing increased health risks due to more frequent and intense heat waves, leading to increased deaths.

Due to climate change, longer, more intense heat waves and higher daily peak temperatures are becoming more common globally. India is experiencing increased health risks due to more frequent and intense heat waves, leading to increased deaths.

  • Heat waves can cause dehydration, cramping, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke, among other health effects. The following are the indications and symptoms:
  • Heat cramps: Fever below 39 C, or 102 F, is typically present along with oedema (swelling) and syncope (fainting).
  • Fatigue, weakness, headache, nausea, vomiting, muscle cramping, and sweating are all signs of heat exhaustion.
  • Heat Stoke: Delirium, convulsions, or coma, as well as body temperatures of 40 C, or 104 F, or higher. This illness has the potential to be fatal.

Heat Wave and Health

The timing, severity, and length of a temperature event, the degree of acclimatisation, and the degree to which the local population, institutions, and infrastructure can adjust to the current climate all influence the extent and type of health effects associated with heat. With certain public health initiatives, the detrimental effects of heat on health are predictable and mainly avoidable. All humans are susceptible to a wide range of physiological effects from prolonged exposure to heat, many of which worsen pre-existing conditions and cause premature death and disability.

Some key health impacts of heat are:

  • Exposure to hotter temperatures can lead to sudden heat gain, which compromises the body’s temperature regulation and results in ailments like heat exhaustion, heatstroke, cramps, and hyperthermia.
  • Heat-related deaths and hospital admissions can happen very quickly (on the same day) or slowly (over several days), which can hasten death or illness in the already fragile. This is especially noticeable in the early stages of heat waves.
  • Extreme temperature variations can exacerbate long-term health issues, such as diabetes-related disorders and diseases of the heart, lungs, and brain.
  • Important indirect health effects of heat are also present. Heat can affect how people behave, how diseases spread, how well health services are provided, and how clean the air is.

If Congress came to power, we could redistribute the wealth; Rahul Gandhi

Shubham Tyagi |

On Saturday, in an election meeting, Rahul Gandhi said that if Congress came to power, they could redistribute the wealth of India.

Rahul Gandhi is the former president of the grand old party and one of the most important opposition leaders. However, he sometimes forgets his aura and intellect and puts himself in the centre of attraction when he speaks. He has always been a part of political discussion for his rhetoric, and once again, it happened. On Saturday, in an election meeting, he said that if Congress came to power, they could redistribute the wealth of India.

If the Congress is elected, the party would survey to determine who is the country’s wealthiest person and a redistribution exercise. “To determine the precise number and status of minorities, backward castes, SCs, STs, and others, we will first carry out a caste census. The institutional and financial survey will then start. Then, based on their population, we will undertake the historic task of allocating the wealth of India, jobs, and other welfare schemes to these segments,” he added.

Concept of Wealth Redistribution

This concept of wealth redistribution is taken from Karl Marx’s 1848 “s book Communist Manifesto. The transfer of income and wealth (including material property) from some people to others via a social mechanism, such as taxation, welfare, public services, land reform, monetary policies, confiscation, divorce, or tort law, is known as redistribution of income and wealth and usually used about redistribution within the economy as a whole, as opposed to between specific individuals.

Is wealth redistribution possible?

Numerous nations have previously chosen to implement wealth redistribution programs in various ways. While the United States of America uses taxes and transfers with the same level of progressivity, nations like Finland and Sweden have relied on progressive transfer systems. India also has a progressive tax system in which the wealthiest pay at least 30% in taxes, with a significant portion of that amount going toward welfare programs for the underprivileged. Cash transfer programs are also included in these redistribution initiatives.

Progressive Tax

A progressive tax is one in which the tax rate rises (or progresses) in proportion to the increase in taxable income. It applies a higher tax rate to individuals with higher incomes and a lower tax rate to those with lower incomes. Usually, tax brackets that divide taxpayers into income-based groups are used to accomplish this.
