The most recent collection of poems ‘An Afternoon in My Mind’  by Sonnet Mondal taps on a variety of life’s strings with an unbridled tenderness. The poems in this collection have a strong metaphorical flavor, a subtle presentation, and pure lyricism. Each poem in the collection seems to echo his perceptions and flows down through his breath into the paper. The volume published by Copper Coin publishing contains seventy-five poems with a beautiful cover illustration by G. Gopikrishnan. The book is accompanied by a nostalgic soundtrack that does not disturb but rather harmonizes with the lingering pictures of the past. The poems depict a rural road taken by the poet and demonstrate how time repeats itself in a cyclical fashion in a man’s life. The poet takes a meditative approach to a restless world, accentuating everyday objects such as a trident in ‘The Trident and the Tea Seller,’ the aroma of biscuits in ‘The Biscuit Factory,’ and a fishing rod in ‘An Afternoon In My Mind.’ There are no foreign motifs in his poetry. They deal with thought-provoking issues about our observable world but through the eyes of a mystic. 

 

Talking about the inspiration behind writing, Sonnet Mondal said, “Writing allows me to express my inner self and brings calm to my soul. ‘An Afternoon in My Mind’ is a compilation of my musings and memories. Many of my poems are inspired by situations or people I have encountered in my daily life. I believe that the world around us is extraordinarily fascinating; the species, people, and environment are all unique in their own way. We can perceive a lot from our circumstances and environment if we just pay attention to them, which is precisely what I do while writing poems.’’

 

 

The collection offers profoundly serene poems that lead you on a trip from one home to the next. ‘Each poem in this book is a house, its hospitable doors open to the consolations of recall and remembrance,’ poet Ranjit Hoskote writes about the book. In addition, the book also includes poems that express humanistic values while stressing human difficulty and misfortune. It’s difficult to enter the poet’s mind, but one can easily sense his depth, suffering, and constant desire to gaze out of the window with a heavy but warm heart.

Sangramdeb Chakrabarti, born and raised in the city of joy, Kolkata, currently lives in New Barrackpur. He, aged 22, is an English Literature student who is obsessed with reading literature and creating stories in his mind. His love for literature dawned on him after he passed high school and since then he has devoted himself to the world of literature. The eminent and pioneer figures of literature started to haunt and inspire him. During the Corona pandemic, sitting idly in his home in the lockdown situation, he had enough time to look into his true self. Since childhood, he has often suffered from anxiety and worry due to excessive thinking. Ever since he diverted his thoughts to create stories in his mind, he found himself happy and at peace. One day he took out a piece of paper and started penning down his stories. And that’s how his journey into the field of literature began.

 

His novel In Search of Why, which won the ‘best male character’ award, was published by Ukiyoto when almost every publisher turned down his proposal due to its length. This story is based on a real-life experience as every author is driven to write by some real-life motivation, no story is absolute fiction. He was inspired by one of his intimate friends whose actual identity was kept hidden by him. It is this boy’s life that drove Sangram to change his whole life and never fails to inspire him. That boy’s life taught him the definition of life. 

 

The following story revolves around two bosom friends, Suryansh who belongs to a middle-class, well-educated family, while Aayansh is from a poor, underprivileged family. Both have their understanding of reality and dreams. They continuously push and motivate each other to pursue their dreams. This journey shows the struggle and conflicts of the two strata of our society. Aayansh’s story shows the daily life of a poor family and how they strive every day for a meal to eat. Despite all the pain and suffering, they never give up on life. They struggle from the day they are born until they lose their breath for the very basic needs of life easily available for others like Suryansh. Many times, they are forced to detach from each other’s life despite their strong friendship. But every time fate brings them closer time and again until destiny pushes them to their limits that would change their lives completely and fate would finally seal their destiny together for the rest of their life. The story shows how one of them will strive to fulfill his own and also his friend’s dreams, despite the absence of the latter. In the course of achieving their dreams, Suryansh, the narrator of the story, will lose everything that he holds dear. With every step closer to his dreams, a precious thing will be lost from his life. Fate will cease everything from him. Despite losing everything, he would never give up on what he has started. He has to finish the journey that he had started which he will but at a great cost.

 

With each passing chapter of their life, both of them will become mature and experienced. From childhood to old age to death, this story depicts their entire journey. Every chapter brings up a new story and a new moral of life. He hopes that every single chapter of this story will inspire all the readers to dream, live and look at life differently.

 

With many moral teachings, one will find that even in death a man can be successful; losing but winning at the same time. We shall perish but not our soul, not our work. What we will leave behind forever is our work towards humanity. What we do for people will never be forgotten. It will remain in the hearts of people for all eternity like a song, a melody. It’ll echo in eternity.

 

Sangramdeb believes that this story should be pitched for films/OTT as most of us have to sacrifice our dreams in the due course of life and can relate to the book. This story will bestow the readers with the courage to dream higher. This is the sole reason that makes it unique. Pankaj started his career as a central media in-charge of the Vikas Morcha Party. In this exclusive interview get an insight into the work he has done so far and the motive behind them:

 

1. What enticed you towards politics?

 

Since I was a teenager, politics was something that kept fascinating me. Therefore, when I got a little bit more mature, I joined ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad), the student wing of RSS along with that I was also completing my education in political science. It was their strong agendas like educational and university reforms that drew me towards them and while working with them I also got to learn a lot about the workings. After that, I got the opportunity to be the central media in-charge of the Vikas Morcha Party of Jharkhand. After that, I worked with Mr Babulal Marandi, the first Chief Minister of Jharkhand, as a digital media advisor. In the Vidhan Sabha elections, I also helped the BJP in Jharkhand and other M.L.A. candidates.

 

2. Your campaign ‘Yuva ko Jodo’ grabbed a lot of attention, can you tell us about it?

 

The world was hit by a deadly virus, Covid-19 and people were confined inside their homes. Everyone was feeling scarcity and could not even meet their basic necessities. That is when I decided to start the ‘Yuva ko Jodo’ campaign. We posted a link to various Whatsapp groups addressing people’s needs at that hour. Some groups had suppliers and buyers, others had doctors or food delivery options and much more. Like this, we had around 1084 groups. Other than that there was a large section of Jharkhand and other states’ Youth who were not able to get study materials like books or recorded lectures due to the prices. So for them, I requested book suppliers and training course companies to give material for free and in return, we ran their advertisements on my official Youtube channel. The ‘Yuva Ko Jodo’ campaign helped a lot of people in those two years of the severe pandemic and still it is there to assist those in need.

 

 3. What makes you so dedicated to all the philanthropic work that you do?

 

The only constant in the world is evolution, change, and transformation or else, things would remain undeveloped and unchanged. Politicians, bureaucrats, the media, or regular residents all contribute in a significant way to the long-term goals of developing a nation. Each of the sectors has experienced a change throughout time, which has allowed people to better grasp what is going on. However, sometimes there is a section of society that still is left behind and all I desire is to help them and lift them up. Youth is the future and it is important to properly nourish them, therefore, for them, I started the Sri Krishna Institute of Technology (approved by the Indian government) in 2016 to empower underprivileged youngsters. Along with I.T.I. courses, this school offers free special training to these people. This programme encourages them to develop their entrepreneurial skills in order to decrease people’s dependency on jobs.

 

4. Are there any new campaigns that you have in the pipeline?

 

Yes, there are a lot of new initiatives and campaigns coming up at the forefront. One of which is the ‘Yuva ko Pucho’ campaign that will be launched in the first week of November. The motive of this campaign is to bridge the gap between the politicians and the youth of Jharkhand. A lot of money goes into planning and successful inception of any campaign and many times due to communication gaps, people are unable to reap the benefits of them.  So with the ‘Yuva Ko Pucho’ initiative, we will help the youth let their voices be heard by the politicians so that every campaign they plan is in favour of the current requirements. This will also keep the spirit of our constitution alive.  The campaign will first begin in Jharkhand with a ‘pad yatra’ and after some time we will target other states too.

 

 5. Is there any campaign of yours that is going on currently?

 

There is a union by the name ‘Rashtriya Yuva Shakti’ whose entire focus is to help Army martyr’s families. We seek to ensure that every family of a martyr in Jharkhand receives a compensation payment of at least Rs 1 crore. This union has been working locally for the past eight years to find solutions to these families’ problems. Since our Jawans battle fearlessly for us, it is also our duty to protect the financial and social security of their families after their sacrifices. This is why I enjoy working in the field of martyr’s family happiness and the campaign is always active.

Ayushmann Khurrana, Rakul Preet Singh, and Shefali Shah starrer ‘DOCTOR G’ has been creating headlines and noise, for the right reasons since the launch of its trailer. Audience has lapped up the content that they have seen in the trailer and in response are looking forward to watching the film. This Ayushmann Khurrana starrer gives the feel of him being back to his genre of cinema which is now called the Ayushmann Khurrana genre amongst the audience. 

 

Post Pandemic there has been very low turnout at the box office with many big-ticket films failing to even get an opening or advance in theatres. Doctor G, which is a mid-sized film, getting this kind of advance bookings is a breath of fresh air and definitely encouraging in the industry. 

 

The advance booking was opened in limited screens at National Multiplexes which has only been a trend for big event films post the pandemic. Directed by Anubhuti Kashyap and Written by Sumit Saxena, Saurabh Bharat, Vishal Wagh and Anubhuti Kashyap Doctor G is set to release in theatres on 14th Oct. Junglee Pictures’ upcoming slate also includes ‘Woh Ladaki Hai Kahan?’, ‘Dosa King’, ‘Ulajh’ and ‘Click Shankar’ to name a few.
